Thoughts on the SAT's

personaly, they suck dick and i hate them. dont see a purpose besides comparing yourself to peers and qualifying for some overated University College

No. Different schools have different grading standards which means that GPA can be pretty subjective sometimes

really fucking easy. you dont need to know much to get a very good score. use common sense.

btw a few of the top companies in the country require your SAT scores with your application...

idk they helped me a bunch. my GPA was meh and i killed the SATs so they were a huge help

All i know is that without SAT's I'd be screwed. only had a mediocre GPA but I got a 700 on math so I like the SAT's

imo im not sure if they cover enough basic knowledge tho. the sections and questions seem to repeat themselves. there could be a broader spectrum of subjects covered...

i thought i blew the act. but my score conversion from act to sat was pretty high.. not a fan of the act at all either..

"

Richard Atkinson says the test hurls kids into months of practicing word games and math riddles at the expense of studying chemistry or poetry."

Hahahahah, yeah right. Like they're going to study poetry instead. hahahahaha.

SATs show very little knowledge. I know people that know nothing about the world, and are the most uncultured people, and they get over 2000 on their SAT's just because they are good test takers. The ACT on the other hand is more about knowledge, because it tests what you have learned in high school. With the SAT all the problems are relatively easy, but most of them trick you into choosing the wrong answers.

I know people who get 4.0s and got 1200 on the SATs. SAT is more about what you learned compared to SATs. That's the point i was making

knowledge you gain in the classroom doesnt necessarily translate to doing well in a job...and colleges want to have succesful alumni who will give them money. SAT's are very good indicators of how succesful you will be because its always about how well you can work the system...identify the patterns, what works what doesnt and then play the odds. not. that. hard.

this- my gpa sucked in highschool because I didnt give a single shit- however my sats were bomb so I got into the schools that I wanted

I just got my LSAT scores back- 170 even mofos- now to decide if I even want to go to law school or not

i dont think it would be any harder minus a few retarded vocabulary and comprehension sections. that test is literally like 7 solid sections of reading comprehension and grammar...

the SAT's suck enough. honestly standardizing your knowledge to a test score is unfair, ya there great if you bombed high school and you get a good grade..

The SAT's are a joke of a test. Genuinely smart people do just as well as the kids who take three months of prep classes and memorize the book. Anyone can get a decent grade if they take a prep class at their parents expense.

I didn't give two fucks, took it, got a decent score, and got into a decent college.

The only thing that the SAT measures is common sense and your ability to take the SAT. The math is just common knowledge, same as the reading and writing. I personally think they're terrible measurements of "knowledge" but because they're standardized, it gives people a benchmark to compare with other students.

"Most of the questions on the SAT, except for the essay and the grid-in math responses, are multiple choice; all multiple-choice questions have five answer choices, one of which is correct."

Yeah man, show your knowledge! ...by choosing.

Anyway, I'm not dissing the whole thing as most of the math seems to be non-multiple choice and I suck at math, and I've done the GMAT myself which is quite similar I believe and it wasn't exactly a walk in the park.

at the upper end 1450 to 1600 they correlate with iq like you wouldnt believe. lower end correlates exremely well too.

SATs are completely different than GPA. And they are important. And they prove a solid purpose for placement.

what im picking up from this is that everyone that didnt give a shit in high school likes taking the SAT, because without it you would be in a shit storm..

So what you're saying is that any test that is multiple choice we should be able to pass it without trying because we can guess the answers

Not exactly, I just think that multiple choice inhibits real thought and actual knowledge. But yes. Theoretically it is possible, no? It's pretty obvious. You know how it feels.

"Shit shit... fuck me, 'to abhor' also means... fuck it, I don't know, I'll just try choose at random... Eenie meenie miny.... d) loathe. Whew, next one."

I do but I think you still have to know to get a respectable score. You can't just show up and pick at random

I do too, but hypotheticals is where I'm always at. Is there a difference between knowing and studying as people are asking here? That Time article stated that prepping for the SAT wouldn't affect scores dramatically.

sorry mike but im gonna listen to what albert einstein said.

"knowledge means nothing. Imagination is everything"

also like i said iq correlates with sat scores with around 99 9 percent certainty. so go ahead and shit on your low sat, but know that your shitting on your probable future wealth, possibility of being einstein etc.

kim peek, the savant who remembers every fact he reads forever, will never be able to understand high level mathematics or solve a geometric proof.

memorizing and throwing it back up on the page is the definition of all effort and no talent. in order to get a perfect score on the sat, you are not choosing jack fucg shit. you are finding the answer yourself and then filling in the bubble which matches your fucking answer

clear? im nt posting again so read this well and if you want to argue head to google

lol

You do understand that using imagination and intelligence combined with prior knowledge, the ability to convey things without being given answers to choose from is exactly what I'm suggesting as a better solution.

But hey, you go day trade your millions, keep it real.

broke my promise but this seems relevant because of the stupid score change.
