I have broken...

3 pairs of apple in-ears (The ones that come with your iPod)

1 pair of skullcandy lowriders

2 pairs of skullcandy ink'd in-ears

2 pairs of random phillips in-ears

What I mean by "broken" is that the jack gets stripped or the music just randomly stops working in one ear.

Can someone recommend me some good head/ear/whateverfloatsyourboat phones? I really don't care what brand or type. In ear, on ear, around ear, whatever. All I care about is that they will LAST.

Preferably under $30, might go over if I hear good things.

Thanks guys. +K for good answers.

icon's have never failed me, not the best quality sound but ive had mine for 2 years of skiing, and use everywhere and theyr fine.

go to future shop and look for a pair on sale thats not skullcandy. compare the specs on the back with the more expensive pair and see if its worth the buy (usually is). i got this no name brand for 10 bucks and its lasted me 3 times longer then my skullcandy in ears, and they have a better fit and pretty good sound quality

get skullcandies because that kinda stuff is covered under warranty and you can get a new pair if it breaks

apple makes some of the worst earphones i have ever seen. they always break in some way or another.

skullcandy is usually good until the break, which doesnt take long. icons are understandable because they are pretty cheap plastic and can only be put together so well. i have had some inkd earphones for a while and im pretty surprised i havent had a problem with them.

if listening to music is a big thing for you, invest in a pair of headphones that will last. they may be expensive but in the long run the amount of money you spend on buying cheap headphones will add up. i myself have a pair of beats and they are the best headphones i have ever had. never had a problem with them and they bump. i dont regret spending the $180 on them at all. there are obviously others out there though. just go to best buy or something and try some out and see what you like the best.

if your only spending $30 on them then they will break easily, if you want them to last then you need to pay for the real quality ones, or and i'm not saying that you are rough on them but just make sure your careful, like you don't sit on them or rip the jack out at an angle or by the wire.

stay away from standard headphones (the ones that get delivered with your phone/ipod/mp3and stay away from skullcandy.

look into some sennheisers or jvc, they also make some sports-specific headphones (i think in coop with adidas, they are said to be sturdier and (splash)waterproof....
also, the problems you're having sound to be from rough handling, make sure you never pull on your cables, or at least try to mind it, these audio cables are only a millimeter thick and the actual copper wire inside is even thinner, so they rip easily... always remove your jack by pulling on the plug and not on the cable ...
also coiling it up or kinking the cable is really bad, try to avoid it ....

Sennheiser CX range are the best cheap earbuds out there. CX300 was the old standard model and the 400 were pretty much the same thing. I think the new versions have different number though. Buy them on Amazon or a similar established shop, there's lots of fakes out there (eg. eBay).

JVC are straight walmart poopy brand. Everyone says skullcandy is crap but I have had my icon 1's for 2 years and they still have not had sound problems. I have also had some sony's that are around 1 year with no problems. If you want to dish out some bank, get some bose. Other than that I dont know other brands.

Kozz porta pros. I got mine for like $30, absolutely amazing sound quality. Definitely the best quality headphones for $30, the sound is comparable to headphones double the price.
