Those that work at Stowe...

The med park on the main face is sooooo fun but I agree that is is also sooooo short.  The Spruce park has barely anything on it and its STEEP. I just wish there was a long flowy park on an actual trail like killi or something.  The feature are sick I just wish there was more of a line.  Everything is next to echother so its always a decision.  5 hits max per run.  Stuff is set up really professionally but I deff feel like there is so much more potential

I guess the park crew isnt on payroll?? At least not for their time spent building.  I saw some park crew jackets and asked one on Tuesday if they were gonna change the park soon and he said "its all a matter of motivation" I said I'll slip you a $20 to change things and he said sounds good to me.  I was kidding and so was he but it doesnt change the fact that the situation sucks and the park is boring

it seems like stowe just decided to half ass it after all. I wish places would realize that building a retarded sketchy park is a bigger waste of time and resources then just not building one at all.

where's stoweparks, he seemed quick to keep us up to date right up untill the real park was supposed to open. what gives.

Thanks for everyones opinion, it is unfourtuate that your expetations have not been meet. I too had much higher hopes for the product on Spruce, belive me, it was never my or anyones intention to build a "sketchy" park. Most of the opinions that you expressed are things I have said even before we built anything, yes the pitch is wicked steep twice that of the N Slope park which, you know makes for a very difficult design/build on that terrain. It also takes much more time and requires the winch cat because the Park cat can not work let alone just climb up the landings or go down with out sliding. Another factor that you never thought about is Tyro was only 8 acres, Main st is 30 acres, so our resopnsibility has increased 3 times, park or not still takes added time to groom the extra terrain. I have asked for more resourses (that would be another cat and operator) but a $250,000 cat request needs to pass through the front office, I don't think I need to tell you how that goes over, at least for this season.

I can tell you what happens here every day for park maintenance, Park cerw starts the day opening the parks and moves on to hand work, that is when the Vol staff show up, for as many guys say they want to work, few actually follow through (hint, hint) my day starts at noon, hit the parks help the guys detail and make a list of features to work on. Trails close at 4pm, Patrol sweeps untill 5 ish and the clock starts 15 hours and counting, I'll cut the pipe takes 5 hrs, Sm Park takes 2-3 hrs that will get me to midnight and 2nd shift goes to work on N Slope Park 5-6 hrs and Main St we have about 2-3 hrs to groom, 1 cat 2 shifts, yes we are pushing the cat vs. park terrain ratio. I personally put in about 12 -14 hrs a day and 70-80 hrs a week, so no one is slacking just walking a fine line and yes this job is my life, if you don't enjoy the park, I don't sleep well, i'm serious! So go ahead and cut this message or me down, I know that me and the crew are doing everything we can with what we have.

thanks for the response.

i know it's hard to get the resources to keep these things up and running, and my complaints weren't really at the park crew cus I know you guys tend to get the shaft when it comes to money and cat time. North slope has been pretty sweet this year, my only real complaint is there isn't a flat rail for learning shit.

but yeah I dunno what is to be done about this main street business. you guys are clearly just not given the proper resources to build or maintain that trail, so it seems like it would be a better idea to just make a park on a less ambitious trail that has more then like 5 features. I'd always thought that just having all of north slope as a park would be sick ( fat chance of that happening, I know). Also i'm sure it would save alot of cat hours to only have to groom one trail top to bottom rather then the ordeal you described.

it sucks that main street is only getting half assed, cus with a good park ( and I mean good) stowe would straight up be the best in the east. Tyro had it's faults but at least it gave you 4 jumps, some rails and then two more jumps and some rails on north slope. Personally I was hoping that moving the park to spruce showed a little foresight and support for the park on the part of stowe, but now it just seems like a way of trying to stick us off in a corner of the mountain where we'll go unnoticed.

basicly, dont take any of this shit too personally, we all know you guys dont have unlimited resources to set this shit up but it is real dissapointing that stowe wont step up and support you guys cus it seems like you want to do it right.

yeah north slope park was soooo fun. the only thing i would say to improve it is a flat rail like someone above me said. so props to the park crew with that. but if you ever get the resources definitely get a few more parks up

yea I know snow is an issue but could we please get a flat rail on north slope?  That would make my day and it wouldnt take that much snow

Yes, I can do a flat rail. We have struck a deal with a vendor to build such a feature. It could show up in the next week or 2. Out of curiosity, what should get removed to allow for the flat rail?

Here's my thoughts, as you already figured out, there are 3 lines to N Slope, sm on the right med in middle and lg on left, but it's a med park over all. I think if we are to remove something it should be from the middle or left, the sm stuff should stay reasonable for thoes learning, but the rest can be switched up/out for the flat rail.
