This is why we can't have nice things.

No this is the problem, we shouldn't have to worry about putting signs up for something so utterly retarded. People should not be able to sue for things like this, which would avoid having to put up such a moronic sign.

I don't need a fucking sign telling me that I can't see the stairs in the dark, and there doesn't need to be a sign saying that the fire and its surroundings are hot. Besides, do you think an 11 month old would stop to read the sign? It's the parents fault for not watching their kid.

"fused to the glass" So he obviously held his hand there for some nice long seconds. Where was the dad during all this? Thats the real question

They should really have a sign cuz how are we gonna know that fire=hot.

But seriously, people are so damn greedy it makes me sick.

I think the parents failed to realize that their son just learned a valuable life lesson at the ripe age of 11 months. I bet he never puts his hand near another fireplace again....well that is until he's a young boy in the woods with his friends and a zippo. What are his parents going do then, sue the trees for not having a warning that they're flammable?

Exactly. We don't need signage plastered over everything that is overtly common sense.

Regardless of whether or not the parents win the suit, Jay Peak, and likely every other hotel, timeshare, resort or even just a business with a fireplace, loses.

Even if Jay Peak wins the case, they still had to pay for their resources in fighting the litigation. If they lose, insurance will pay out a large claim and that will drive up insurance rates, which will undoubtedly be passed on to the consumers.

Not to mention that win or lose now every property will want to have signage made that indicates that the glass is hot to shield themselves from anyone else trying to file suit. While it is just a sign, it is undoubtedly an added expense which will end up being passed on to the customers again.

At what point does this trickle down to homes and what is going to keep a neighbor from sueing you because you didn't have a sign in your house saying that the glass on the fireplace was hot?

It sucks that 11-month old little Jimmy had to have his hand disfigured, but the last thing we need is more signage (that won't be read anyways) in this world. We need people to stop looking to pass the buck while looking for a huge cash payout every time THEY fuck up and just admit mea culpa and deal with the consequences of their actions.

The kid should he very happy. He is now the superhero known as Shard! In a fit of rage after the glass fused with his hands he smashed the glass on the counter top. The glass then melted into his bloodstream and how he has glass running through his body. At any time he can shoot glass out of his hands! He controls the forms, it can either be shards of glass, a piercing rod, or a glass case to trap the villains.

real talk. Fucking bad parenting if you let your one year old kid that close to a smoldering hot fireplace....fucking idiots

Needing a sign on a fire place is like needing a sign on a car that says "WARNING: THIS MAY KILL YOU" inside it.

i'm opening up a lawsuit against the solar system for giving me a sunburn yesterday. fucking greedy multi-planetary corporations need to pay!

hahaha i love the thread title. but cuz this countries fucking retarded jay peak will probably loose a couple million. didnt someone robbing someones house fall through a skylight or something and sued the homeowner and won?
