Thoughts on "Pop" Music.

There are almost two different definitions of pop music.
There is the 'pop' as in popular which is what you see on MTV/hear on the radio. This is the big record label bands. Because this doesn't say anything about the style of music it does change but it can't be considered a genre of music. That is why R&B, hip hop, rap, alternative rock etc call get grouped into this genre. I find it hard to respect many of these artists because they aren't writing their own music, lip synch at concerts and often lack real musical talent. That said, some of it is enjoyable in limited amounts. For example, I would never listen to Lady Gaga on my own but at a party or something it is fun to sing along/dance to.
The second definition is pop as a genre. This originally meant short songs, focusing on fairly simple melodies (often about love) that were easily accessible. You didn't need to have a huge appreciation for guitar playing or skill required of the musicians to enjoy them. That doesn't mean that progression and artistic expression has to be sacrificed. Baroque pop, chamber pop, synth pop, dream pop (which includes shoegazing) include many bands that experiment with different sounds and instruments and have undeniable talent. Just because my mom, with no musical knowledge, can listen to a song once and decide she likes it doesn't mean it's crappy.

If you are saying Justin fucking Bieber is talented I am telling you get some headphones and try to listen to his music. IF YOUR EARS BLEED AND YOU START CRYING HE ISN'T TALENTED.

While I am all for respecting music, whether it be mainstream pop or otherwise, someone tenaciously defending Justin Beiber using the phrase "giant black dildo" is just too much for me to handle...
 
this is what people need to understand. people need to take a history of mucis class before they argue about music otherwise it is just opinion based.
 
Just by saying Justin Bieber's so called music is actually music is so retarded I can't even describe it to you in words.
 
I did nothing of the sort. I used Ill Bill and JMT as an example, and that other list was what I was listening to this week.
Immortal Technique is one of my favorite artists though, dude is amazing. If you don't like him then....IDK, you must either not like hip hop or I just don't know what you are on. And that Wu Tang vs. Beatles thing is probably the best album I've heard this year.
My favorite artists are more like Bob Dylan, Mischief Brew, Contravene, Nas, Leftover Crack, Against Me! (everything up until Eternal Cowboy, they have gotten more and more generic over the last couple albums and I didn't even listen to the new one), The Specials, Bob Marley, Sublime, The Beatles, Reverend Horton Heat, Desmond Dekker, Wilson Pickett, Violent Femmes, NWA, Celph Titled, Streetlight Manifesto, Black Dahlia Murder, etc, etc I could go on forever
