This website makes me sick, moderate it properly

albatross.

So some kid puts a bunch of work into his little movie teaser and posts it up on newschoolers where he can immediatley get his movie out, and the moderaters delete that shit right away.

Then another kid watches some random guy do a truckdriver and hates it, posts it up and everyone goes off for 5 pages and we leave it be.

Dont give me that newschoolers is not an advertising vehicle bullshit, its better a vehicle for kids to get thier names out than one where hate for every aspect of the sport festers over the off season.

yeah, isn't this supposed to be a community website?

isn't part of community respecting those who work their ass off to make something we all can enjoy? not just allowing them to post a link on a single page, to not be discussed?

I think the admins need to reevaluate their stance on this, and at least allow it so that amateur filmmakers have a slight opportunity to reach people, rather than assume they can do it on their lonesome... this issue really bothers me...

NS does have a teaser page where anybody can submit their trailer. As far as hyping shit in the forums, I think it's cool that people want to get their name and their work out there. However, if we don't try to keep tabs on it, we'd just have every company, big or little, posting their press releases in the forums and not paying for advertising. Not paying for advertising means no money to keep NS running, which means no NS--not to mention that the forums would be full of commercial bullshit. And I'd rather have forums filled with normal bullshit than commercial bullshit.

At any rate, I know that most of the mods let threads fly where someone wants to distribute their teaser for everyones enjoyment. However, if a teaser thread is like, "yo yo yo, here's my website, go buy my movie for 29.95, oh and by the way here's the teaser," its going to get canned.

Ah, Tom. Calm yourself my paizan. Don't get uppity!

I don't think I could ever bring myself to delete a Jibopoly thread... if that's what you're talking about.

I can't stop crying.

Actually....here's a question....I pay you guys some advertising fee.....can I plug my own sites and make threads on my movies in the forums only...no banners, no sidebar logos...just me spreading my shit word-of-mouth style via NS and it's forums? Hypothetically...of course.

that's the problem. kids putting together a teaser and coming up with a clever moniker to be known by are not regarded as a company, they're just kids. go easy on them.

if i had my way, we'd be able to post up and openly discuss teasers of all shapes and sizes, pro and otherwise, as we have been able to in years past. having a separate teaser page is a terrific idea, but why eliminate similar content in the forums , where the masses go to discuss them?, why that aspect of ski gabber has been taken away from me and the rest of the kids that participate in such discussions is beyond me.

as well, the advertizing argument that is used can then be applied to all sorts of other discussions. if a link is posted to, say, a new oakley product, and then kids go on and on in the thread about it, how is there a difference? tell me.

Man, sounds like you need to get laid or something

But honestly, if it makes you sick, go puke, wont hurt us at all.

I can't speak for them, but my guess is, for the right price, you can do whatever the fuck you want on here.

If you care to check it, message a mod. Most of them will tell you they actually have a really hard to job to do. Its amazing how much shit gets deleted before most people see it. Give those guys a break, they already do eneough for NS without having to deal with shit like this.

hey thanks for formulating a response that i wanted to make, but more coherently than i would be able to. word.

I should have said, "within the law", since obviously they can't let you do shit that would bring the law man down on them. But I mean, come on, you really think they'd turn you down if you said "I'll give you 50 grand if every post I make on here can be obscene, offensive, and borderline pornographic, while advertising my 3 personal crocheting businesses"? I doubt it.

I agree with everything you've said here. Kids putting together a teaser and coming up with a clever moniker to be known by are the shit, and their threads don't get deleted as long as they're not trying to use NS as a hype machine.

And the main difference in the example that you put forth, about someone making a thread about an Oakley product, is that (hopefully) the person making the thread is not an Oakley employee or affliated with Oakley in any way. Then you've got someone starting a subjective discussion about a product, not hyping their own product.

Basically, all of this stuff falls into a huge gray area in moderation that many of our mods, like JibRemix, prefer to see in black and white. For my own part, if it's not pissing me or anyone else off, I don't delete it.

Then will you kindly forward this message on to Mr Jibremix: stop being such a turbo and powertripping with that little delete thread button that you are so lucky to have at your disposal. This is a skiing website full of kids, and whether you agree with me or not Jibremix, they deserve the benefit of the doubt in situations where they put in countless hours and money out of their own pockets towards a project which you then dismiss as against the policy of newschoolers. 100% whack behavior.

