This needs to stop.

Older, educated people in that category, probably. People in political or public positions, definitely.

But I've just heard never someone from a minority group complain about things generally being "too PC". And I hear that a lot! It just strikes me as amusing that the one group of people that basically never has to take any shit (in some cases sure, but not on a comparable scale imo) thinks that 'harmless' racial/whatever slurs are being taken too seriously. I'm well off, white, straight, but I really have to assume that I don't know what it's like to be casually put down constantly, even if the person dishing it out thinks its harmless or funny.

As for minorities being treated differently in society, it's basically just a case of majority being in a position of power. In our democratic political system, but also when it comes to culture, economics, or personal interaction. I don't really have time to go super in depth, but basically people stick together with people they identify with. Also, the dominant culture will constantly absorb elements from the alternative, especially if they're radical (eg music, punk, rap, now is just another commercial sound), making it hard for minority groups to retain a sense of identity. Which is more important then it sounds- and I think that may explain why some people get quite intense (eg annoying?) about their self expression.

This. Ridiculously in your face gay people annoy me just as much as they do some straight people.

Gay isn't a set character trait.

still, im not sure your understanding where these offensive terms come from. its not the white middle to upper class. sure we use them, and in most cases those terms dont relate to who we are. but they are still coming from the poor black, mexican, redneck areas. go walk through a poor black neighborhood in any big city and see how many offensive terms you hear and how many are yelled at you. i visit my friend in denver all the time, and the area he is in almost all mexicans, spending a day around that part of town you hear way more offensive shit half being aimed at you, than any white middle to upper class area. and its usually not said in a casualy just joking around way. its usually in a way thats meant to threaten or atleast let you know they dont like you. yeah i dont like it, but i dont let it get to me, and i honestly think my opinion would be the same if i actually lived there.

are you trying to be sarcastic? or just admitting that you did stereotype trying to talk about how gay people shouldn't broadcast their gayness?

you need to learn definitions before you throw out words like illegal. This is a problem with all self-deprecants (whether it be black white green blue fat skinny gay straight jewish nerd goth whatever) you overemphasize whatever is eeking you to make it seem like poeple who dont care about your problems are threatening you. this is not a "with us or against us" problem. its not like you will be arrested for a felony or even misdemeanor if you attempt to marry your partner. it just isnt recognized....demanding recognition is annoying. just go about your life like everyone else and you will be rewarded. no one is stopping you from spending your life with whomever you please.

Do sorta agree, Im a christian and against gay marriage, but i dont care at all what you do in your own house. As long as it doesnt effect other people. If to gay guys put on rings and say they married will any one say no your not. nope. so do what you want, but dont let me see or her about it.

Its not necessarily about recognition, but about the rights that come with it, such as the title of "marriage" and all the other benefits associated with the title. Any country that doesn't have marriage is simply not acknowledging gays as equal to everyone else, and that (indirectly) encourages discrimination.

Marriage is also well out of the hands of religion at this point. Canada gives same sex couples the right to marry based on interpretation of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, not like... What some bishop says. And no country in the world will leave same sex marriage to the church, because they (probably) won't allow it. In most situations it will be a supreme court ruling, which will then translate into new interpretation of the country's constitution, or new legislation.

Marriage is simply a name for a partnership but its the rights that come with the name that make gays unequal, you know what I mean? Gay people have been around forever, but at this point in time we don't get treated equally.

In the US married couples have their incomes taxed based on their cumulative income. So two people in lower tax brackets could have to pay a higher percentage of their income to taxes because their cumulative income places them in a higher tax bracket. If anything, gays should be lucky they cant marry.

Also, it's not inherently discriminatory to deny gays the ability to marry. If you define marriage as the union between a man and a woman, a homosexual relationship doesn't qualify for marriage. Honestly, it's all about what the definition of marriage is. For many people, marriage is formed to ensure protection of offspring. Since homosexual couples cannot produce offspring, there is no reason for them to marry.
