I know it's a Burton add, but it reminded me about skiing's popularity contest and how mainstream it's gonna be in a few years.

True, but think about the posers. Same thing happened to skating, snowboarding. Even Razer Scooters wer big at one point.

I'm just saying, it's bound to happen. And with the growth of newschool and park riding, it's gonna happen soon.
 
I doubt skiing will ever get as mainstream as snowboarding. And I like it the way it is, if I see someone with twins on the hill, chances are they are atleast decent (isnt always the case, Ive seen old men snowplowing with seth pistols.) But far more kids take up snowboarding to be "radical". Which is fine by me,skiing is about one thing having fun. And if it becomes more popular great, if not skiing has a small core group to fall back on.
 
people that switch to snowboarding and then stay with it because they have the same mutual love of snowboarding that we do for skiing; i respect. like my brother.
 
yep. Even when skiing goes mainstream, it'll still be those of us who have always loved skiing because it's fun who will be throwing down the hardest on the mountain. I say "bring on the posers!"
 
well said. we will always be here, people will be added in and then some will be on the outside still, because they are just doing it to do it, for the image.
 
another funny thing about this ad other then saying skiing is gaining in popularity is the fact that they stole the chairlift idea from the old Atomic ads where they said We see it too. Which intself Burton could have used.
 
I've been skiing for 15 years, loving every day I ski, why would I quit if it wasn't cool. However, the people who start skiing to 'be cool' will be the ones responsible for all the money in the industry, so bring them on!
 
Dude.. Those adds had a totally different vibe to em. It was an illusion that chairlifts were there, hanging from telephone pole wires.

It's to show that they are always thinking about skiing.

Really has nothing to do with the "staying power" that Burton is throwing in this add.

The other one is a traffic jam, and off in the distance it turns into moguls.

dude i ski because its fun and something im good at.. a lot people i talk to dont even think its that cool... well that was kinda a lie, only a few people say that, but still i do it because i like to, not cause other people like me doing it. its like skateboarding,,, back in the day kids skated because it was fun, now a lot of kids do it to get a girlfriend. i would never be like that with skiing.
 
nice ad. I've been at it for 22 years now...i watched every single one of my ski buddies turn to snowboarding in 96, then endured 4 years of 'why do you still ski?' before skiing became 'cool' again.
 
well not all people turn away from something because it's not "cool" anymore. look at skiboarding. it brought many new skiers into the park and introduced a whole new way of getting down the mountain. then twin-tips came out, and almost everyone switched over to them. people didn't do it because skiboarding wasn't cool anymore (well it isn't..) people switched over because it's newer technology and a new form of an old sport. i don't know what im trying to accomplish here but i guess what im saying is that you can blame people for trying new things and not sticking with something for a long time. i snowboarded for my first 4 years, and then leanred how much more fun skiing is.
 
But how do you know? Skiing is growing so much, and so fast. Especially newschool. A lot of my friends that have been boarding their whole life have switched to skiing recently.

and with half pipe working it's way into the Olympics? I'm saying it will end up like snowboarding.

I'm not saying any of you are posers, i'm not saying that you're gonna stop when it's not cool anymore.

But it's going to get to the point that skiing is the cooler thing to do, and everyone is gonna want to do it.
 
to all of you that are woundering whats going to happen when skiing go's main stream, i hate to break it to you, but it allreay is main stream, at the ski shop i work at we sell more twins than almost all other skis, our order for the 07 season i huge to keep up with the demand. I dont thboarding will ever die to make room for skiing, but a lot of new skiers will be coming to be cool, and im ok with that, cause that means more money for the idustry
 
you can already see this happening. i was just on snowboard.com the other day, and i was suprised by the amount of people that respect skiing, and see it as much cooler than snowboarding. many of them were talking about switiching over because their friends did or whatnot. i don't know if it's solely because skiing is the "cool" thing to do, but i think kids are just interested to try new things. it's kinda like cereal. after a few month of having the same thing for breakfast ever day, i get bored of it and wanna try something new.
 
yep, its all about the love for the sport.. who cares if you have mad steeze or you look like a freakin gaper... well actually i'd laugh a bit if you look like one but who cares?! just ski!
