im watching the sabres and panthers game and richard zednik's coronary artery was cut with a skate, there was blood everywhere. .........help him out

yea they said hes on the way to the hospital in stable condition. .....there was blood from beside the net all the way to the bench, it reminded me of clint

Poor Zednik... guy has the worst luck ever. Remember when Kyle McLaren fucked him up with that cheap shot forearm in the playoffs a few years back? Lame. He should be okay though.

+++++ vibes for zednik.

shit was so intense when it happened. i was happy that all the coaches and players werent even concerned about playing after, just that richard was ok. a true test of sportsmanship

and its crazy how this happened today and the ref got his face cut yesterday during flyers-rangers.

i pray something like that never happens to me when i play

I saw this go down Live. Holy fuck man, I can not sleep at all from this now. I was 16 rows up at the game right next to where it happened. At first I didn't really notice he got caught, then we saw him get up and the blood just pulsed out of his neck. He skated back over to the bench too and the blood kept pulsing out too. It wasn't like a normal cut there was a fucking pool of it from the red goal line to the center line. That was the most fucked up thing I have even seen in person. I thought for sure I saw a man die tonight. There were people fainting in the rows ahead of me and shit. The EMT's were helping some guy in the 2nd row i saw turn around and his face was white as a ghost. I felt like i was gonna puke when they were trying to clean up the blood. Best wishes for Zednik and his team, last I heard he was in stable condition with 300 stiches, but dam man he must have easily lost 2-3 pints of blood on the ice, just skating to the bench. Didn't even see when they had him on the stretcher with the trainers.

Gah... just watched it again. Hockey player's absolute WORST nightmare. A guy at work said right after that he'd rather lose an eye than go through that.

what's crazy is that he still was able to skate the bench and put pressure on the wound, probably saved him a lot of time. On tsn.ca there's a few comments of people sitting in the front row who saw it, crazy.

that is a serious injury, and i wish him all the luck in recovery, but this is why only professionally trained male-male figure skating teams should attempt the iron lotus.

that is so messed. looks like hockey players are gonna need to start using neck guards. i read somewhere that the surgeon that operated said that one of his arteries just hung over his neck like a loose thread.

i've played in leauges and tournaments that required them (neck guards), but i doubt nearly anyone will do it on the nhl level unless they are forced to. they don't even wear face masks on their helmets, and there were players who didnt wear helmets into the 90's.

that was nuts, they kept playing it on Tsn this morning, They said they were leaving out the more gory footage because it migth disturb people. That was a lot of blood though, and he skated over to the bench like that

hope he gets better than was rediculous thats like a butcher knife straight to the neck damm thats gotta hurt

malarchuk would have died if he was on the other end of the ice, luckily the paramedics were at his end of the ice. it took 300 stitches to close his wound and they said zedniks was more severe. paramedics are soo good nowadays

settle down, dude... it was a "joke". ever heard of that?

that's some crazy shit, fsho. since he's ok, though, let me be the first to say that he's a BAMF. seriously, think of what the chances are that you survive an injury like that. now, what are the chances that one-in-a-million moment is live on international TV? if i were him, once i was ok, i'd claim the shit outta that.

apparently he lost 2 liters of blood and he wont be able to do any normal activity for another few months

5 units of blood (the amount Zednik lost) is enough to kill you. Luckily he's a professional athlete so he's got an amazing cardio-vascular system.
