I think it's very possible that other organisms have language and communications just the same as we do, however can you immagine how impossible it would be for us to start to comprehend the experiances of some other creature that has emensly different perceptions of the world in order for us to make any sense of what they might be communicating?

whales, elephants, dolphins, could in my mind have a means of communicating in some sort of "language"

Nature is a concept with a vaste amount of human history attached to it. I don't actually buy into human evolution, but if i did, human beings became separate from nature when they saw that there is an "it" versus an "us".

Culture, which is also an extremely difficult concept to define, serves as the counter balance to nature; that which human beings have created as outside of the natural realm, that changes and alters nature itself. Human beings have within their philosophy and their pursuit of knowledge for the sake of it opted out of simply being instinctual products of nature.

The sheer fact that we can ARGUE whether or not we are merely a part of Nature IMPLIES that we understand an "us" versus "it" vis a vis nature. You can't argue with me that we are mere instinctual animals because the argument never would have come up if we were. We would simply live, and learn, but not understand that we are learning, or change what we want to learn, or go beyond what we know for the sake of intellectual pursuit.

To Yauch: look into something called "Philosophy", then get back to me that we haven't gone beyond mere existence in nature. By the way, you're proving my point by arguing with me that we are outside of nature's confines, because you assume that a logical argument somehow means more to me than simply letting me live my instinctual life.

I think it comes down to sentience. You really cannot say that any other species on this planet can cognitively understand the meaning of 'I'. Sure, you can get animals to learn words, even make grammatically correct phrases, but in all those cases, theres something huge missing. Theres definitely a large gulf between a human and an ape, something fundamental that sent our species shooting off in a distinct and intelligent direction.

Why can't i argue with you that we are instinctual animals at the core? It does not follow that every thought you have is a product of instinct, but at the core, when you take away our large brain complexes we are still animals. If you watch different groups of monkeys, and start to compair them i think it is fair to say that primates are sexual animals, driven by sex to do the things we do. (i suppose sex is always the driving factor under the "theory of evolution" but atleast with us the development of the female orgasm plays a key role in whatever concept you've derrived as us above nature.)

I think the human female orgasm facilitates social relations in one or more ways, including preventing conflicts and aiding reconciliation after conflicts, regulating tension, solidifying same sex and different sex alliances, and expressing social status. These are the functions that sexual pleasure seems in general to serve in everyone’s favorite super-sexy-love-primate, the bonobo (see Huhmann and Fruth 2000) all this we have culture we have intelect is all a byproduct of sex, especialy when it's not a purely male dominant state

And not all monkeys and apes are sexual beings, mostly just the bonobos, for they have been shown to be really the only other creature beside the dolphin who use sex as a social outlet, a source of pleasure, and a stress reliever. Its crazy cuz everything else just uses sex to reproduce. The bonobos put that pussy on a pedestal though. They also have homosexual relationships (penis fencing) but i wont get into that.

Bonobos may be special in that they put on the barry white before getting down, but to say that other primates arn't sexual is misleading... isn't the male baboon coming in being dominant over another male and "raping" "his females" a social process of sexuality?

gahh, i took a primatology class last semester and learned all about this but i forgot in over christmas break. I do remember the bonobos being the only ones to use sex for stress relief and kinship bonding.