I don't think you can go straight at JibRemix for as Kamikaze said....seeing in black and white. He's making decisions that are cut and dry and are basically based on technicalities.

Hahaha, why, because he deleted the Jiboply trailer?

I say talk and such on trailers is okay, even little press releases....just not front-page style article press releases they should pay 60 bucks for.

well the thing is, i've seen threads about teasers, for discussion purposes with a link provided, deleted even though it wasn't made by the person who created it. yet, a thread with the teaser for show and prove (which i've seen 3 or 4 of, maybe they all got deleted except one, i'm not sure) is still kicking around.

i'm just in agreement with lanks here.

^he's right. go get laid man. at one point in our lives the website does make us sick. but once you get laid it's fine. it's normal....

Wow, just wow. Your ignorance is beyond anything I have ever known. I think its time you pull your head of your ass and smell the internet.

There is way more shit on this site then any of us ever know. By the fact that its hard to tell the mods are there we can tell that they are all doing a great job. I think it would be kinda fun to have all mods just stop doing anything for a month or so. Just have em go on strike for a while and see what happens to NS. That would help some people realize that they really are important and that they actually do something.

Several good viewpoints and counterpoints. I don't come here often during the season for what it is worth however, I do come here in the "off season" specifically to see who what and where things are heading for next season.

Not sure if that makes sense, but amatuer films and teasers are a big part of this whole scene in the off season. I think they should be up front for discussion, not necessarily blatant promotion for selling. There is a fine line. I think it is the difference of:

What do you think of my teaser?

VS

This kind of comment is getting at the root of the problem. Yes, members are putting countless hours and dollars into films they make- great for them and the sport. Should they simply be allowed to use NS as their free advertising space? No one has yet to convice me of that. If people are going to try to sell their movies and treat their project like a real 'production' company, they should have marketing plans and even *gasp* budgets for such things. Do people really make a movie, replicate it, and then simply assume that the marketing side of the business is free because NS exists?

In this case there are companies/projects/individuals from the entire spectrum (one person films all the way up to MSP style stuff), so our goal was to attempt to create a space that everyone could use, FREE, to hype their films. And it may not be the prettiest thing in the world but there are over 30 trailers listed and hopefully more people will take advantage of the oppourtunity to submit their stuff.

With regards to some of the other comments, like 'if i pay cko $50,000 can I say anything I want'?. That would be a no. Yes it may come to a shock but we have turned down advertisers in the past. One of the biggest problems of late was charging companies for press releases - originally done to give smaller companies a place to hype their stuff at a minimal cost. We've now stopped doing that in favour of a press release section that can display more articles, and not interfere with the real news. We'll be using that with our own judgement to hype up things we're stoked on and believe you guys are interested in.

One last thing is that I don't usually have a problem with hype threads as long as the people simply take 30 seconds to PM or e-mail me about what they want to do and what options are available. Treated like that in a professional and responsible manner, we usually make sure to get something done. So if you want to hype your shit, asking is a good first step. Hopefully that's not too difficult a concept for those trying to start their own companies.

Yea what they do for the site is awesome. Especially the new mods to the site, really great. But I mean like deleting threads and etc... Really, I have NEVER seen anything done like that.

Not hating on mods just saying

This is what baffles me... why people don't understand this. It's always been a thing on this site that kids take and don't ask, then when you get smacked down and someone "censors" you, you get all indignant and whine about it. If more people were generally decent and amicable, opened a dialogue, they might find that lo and behold those in charge of the big giant website aren't a bunch of cold robotic beings demanding x number of dollars for x advertising service, they're fairly normal people. Often they'll be willing to look the other way if you ask nicely, and if they aren't willing to do so, hey, it's their website, so have a little respect for what they DO give you for free. And as for the stuff that's NOT free? I happen to know they aren't about to gouge you. You can't afford to pay as much as Whistler Blackcomb or PBP? Well, talk it over and work something out. Bottom line? Kids looking to start a film company, clothing, skis, whatthefuckever, your attention please: If you really want (for some reason utterly beyond my comprehension, but whatever, different strokes) to be "industry", grow the fuck up for a minute and act with some degree of professionalism... Or at the very least like a normal human being.

Simple... this year there is about 20x more small digital production companies kicking around.

If we let it all go in the forums, ski gabber would turn into trailer gabber.
