Thrashed toes...

after long days hitting jumps in the park some my toes/toenails are black and blue and hurt a crapload. Does this happen to anyone else? Do you think it has to do with boot fit or the way i'm landing?

yah this happened to me last year

my boots didnt fit well so this year i bought boots that my toes just touch the end and i dont get it anymore

this started happening to me early this season and it blows. all i do is cut my toenails in the places it hurts the most to relieve the pressure and it works reeally well i still get a lil pain here and there but it does teh trick. also i wrap the toe the hurts with gauze and duct tape and that helps alot too. i hopin it stops cuz im goin to CO for a week in february and i might be fucked

it happens for one main reason- the boot doesn't fit. remember boots should always be snug but not painful tight, especially when new. even for riding park or strictly jibbing, they still need to be locked down on your feet. skateboarding, inline, wakeboarding, etc teach us that loose and comfy is better since range of foot motion key for those sports. in skiing, however, all your weight and energy needs to be transferred to the flex of the boot. if the boot feels way too small, take it to a real bootfitter (not dick's or sports authority) and they can usually grind or stretch the boot to squeeze out some extra room, but if the boots are too big, get new ones. doubling up on socks or jamming paper towels in the toe box wont help anything. your leg moves in the cuff, which slams your toe into the end when skiing. if the boots fit, feel snug, and it's still happening, make sure you buckle them in the correct order. your feet may just be buckled too far forward in the boot. do the top 2 buckles and strap first and make sure they are tight before moving on to the lower 2.

man it happened to me so badly one day that i took my boot off and there was blood ALL over my sock, i took it off and the toe nail had come up, it just fell off like a month later and a new one is growing in. but i got my boot punched out on that foot so it hopefuly never happens again cause it hurt like a bitch. my dad is bringing me my old boots when i come out here though, those ones are 28.5 lime 1080's and im in 27.5 SPK's right now... so basically when my toes are killing me from the SPK's ill just switch into the 1080's for a couple days.

ps for future reference ALWAYS buy your boots a size bigger than you normally would if you werent skiing park. my spk's are just 27.5 because they were given to me.

yeah its happened to me twice, first time i lost the toenail . it sucked. right now one of them is blue but dosent show signs off falling offage. its not too bad, it dosent hurt . it gives diversity to my normally bland feet

boots should always be snug, don't try to give yourself room because they will get bigger as the foam inside the boot packs. if you ever have doubts, go to a real bootfitter. if you are gonna drop 400 or 500 on new boots, might as well have the fit checked by a pro. 90% of ill-fitting boots i see come from people that try to fit themselves.

My friend has the exact same problem but yeh your boots are definitely to big or too small, or you gotta cut your toe nails

THis kinda has to do with this but in my boots my heel keeps scraping the back of my boot and no matter how tight i get them it still does it but other wise the boots are fine.

not snug man, you need space in the toes for when you come up short... in ski store they will say it fits if its right against the end, because when you bend your knee it creates space.. but when i get boots now i get them so my toes arent touching the end when i stand up straigt, because thats how you want to land... straight up arms down... steeeeze

definetly a possible scenario.

its happens with my right toe in my 26.5 foil because the heel pocket in salomon's is pretty loose and allows my foot to slip just a little and slam into the toe box if i land backseat or forget to buckle them down.

man for freestyle it really is. thats how my old boots fit and i never got toe bang, now with 'snug' boots i get that shit all the time

nooo not really, i actually fit boots for 2 years. and usually i give people who are just regular skiing the exact size with freestyle a little bigger, i find especially with salomon boots its good to go a little bigger, because of the big heel pocket, your foot tends to move around a lot, so when you fuckin case or overshoot your toes dont slam against the end super badly. but hey what do i know right?

different strokes for different folks, but i've never had to accompany room for landings. if your toes can move to the end when you are just standing up, the boot's waay too big. make sure you find the right brand that fits, too. you really dont need freestyle specific boots for park, so try new brands. not to shoot you down, argyle, but in my 5 years of bootfitting i've learned snug is money no matter what the application.

no it's really not.

wait till your foot starts moving around and bashing the end of the boot. a proper fitted boot with a footbed will not cause "toe bang"
