no long stories, just a discussion between my roommate and me.. i think sterbenz is a douche and my roommate wants to give him dome...

what does ns think of sterbenz

sick man? i doubt that 99 percent of us have ever met him but he does own a sick company that does a lot for skiing an dmakes sick skis so watev

4frnt took CR after Salomon has dropped him and since Sterbenz owns 4frnt I guess it was his decision.

4frnt's probably the company with the best vibes out there...

wow evan, its funny u say hes a dick, seeing as how you have said two words to him, and met him once, if you actually new him you'd see that hes a super nice guy, and one of the most down to earth people ever

heard he's kind of hard to do business with but hey i've never met him so all i see is that he's done a great job in the freestyle market and i hope he can open up 4frnt to the general ski public with the new directional ski

i feel like he has made a huge sacrifice and like he doesnt get to ski much any more cause he has his company and its a nice one. poor guy may be making bank on his skis which is nice but he doesnt get to ski much. he helps other people ski which is cool tho.

he came to our local shop in town because he is the pnw rep. anyways i talked to him for a bit and he seems like a really chill guy. defiantly solid.

trust me i'm sure he's not doing it to get rich, which is not the case at all. He works his butt off all year to continue doing what he started, and it's definitely not easy in a market like ours dominated by huge companies. i don't want to sound negative but it's suprising they've stayed afloat and have gained so much attention as it is, which means they are headed in the right direction year after year; however i'm sure it hasn't been an easy ride or something that is "making bank."

so what, tanner makes his own movies with him as the featured skier. as long as he isn't deadweight i don't see what is wrong with that

thats exactly what i was trying to say. i suck at talking so i understand why you came at me like that. but yeah i was saying although he may be making bank it sucks he doesnt get to ski as much as he used to.

and to the person who criticized him for putting himself on the team as a rider. what is wrong with that he was a good skier well known for his skiing abilities so riding his own skis would get his business known.

well if he is,he runs a business, so he kinda has to be. I'm not gonna pass judgemnt though, cause all i know about him is he's a really good skier and runs 4frnt.

yeah and i also stink at conveying things.. what i was trying to say in that long ramble is he's not getting rich or making a lot of money. Companies like this are super lucky if they break even in the beginning years and not fall into a hole of dept, which is why most need huge investors backing them, something i'm pretty sure 4frnt doesn't/didn't have

^bingo. That picture still makes me sick in a wonderful wonderful way. Any of you who are old enough to recall know that back in the day before he got wrapped up in 4frnt Sturbenz was a very talented skier. That picture is proof that as of quite recently he could still pull a trick or two, regardless of the fact that he might not get as many days on skis now as he would ultimately like. That being said of his skiing, what he has done for other skiers (and the market on the whole) with 4frnt is hard to debate. One could easily argue that companies like Armada and Line and 4frnt have had a massive impact on skiing as a whole as they have forced older, more established companies to actually listen to the input of their riders product suggestions in order to remain competitive. As such, unless you have a concrete instance of him "being a dick" etc. that can't be directly equated to him looking out for 4frnt's interests in an incredibly cutthroat market you should probably just leave him alone.

my stl's broke in whistler last year after a week. i emailed about warranty and 4frnt told me to get fucked.

turned out nicely for you though

The fact that they arent able to give decent budget to a bunch of rippers on their team while they are sponsoring the owner of the company is weird for sure.

I'm pretty sure some people who wont participate in this thread would have soem opinions that would change some of you guyz ideas about sterbenz and 4frnt.

I think they are just not coherent sometimes as they do not act the same way with everyone. I heard horror stories about theyr warranty services from a couple friends of mine and I heard a bunch of decent warranty services from some dudes on the internet.

If you haven't met him, shaddup!

Matt's a cool guy, I know him, and his family. Have chilled with Matt and Joe, and even when shit got stressfull when their ship container full of skis was WEEKS late, he was still a pretty chill dude.

But, make up your own mind about him when and if you are lucky enough to meet him.

my msp's just shit the bed after maybe 15 hard days on them. I have just started the tedious process of getting them replaced and so far o good..... i have emailed 4frnt and got a nice response right away.... we will see how the rest goes but so far no problemo's in any way.... besides the skis shitting the bed, oh and them using tyrolia bindings now...

Matt Sterbenz is one of the best people the ski industry has to offer. There are very few more genuine people who can hold their head up in the ski world, as far as sticking to his word and delivering on promises. And yes, there will be times he comes short, nobody's perfect, but don't think for a SECOND he doesn't put that blame on himself and accepts responsibility, usually when it's not any fault of his own personally.

I still cannot think of any one who works as hands-on with his own company, as far as day-to-day operations, and still manages a pro career on top of it. The man runs himself RAGGED. And no, he is not getting wealthy beyond his dreams (not yet). He's doing it for a sport he wants to help change, and has done so already.

Do you really think the industry would look the same as it does today without the emergence of companies like 4frnt or Armada??? The big corps have taken notice and have driven more product development and money into their freeride programs than ever before. What was once a joke in certain circles in the upper echelon of ski companies is now a reality. Twin-tips, and more importantly YOUTH, are driving the market. Twin-tip sales are up 60-62% in units/dollars this season if you needed a stat.

He has his own pro model because he is one the owners of the company, just like the rest of the team. Steele, Niklas, Eric, Vinnie, are all owners. Remember? Rider-driven?And to doubt his ability is just ignorant and stupid. With the cut back in ski days he's had to make to accommodate 4frnt as a company, I'd say it's pretty amazing he still manages to learn new tricks and terrain, even at the ripe old age of.......I won't say it.

And to all you whiners complaining about how he was a "dick" to you....Grow up. No one can be "on it", ALL of the time. Maybe he was in a fight with his girlfriend, maybe a close friend passed away, maybe he just didn't feel like kissing your ass that day! I generally think most of these complaints are without warrant and just some retard who likes to hear himself type. The point is, we're all human.

Matt and everyone in that company work their ASS off to accommodate all of you. The fact that you scrutinize them so much cracks me up....

I've talked to Matt a few times and person and over some emails and he's always been super nice and loves to help people out. He really works his ass off making sure 4frnt runs they way it should. I know that he works so hard in the winter getting everything done that he barely has anytime to ski so he usually skis in the summer on the glaciers.

I saw him at the bowling alley last night. Man i thought I was bad at bowling......

But on the real, Ive heard only bad things about him

he's a little bitch.

look up "matt sterbenz is gay" in search. You'll find a thread that will BLOW YOUR MIND.

Sterbenz is actually a super nice guy... I am at Camp of Champs right now, and I have been here for a little while. When I first got here I couldn't read him at all, because he is super sarcastic and he has an undertone that kinda makes you feel inferior to him, this isn't his intention... I've gotten to know him a bit, and he is a super chill guy, he's done a lot for 4frnt, and he's sitting on top of the dopest summer ski camp right now... I think all you haters should give him a second chance...

and to everyone i talked to him several times last year at camp and i still thought he was a jerk. good skier, but i dunno, he wasn't nice at all.

i'll give him another chance next week but if he's still a dick then thats what im gonna go with.

steele spence on the other hand, that guy is one of the nicest people i've ever met.

I have to say that he's making a good job at COC bringing kids from all over the place. I think what he is doing here is great for the kids and for the sport.

Most of the kids here are uberly stoked to be here and I believe some of the props for that should go to Sterbenz himself.
