This weekend.Whistler....

Hey guys im coming from seattle this weekend to ski sat, sun and part of monday.

When I go to whistler I usually go with my dad and he doesnt ski park with me.

It would be nice if i could ski with someone!

And Ive heard rumors about Whistler this year. That its sucked? Im not sure what its exactly about so if someone can briefly describe what been going on there, that would be sweet.

whistler this year:

bad start to the year with little snowfall and drastic changes in temps which have left the snowpack in a terrible state. avi danger is redic at the moment, lots of slides, one took out a grooming cat a few days ago (fell like 200ft) and 2 lives have been lost on inbounds terrain (that was closed). lots of sketchy exposure at the start of the season but its getting better. temps are still fluctuating alot and there is a good chance that the high alpine on whistler mountain wont open at all this season. in recent weeks slabs of over 1.5 metres have been falling (in backcountry). Good snowfall in the past few weeks have made for some pretty epic pow days on blackcomb though, three of my buddys have been caught in tree wells already though (dont ski through trees alone, one of those 3 nearly died becuase of that).

The parks on both mountains are coming together nicely. Blackcomb park has a good variety of boxes and rails and the are a few small jumps and spines aswell. XL Park has 2 decent sized step downs (maybe 3 now) and a pretty big step over. Whistler park has mad flow and has some sick features also and a few small jumps.

dont know what the weather is meant to be like by the weekend but for the next few days we are going to have high temps with freezing level reaching 3000m (peak is at 2200m).

the high alpine on whistler is closed, and the last time i checked blackcomb's was open, but the avalanche danger is REAALY HIGH. not to mention its gonna warm up a lot, so its not even worth trying to ski. the parks on the other hand, are pretty damn good. blackcomb has a shitload of boxes, rails, and jibs, with a couple hips, a medium sized 3 set of tables,and some big jumps in the XL park (including a huge but floaty stepover). whistler doesnt have as many features, and only a couple pinner jumps, but the jibs are fuckin sick, and there are some really nice boxes/rails. theres these new things which are like 12 foot tall spools of thread, one on its side and one standing up. so yeah, get ready to ski park/cruisers.
 
Glacier Express and both Blackcomb T-Bars were closed today, and I heard they would be closed until the temperatures colds down a little bit... pretty sure the warm temp makes things even sketchier (heavy, wet snow on the deep buried weak layer)

Sweet thanks guys! IM excited to ski park since I havent gotten as many days in the park yet..

It would be sick if I could find someone to ride with too.... Im sick of skiing alone when I go on trips with my dad.! Ill keep up, promise hah

high pressure ridge is breaking down on monday, another super ridge of high pressure is forming over alaska/Yukon this weekend which will push the colder arctic air south (Again-- like what happened in December), so the south coast is supposed to go back into deep freeze mode by mid-next week
 
when this warm front is through.. hopfully our base problems will be fixed.. if that fucking cold front rolls in again im leaving whistler and im not kidding. its better start DUMPING snow after this warm august temps
 
wow um never mind, i'll probably be wearing a t-shirt instead of my jacket because its supposed to be like 10 degrees haha....i cant believe how unbelievably shitty this season is.

yeah seriously...id rather take a few runs with huge lines than sit at home doing nothing

catskinner is never really busy anyways
 
ahhhh being under-aged and not having connections sucks. once again...

asked around for probably 30 mins to find some bud, and found nothing,

but one guy who tried to rip us off....

any tips for a next possible trip?
