Thoughts on sunshine village

The runs are much to short

The intermidiate and begginer runs alway end up in a spot that you have to hike up

It's easy to end up in a spot where you dont want to be example...no where near a lift because the trails seem to lead you nowhere

This hill is more for begginer and intermidiate skiers....the one bowl looks good tho but i havent skied it yet

ok I dont set my standards too high because I live in the icy east but sunshine did have a lot of flaws, last time I was there a couple lifts were closed that resulted in my taking a 10 minute hike back up hill, I was pissed. But I do look the wide variety of runs and easy access to the backcountry (if all the snow hasnt blown away)

when i drive 3 hours and buy a lift ticket i plan to ski not hike...if i wanted to hike id stay in my town slap on some skins and ski the mountains here

best skiing ive ever had was in sunshine village and lake louise... on feet of fresj pow every night for a week straight

kicking horse and lake louise are pretty close to sunshine and they both have a better set up where the runs lead right down to the lift with minimal to no up hill if your heading into that area i recomend lake louise or kicking horse

I'm from Ontario. I went to Lake Louise and Sunshine last spring. Hiking was not an issue, and just about everything else was awesome.

if they inbounds is tracked, there is always the option of hiking a bowl over and still hooking back up with the lifts

i think lake louise has the best set up....a little bit of everything. I dig tithere

Sunshine is FILLED with tourists...and when I was there it was very icy, it could be decent with snow, but I just wasn't feeling the mountain overall...I'd rather ski Louise.

You guys obviously don't know your way around sunshine. I go there all the time, you just have to learn the ropes a bit. I NEVER have to hike at sunshine, if you guys are having problems with that, learn to ski faster. It also has some pretty damn good snow as well. If you want steeper, faster skiing, go to goats eye. I'm not going to tell you where, because then my stash will get ruined, but yea sunshine kicks ass.

You never have to hunt. It sounds to me you've been skiing to much angel. Get up on standish and jump off of something. Or go to Goat's eye and jump of something way bigger. If your idea of a good run is a big long groomer, than your definitely right about sunshine... other than that i think it's way better than louise (with the obvious exception of the park.).

The only area that i thought was worth skiing on sunshine is the big bowl.....the cliffs behind the inn looked sweet but im not experienced enough for that.....90% of the runs on sunshine are for rooks....and like i said earlyier they arnt very long...like on kicking horse the gondola goes from bottom to top and you can find so many good runs and get over to the bowls easily and no matter where you go you'll pretty much end up at the bottom by the lodge...also when skiing sunshine they have no good lips or anything to huck off of....cheers

I skiid sunshine last year and it was icy, but i actually like the mountain, but yea. a thing i didnt like was that you saw that run right thewre, but you coudnt figure out how to get ther from the top.

You can't compare the vert of Kicking Horse with Sunshine's. Kicking Horse has the biggest vert in North America and it puts Sunshine AND Louise, and even Whistler to shame.

Compareing Louise and Sunshine, The Shine has better snow 99% of the time. It is bigger and has much more terrain to ride. There is more back-country and less rocks to hit if you do go OB. Plus the Dive is pretty much one of a kind around here. Yes, sometimes I swear at the flats, but if you know where to go its usually not a problem.

Louise has a park, and a good one, but no pipe this year, and the park doesn't have good flow compared to Nakiska's. But it is miles ahead of Sunshine's. When it snows, the Ptarmigan glades are sick. But you just don't get the powder days that you do at Sunshine, and when it does snow at Louise, it snows 15 cm more at Sunshine.

Sunshine doesn't have hiking problems when all the lifts are open. If you really don't want to hike you just take the whole ski out and come up the gondola

goats eye baby, drop some of them rocks... deep pow, no lift lines, AMAZING view, crazy lines off the west boundaries... sunshine is canadas best kept secret... and i could carve that bowl all day

i had an AWESOME day at sunshine today. enough snow for a few cliffs already. but yes i would agree that sinshine has waaay too many flats, and often the good runs lead back down to the gondola instead of the chair. i hope louise gets some good snow soon!

Overall, Lake Louise has better terrain if you don't include the dive/wildwest/silver city. The backside of Louise is just amazing, brownshirt/north cornice, WH gullies, ER3/5/6/7, ptarmagin glades, it's so good. Sunshine has nice inbounds spots if you hike above goat's eye, nice little lines in standish and teepee town as well. Snow quality is usually way better at SSV until the spring when louise gets good on the backside.

LL doesn't have the same guy as head of parks (Jeff something?) so their park may suck this year. No idea why they don't have a pipe since they bought expensive pipe maintenance stuff recently.

Ummm while I agree, and most should, that Kicking Horse rocks it and does put other resorts to shame, and sometimes maybe even Whistler, it is not because of the Vert, because it does not, in fact, have a greater vertical than Whistler.

I skied Sunshine for the first time last Friday. I never had to hike, and the snow was awesome for early November. I must say I was impressed and want to go back when there are more lifts/runs open.

Yeah Sunshines not that bad if you know where to go. Goats eye is good when theres snow, and between standish and wawa theres lots of stuff to drop off. One complaint i do have with sunshine is there stupid side slopes. On a shitload of their runs your on a side slope, so one turn is nigger than the other.

dude sunshine is no secret. its a tourist trap with more fucken euros and japs then any other hill around. Its personal opinion and I would pick Louise all season long except for early and late. Sunshine rocks for late season dumps. garbage shoots just kills it.

Sunshine has far to many cloudy days and that hill is all high alpine. Its white out. alot of the time and its alwyas fucken windy. The BC is flat for the most part with some good places to build jumps. for alll around diversity, louise wins. good tree skiing, great chutes, longer runs, good snow, and a great park.

Whats your thoughts on whistler versus kicking horse on all aspect such as night life price wise vert snow ect....Ive skied kicking horse before but havent skied whistler

^ umm they are completely different. whistler is a mega resort with loads of tourists and a huge village. kicking horse is in golden. it is a tinnnny (forestry) town i think, and there is no nightlife, but it is sooooo sick. i went there a couple of years ago when there hadnt been snow in like 2 weeks and it was shitty conitions and it still blew me away. couldnt imagine that place with pow.

Whistler has girls and Golden (kicking horse) has none. As far as terrain. Kicking Horse is fucking insane. whistler is also insane, just more expensive, with 1000 times the people. I was lucky enough to hit 15+ good pow days at Kicking Horse last year and it is epic. no lift lines and untracked for ever. I skiied an entire bowl with no track in site on either side of me. it was just like heli skiing. if you get the chance go their. if there isnt good snow, you can always working on your shitty snow charging skills. alot of the shit there is like a pinball game. if you fall your just gonna be bouncing off shit all the way to the bottom. super steep and fucken gnarly.

^Oh my mistake, I though this thread was still on Sunshine. So uh, in response to your question : no sir, I did not, though I would have liked to have.

I'm quite happy that nobody here has even mentioned teepee town. and strawberry, thats what I ment strawberry. go there. I've had some good days at sunshine, but I've also had some of my worst. damn bitter wind. And arguably my best day was at the horse. basically yay for skiing!!!

Sunshine is awesome, you guys dont know where to ski trie the wawa headwall or delerium which are always filled with powder. Check out the jumps at standis or below the park leading into piccadily circus. Go to goats eye and ski wildside to eagle creek and launch the cliff on a powder day. Go to the new park it kicks ass!

fuck yea, horse is my home, i love sunshine and all but if you dont like flats than dont ski the intermed, or begginer runs because they suck anyways. go to the toboggan hill to do that you loser. sunshine is for delierium and the back door. jeeze

Well sunshine is sick skiing in my mind good runs(not for out of towners) but if all you can do is bitch then i think you should probably go to whistler

if you want to ski steeps and don't want to spend 200 bucks on a transeiver then go to kicking horse. sunshine is flatter than a 12 year old
