this years movies: editing

after seeing strike three and happy days last year. then seeing forward and session 1242 this year i must say i was dissapointed in the editing. there wasn't any innovation in the way the films were put together. of course the tricks were bigger and more stylish, the lines were burlier and the rails more technical but that was about it. the only thing that really stands out in my mind was seth morrisons segment in session 1242 when they circled around him in the air and filmed which was pretty sick. everything else was just repetitive. especially forward which was the same 'rail, rail, jump, rail, qp, rail' type of film that strike three was. what do you guys think?

I think there were some sweet shots in RFA. I like when they go over the jump with the guy and slide the rail with the guy. I also love when They do that sick follow cam of Abma next to him when he is trying a switch rodeo, that is the sickest shot. I like how there were more close-up shots. Close-up and following are the two important factors, and that abma shot really did it for me.

Well what more can you expect in terms of film making and editing,this is SKI PORN. We buy tapes to look at SICK BURLY TRICKS done over and over again. I have not seen Strike Three,not many have outside North America.. But the editing in Forward is SICK.

What the hell o you want? Rail,qp,jump,lifestyle,lifestyle,lifestyle.. Just wondering what WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENTLY THAN Berman,Decesare and the matchstick guys?

more close up shots instead of thing 10000 feet away so you see a little speck. I love it when you can like see the skis details and shit. and follllllow cams.

yeah most of the shots were sick as hell. but its still trick after trick after trick sometimes so it gets a little repetitive, thats all im sayin.

couldnt agree more. editing and cinematography makes a film. 85% is dependant on the look and feel of the video. the other 15% is the riders. because lets face it, progression is slow but you can always be innovative in the way you put a video together.

Beat it like it owes you money.
 
Well I dont mind the fact that its jump after jump, but it would be cooler if they had more variety in the WAY that they filmed the jumps, follow cams and closeups and shots from up on a wire and stuff, that stuff always hits me as sweet because its so different. The shot of JF in 1242 doing his PERFECT unnatural cork 5 while really closeup is soooooo sick, I want to see more of that. The music in 1242 is soooo sick. I cant help but love every song except one, we are the youth gone wild, I just dont think it suits the segment, Jon either needs something lighter or something with a better beat in my opinion. I loved Boyds song, Jps song especially, Poiriers song, of course shook ones, and kristis and everyones all just so good. I was so impressed with the music damn, although dissapointed by Jons.

85% percent is edditing ... wow go hang out with spielberg if all ya want is editing... these are ski movies they show skiing thats the whole point people dont buy ski movies cause they want 15% skiing you need to get out on the hill more

and by the way all those shots of morrison that you loved in 1240 were from two years ago...

I loved the Editing in Forward and RFA. There are a lot of subtle, but amazing things thrown in their. It doesn't distract for the skiing, it only adds to it. I believe over editing is possible and can detract from the movie. Watch the movies again, and see.

yeh exactly^^, the more you watch a movie, the more yo unotice how perfect the editing really is

especially in poorboyz movies, every clip matches what is going on in the song

exact science is so good you can tell the edting is the best out of any movie ever the first time you watch it, after shpwing it to some of my snowboarder friends they went out and ordered it the day after.....

yur all wrong.. the best movie out there is the guatemalan persuader (mercon industries)... so so good... oh, and the editing in 24/7 is nasty i think, as well as forward... i dont remember RFA much cause i saw it a longg time ago, but i think that was sick too... theyre all fuckin good.. what i am saying.. goodbye

Well,Tanner's own edit of his part is fucking amazing,why not put that in.. Dave Crichton,Liam Downey,Pete Olenick,the list goes on,watch Forward,it's perfectly edited. I'm not dissing 1242 at all,it just wasn't for me that much. Both movies are the sickest I've ever seen.

1242's editing was perfect, in my opinion. great flow, nice transitions, awesome graphics, and the black and white to color fades in peps segment were done well and added to the overall mood it. and by the way, the type of shots in the movie have nothing to do with editing.

 
But once again,perfect is defined by a person,not a group. If that makes sense.

noj1080, I DIDN'T say it was 85% editing. I said it was 85% look and feel of the film. that includes editing, music, cinematography, film quality, the way the shots are set up, the locations, interviews, length, wether it gets you pumped or not. Thats what I ment. think about it. how do you pick a fav movie? do you compare them trick for trick? no. you judge the overall movie by the feel. thats my point...

i watched both movies a few more times and i do notice there are some improvements. just nothing that really blows me away as far as editing, not the tricks people are doing becaus they are getting out of hand, just the editing.

a lot more people have seen 1242 over exact science, so you shouldn't be surprised that it isn't brought up more. sounds like it's worth checking out though.

 
I need to add, Speshul has yet to be seen.

Yes, I made a post about this like a couple weeks ago, Exact Science is fucking amazing, the edititng is fucking crazy, I love watching that video. 1242 is edited real well too, Anthony's segment and Tanner's, and Philou's they are all edited soo good.

Now on the other hand I thought the editing in Forward was a bit lacking, I actually like Strike 3 quite a bit more than Forward, and I thought RFA's editing was pretty freaking weak in a few places, Peter Olenick segment. After watching RobotFood edit the same song it was just funny, not even comparable. Pollard has one of the best segments in RFA, but Donny Ellis has the same song in Reflection (Alterna Action) and it just kills Pollards part.

 
no original editing? i think belanger's segment in RFA with the flash transitions was pretty original, not to mention very impressive if you know the talent that it takes to make somethin like that look that smooth and work together

 
It is that good, i would rather own exact science then any other movie this season, especially 1242, i stil own them both but when i want to show people skiing, get pumped up to go rididng or jsut watch something entertaing and interesting i would deffinatly stick in Exact science over any other movie....... Exact science is at the top of my list for sure, its simply amazing......

Ya forsure 1242 is sicker, has more impressive riding but Exact Science is way more fun to watch. I could watch Belanger and Mickael segments all day, Larose segment is crazy good too.

 
yea man it jsut flows so good togeather, like 1242 has been sitting on my desk for like a week collecting dust and exact science is looping on my computer, the music is jsut so good to listen to,
