I hate to break it to you guys, but if someone asks for cool street skiing vids and you suggest that JP segment, you are a certified old head.

No hate to the legacy of JP or that segment, it's one of the best of all time. But it came out 10 years ago. Like if some young gun asked me about street skiing videos, I wouldn't suggest that they go watch High Five (2004), even though it has crazy fucked up rails and banger street segments. Kids want to see new shit and that JP segment certainly isn't new

Don't mind me I just came here to give karma for the correct apostrophe usage in the thread title

Don't mind me. I just came here to comment how cringy the possessive use of "you guys'" is in a sentence. Speak this out loud and listen how fucking trashy it sounds.

I hear what you’re saying but for those of us that came up in that era the eras of skiing that were prior to just endless jaded Instagram clips there was a lot that went down that was really great that a lot of kids don’t even know about today.

Yeah, y'all sound stoopid.

Don’t you hate the feeling when you see a thread and you think “wow this is my opportunity to make the mean internet cool guys like me” and then you get here and realize anything you post is gone get 2 downvotes and be forgotten.

back to not taking out my overflowing garbage, cutting the itchy tags off my vintage sweaters, and clogging my neighbors toilet because he has sex too much and it makes me feel sad and lonely

yeah I get it dude, I started watching ski vids in 2002 so I've seen a lot of shit come and go. I go on and on about how sick pre 2005 MSP movies are, and people listen, sometimes they don't. That's fine though. IMO it's kind of wack and gatekeep-y when other older guys DEMAND that young guns "respect the OGs" or whatever. A lot of the time for a sport to progress, there needs to be some rejection of the older stuff.

Also, I think ski videos now are actually the best they've been in a while. The amount of hardcore street shit coming out is crazy, like there are so many different crews getting after it, making cool DIY vibe shit. I'm also loving the current wave of amateur-ish BC content. And Zootspace was probably the best movie in 5 years, if not longer than that.

I hate to break it to you guys but that JP urban part is the worst urban segment ever. If you suggest this, you're not an "old head", you're just a fucking gaper. Sherpa Cinemas is fucking shameful.

people don't appreciate the time it takes to produce cinematic level content as much today. You see this in everything that can be recorded and released on instagram, skiing, cars, biking etc. Its not necessarily a bad thing, like look at how much awesome free content you can get today compared to 10 years ago. Hell 15 years ago most people only had access to shitty 480p cameras and if you weren't spend a bunch of money you couldn't get high quality footage.

Now everyone has access to a phone that can shoot in 1080p or higher and you can edit your footage right from your phone. Things have changed, probably for the better, but we have definitely experienced a loss in the appreciation of the annual ski movie

I can get on board with hating on sherpas, "into the mind" is still the worst ski movie I've ever seen. But the JP seg is legendary

I was trying to make my point without taking away from what people are doing today, because you’re completely right in a lot of ways shit is going off and people are doing a lot of really cool stuff. I just meant it in the sense of like- imagine becoming a rapper in LA and someone asks you what you think about Dr Dre and you just give them a blank stare. I mean honestly I don’t ski enough or participate in the scene enough to gatekeep but if the topic comes up I’ll be honest about it.
