That guy was a great speaker, conveyed his points real well. Honestly, I don't even know why people even care, there is no way gay marriage being legal is going to affect you personal in anyway. You religious freaks who bring up the argument that marriage should be between "man and a woman," then just allow homosexual couples a way to get all the rights as a normal married couple and then it's a win win situation.

 
Everything. I believe patriotism is standing up for the values of your country and defending it at whatever cost. In recent times, especially in politics and the media, patriotism has been used in conjunction with war and the military, and although that definitely is a part of it it's been skewed out of context.

Patriotism is not joining the military to go fight a war, patriotism is enlisting in the military because you hold a certain set of values that you share with your country and your fellow citizens, and upholding those values in battle should it have to come to that.

But in turn, you don't have to go fight a war to be a patriot. To defend the freedom of others, uphold the rights of citizens under the American constitution, and ensure that your country continues to prosper under the values that they were founded upon, that's patriotism.

What this guy is doing has absolutely everything to do with it.
 
my stance on the issue is not partial to either side, but i view this as such an amazing speech, he had such a good stance and spoke with such confidence and passion for the subject

The fact is, after so many times iterating a respectful stance and not getting respect in return, I've lost all respect for those religious or otherwise motivated people who seek to deny me my rights and don't even come up with a good enough arguments supporting their beliefs to justify their viewpoints. I'm glad we have another fresher member on here who hasn't met with so much opposition that he still has respect for the opposition, because I certainly don't. They have no good argument, and they are bigoted, selfish pricks.
 
I personally don't support gay marriage, but I don't really care as long as they're not getting married in churches, which a great deal of them wouldn't want to anyways

I understand where you're coming from, but you're not getting anywhere when you come across as aggressive as they do. I mean yea, I've had my fair share of ignorance and attacks, but in the end I feel more satisfaction refuting it with a logical, well placed argument than a slur of insults.

Obviously I can't speak for the amount of disrespect you've experienced and I'm in no way trying to relate to that because honestly I can't. But at the same time I feel like if you kept your cool and maintained a respectful tone regardless of what others may say your message will get through a lot stronger and the people who matter will notice.

I know you've gone through a lot Arabian, but I can't help but notice the change in your attitude over the last little while. You were one of the first members on NS to give Gay people a voice and I have tremendous respect for that, but with that comes a responsibility to uphold and maintain that status. You have an opportunity to voice your side of things, and regardless of all the jokes and the bullshit people post on here, I do believe that your message does get through to the real people behind the mask. Even if they don't know it now, it'll plant that seed that will grow over time until they realize your perspective eventually and be able to shed the stereotypes and the stigmas. It's a long process changing people's minds, but it's gotta start somewhere and you might as well be a part of it.

If they have any conscience, any intelligence at all they will remember what you say. And if they don't, well they don't really matter then do they.

There is a simple human right that should be appreciated by any

rational person: You should be able to do whatever you want, unless it

very much entitled to that opinion, and free to tell anyone who cares

to listen, as so long as it is not abusive, then they are not hurting

anyone.

This also applies to gay couples, if they choose to marry,

then why should they not? There is no harm to others, there is quite

simply no argument to make.

The problem with the prevailing conservative attitude in

the United States is that if you don't like something, you should be

able to stop it from happening, even if it is none of your business.

Whether 1% of people feel gay marriage should not be permitted, or 99%,

Some mechanics are engineers. Scientists know what they are looking for though. Engineers don't, that's the point I was trying to make. But nah, I've never been to an engineering party or whatever so I can't deny that they think they can drink the most or are the coolest and whatnot.
