http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/vancouver/blog/fourth_place_medal/post/Unsuitable-mdash-Japanese-snowboarder-busted-f?urn=oly,219311Basically this Japanese snowboarder, Kazuhiro Kokubo, wore his suit with his tie loose, pants sagged, and his shirt untucked in, and he also has dreds and this article is completely criticizing him saying what he did was obnoxious and disrespectful to his country. Then most of the comments are even worse, saying things like Japan should send him home and he should be given all zero's for his runs. He also said that the olympics was 'just another snowboarding event' thats 'not a big deal'.

First of all, I want to say that this guy is awesome and he embodies everything people need to be. He clearly doesn't give a SHIT what other people think about him and would rather do what makes him happy. He doesn't want to wear the suit properly because its uncomfortable and stupid as hell. I think he has the completely right mentality that the olympics is just another event. This is how a true athlete feels. Theres no reason to make a big deal out of a single competition, rather every event should be seen as the same.

Pretty much I think this guys awesome cause he does what he wants and everyone else has their heads in their ass as they try to bitch about what he does.

no, that is disrespectful. he is on the world's stage representing his nation and not himself, he should try to show respect to the people that support him even if he doesn't think it's that important. And being gangster isn't always that cool, especially off the slopes.

agreed. There is a time and a place for everything. He's representing his country in a way that they don't want to be represented. Show a little respect.

give the olympics half pipe snowboarders a break... they can't smoke weed for awhile because they get tested and they just need to relax

like people said in the comments of the video, there is probably an alternate begging to compete and support his country. if this guy thinks the olympics are just any other event then he should have given the spot to someone who has been waiting their entire life for this moment.

Why does it matter how this guy wears his clothes?

He's doing his own thing and he should be respected for that. He did nothing disrespectful to his country.

And he's also the best athlete out there. The best athlete should be the one who competes. Too bad if an alternate didn't make it who would wear his suit 'properly', the alternate isn't the best snowboarder.

And why should he treat the Olympics different than any other competition? He should be trying his best for EVERY competition he enters. So what if its the Olympics...having the mindset that its just another snowboard comp is the perfect attitude for success.

sagging your pants, not tucking your shirt in, and wearing a loose tie is not acceptable, especially in this regard. You never see a CEO do it, you never see a new 21 year old intern trying to get a job do it, why would it be acceptable for him to do it? his own "style"? And if you say its because he is the best, maybe you should notice that every other athlete there is the best in the world too, it's the Olympics, and I am sure that other athletes there have their own style they want to wear, but they know they are there for their country who they are representing, and they have good enough judgement to respect this.

The kid is clearly an immature jackass (anyone with any class would know better than to do that), but he's a kid. People have to cut him a little slack. Kick him out? Give me a break. The worst you should get for what he did is people shaking their heads in embarassment for you.

Couldn't have said it better. He's just being a "rebel" lol, besides thats what snowboardings all about ...right? ha..

What's the big deal? He's there to compete in snowboarding... not to play dressup. And I think that's his mentality.... I don't see why so much attention should be paid to how he wears the suit, he's not there to do your taxes... he's there to snowboard.

Nothing personal.

But why does it matter how low his pants were? It sort of brings me back to phelps blazing but people seem to flip a shit over anything there days. The world is fucked.

Well phelps became a role model for millions of kids. Blazing is not what parents want their kids to be doing too.

shit, if you're good enough to represent an entire country at your sport, you can wear your clothes how ever you want. but if i didnt live in the U.S, i'd be careful about what i wore, cuz some countries would beat your ass if you did something like that, im assuming japan is one of those....

The ONLY reason he is there is for his halfpipe snowboarding skills. That is all he is, and that is all he needs to be, as far as the Olympics should be concerned. He is not there for the way he dresses or anything professional. The Olympics are so dumb.

it is disrespectful, he is representing his country and he looks like a slob wearing clothes like that worn improperly. how hard is it to wear clothes properly for a few hours of the day? I am all for wearing sagged casual clothes, ski gear, or anything that isnt considered formal or some sort of uniform, but the olympics isnt just "another competition" it is the biggest competition in the world, show some respect.
i disagree about him being kicked out of the olympics or anything of the sort, he just has to show some respect and dress properly for a few hours of the day.

playing hockey you wear a jacket and tie to your games. and thats not even at a high competitive level. you dress to represent your team. if you have trouble understanding that then you're as self-centered as i think you are.

this is the olympics we're talking about. people train for this for 4 years and your less than 1 minute performance is the sum total of all those years of training.

he looks blackanese. but seriously it wont kill you to dress well once in a wile so just do it to show some respect

why does he have to represent his country, sure the medal counts towards his countries total, but other than that he is riding for himself. he earned his spot on the team, and i'm sorry, but mandatory uniforms are so middle school. let him do his own thing, and fuck the haters. G til i D I E

(insert facepalm picture here) This is the olympics, not the X-games, the olympics are a very big deal and are not just another constest. Just another contest doesn't happen once every four years. Incase you are not aware, in the olympics a person competes for their country, not themselves. He's there not just as a snowboarder but as an ambasedor of his country which in this case being Japan has a lot of national pride and generally are not very loose with their standards of presentation.Besides that though Im excited to see this guy throw down. His run at the X-Games was sick.

Who honostly looks at one individual at the olympics and judges the entire country on them? Lets get real, it doesnt matter how we was dressed.

it looks like skiers are acting like their gay, pro conformity selves again...

the old ns would have supported this guy for being an individual, you guys are fags.

being individual is one thing, dressing like a slob is another thing completely. the olympics is one of, if not the most formal and largest competition in the world. he is there representing his country, dressing sloppily is a poor representation of his country.
being individual would be wearing something else, not wearing your formal attire like a slob

Maybe he doesn't care. You all shouldn't either. It's perfectly OK for him to have a different perspective on the Olympics.

i agree.

i think the article sums it up nicely

"The anti-authority stance permeates snowboarding, but there are certain times when you have to play nice. One of those times is the Olympics. Your country is paying for you to represent them. You get the chance of a lifetime to do something hardly anyone else gets to do. And it's all free. Pretty sweet deal. So just go with the flow."

quoted. wear a suit like a suit, not like ghetto rags. i like kazu as much as the next guy who pays attention to snowboarding, but seriously, he is representing his country to THE WORLD. they dont give a fuck about snowboarding and skiings "gangster" image. you just look like a dirtbag.

Because its a fucking uniform that the whole team was told to wear to represent their country. If it was just him wearing his clothes that he normally wears and he was sagging his pants and wearing his shirt untucked then this wouldn't be a problem. For example you don't see baseball players step up to the plate with their helmet turned sideways and their pants at their knees. You have to have some respect for your team and your country. Its not always cool to try to be a rebel and be all individual and shit sometimes you just have to be classy and respect authority.

ITT a bunch of uptight, conservative, conformists.

kazu kokubo rips. he has so much more steeze than sean white. i hope he wins gold and shuts these people up.

All those people need to chill out. Just because he's not uptight about everything doesnt mean he doesnt want to preform well.

-that jump in that vid was fucking huge

you all need to stop being stupid and understand that the olympics are a pretty big deal. especially to the flipping ski association of japan each athlete is representing his entire nation. he' may be "cool for 'obviously' not caring what anyone thinks of him" when really he is apart of something much bigger. It is justifiable that standards in personal conduct be set, even as far as a dress code.
