Almost 17,000 people died in alcohol-related crashes in

2005. That figure represents 39 percent of all traffic fatalities. In the U.S.,

between 250,000 and 300,000 people are seriously injured each year in

alcohol-related crashes. To continue with this strong message here are some

other disturbing facts:

  • In 2005, of the 16,885 people who died in alcohol-related

crashes, 14,539 (86%) were killed in crashes where at least one driver or

nonoccupant has a BAC of .08% or more.
  • Nationwide, 75 percent of all the people killed between

the hours of midnight and three in the morning were killed in alcohol-related

crashes, according to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) Web-Based

    Encyclopedia 2005 Report.
  • More than one-third (34 percent) of all pedestrians 16

years of age or older killed in traffic crashes in 2005 were intoxicated.
  • In 2005, 21% of the children 0 to 14 years old were

killed in motor vehicle crashes were killed in alcohol-related

    crashes.

(Statistics presented were

found in The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's report titled,

Traffic Safety Facts 2005: A Compilation of Motor Vehicle Crash Data from the

Fatality Analysis Reporting System and the General Estimates System.)

If it were up to me (and once I take over the earth, it will be), anyone caught drinking and driving would be unable to drive for 6 months. Triple it each subsequent time until your fourth offence, when it's permanent. Anyone caught with a BAL over .15 would have their license taken away for 10 years. Fuck drunk drivers.

In colorado for the first time they take your DL for three months ,have to do 24 hours of thearopy and 42 hours of education, wait its the other way around. Then if your B.A.C. is over .175 you have to have that device that you blow in that is in your car in order to drive.

word, I think parents should be allowed to let their kid have a beer or glass of wine at dinner even if they are under 21. not that big of a deal

4 is too many.

1st offence, 6 months, big ass fine.

2nd offence, 1 year, bigger fine.

3 strikes your out. Turn in your licence.

yea i just dont drink and drive, i tried driving wasted in my friends giant field out in the stix with a field car and i could just tell that driving on an actual road would be a terrible idea

i drink and drive all the time i live in indiana where no one os around the cops kinda care but not really you just pay a fine and you are let go for the most part

^ I wish I could smack you upside the head. Just because you live in a quiet area, something terrible wouldn't happen? I mean come on.

We'll see what you say when you hit a tree and die. Or maybe you kill a mother and her baby. Don't drink and drive just because you live in the middle of nowhere, one time you'll fuck up and someone is going to die or be seriously injured

my bro got a fencepost in his forehead, 65 stitches and had to get reconstructive surgery... soo yes, its not good to drink and drive

why drink and drive? it's pure stupid, i don't understand why people even think about it, never mind actually doing it.

in soviet russia im pretty sure if you got caught driving drunk you were banned from driving period.

I think if your liscense were suspenned for 5 or 10 years if you drove intoxicated no one would risk it.

It's people like you that are proud of it and share the experience that need to be punished the most. Your not cool because you don't follow the rules.

I agree. Actually, I think what they do in scandanavia, or what they used to do was in the winter, if you were caught drunk driving, they would take the car and your shoes and make you walk home. They should do that here. I have friends of mine that try to drive drunk every once in a while. fucking pisses me off. I dont let them drive though.

it would be way cooler to make all cars - bumper cars! and pad the edge of the roads so cars would be contained. in this way we would exponentially increase the fun of motoring (even in rush hour traffic) and make the state of the driver a non-factor!
