Thoughts on driving

I have to write a speech for tomorrow about rites of passage, and being 17 the only thing I could think of was driving. Could you guys be so kind and share some ideas as to how driving changes your life?

Example: You don't have to find rides anymore.

Driving contributes to obesity. It also adds a huge expense to your life. You'll see how much of an influence driving is on your life (if you don't bring a car) when you go to college. Driving is freedom though. It's always embodied freedom throughout American history.

uhhhh that is way to cliche. Childhood innocent experiences are wayyy better. Also maybe try sudden realizations about life or near death experiences.

I didn't ask them to write the speech for me, I asked for other suggestions to add to my own...

You're looking at it all wrong. It's not about learning to drive, it's about how driving changes your life, and helps you mature as a person. I'm not sure you understand the phrase rite of passage. I doubt anyone else is going to choose the same thing..

Since my last post sucked dick I'll expand it a bit. Being able to drive gives you the freedom to haul ass to the ski hill after school and catch a few runs before last char. The freedom to ask a girl out and pick her up on your time instead of having to meet up or god forbid have your mom pick you guys up. Being able to say I want to go there and nobody can tell you they are too busy or too tired to take you.

Ahhh I see exactly where you're coming from. I forgot to mention the class is very diverse, there's a lot of older people in it. I'm probably the youngest. I literally can't think of anything else, and my professor is pretty laid back so I'm gonna wing it and hope for the best.

Didn't read but fro the title it's fucking awesome. Especially when you have your own car you have so much freedom.

Take the chorus of this for example:
