This guy is a True and Proud American. A rarity these days.

why?

He see's the recognition of gay marriage as a strike against his religion. The United States honors people's right to religion, regardless of whether we agree with it. I disagree with islam, but that does not discredit the opinion of a muslim.

of course most engineers are smart, that goes without saying. however most engineers don't have the best public speaking skills

I'd say we are on par with most other majors. Maybe it's just my program, but I had a class each semester where we did a group project and had to present to the class our ideas. It's much harder to pull the wool over an audiences eyes with some sort of political speaking speech than it is with a product imo.

i really don't understand why this is still an argument. this was a great speech though and i feel like its something everybody should watch

I am not sure if your comment was serious or not. But, if it was I have a question. Do people that get divorced slander your religion as well? Isn't divorce not part of a holy union?

Naw, anyone can rock numbers with some training. Engineers are good at finding a problem and then solving it. Unfortunately we are a bit too good at the finding a problem part for most people.

Math does dictate the world though. Only a liberal art's student would be dumb enough to thing otherwise.

that's not the problem at all. and if you think the world we live in is dictated by math, reason, logic, you're crazy

besides, you guys categorically suck balls at writing and anything to do with communication

Thanks Cpt. Obvious, we get it that gay couples with kids breed kids no different than straight couples. Too bad everyone else is fucking up so hard they can't see that either, DESPITE clear scientific evidence supporting homo-families.
He is eloquent tho. And cute. :3

rubber soul, math does dictate the world, there is a reason the people who get paid the most on this planet, investment bankers, ceos, etc, are all very good at math.

no one said math isnt super important. but engineers like to believe that's all there is to the world and life and it's a really nearsighted, dumb notion

Thats what I was most amazed at, no offense to you engineers/engineering students out there. Someone get this kid a job- he's intelligent, a great public speaker (tough to do at 19), and an engineer

I wonder if the US will have a gay president or a female president first?

As far as gay marriage goes, I'm all for it. I can't come up with a single valid argument against it. If two people really want to commit their lives to each other, for better or for worse, let em go for it and good luck to them.

And Zach Wahls is awesome.

The engineering profession is changing. Give it 10 years and it will develop into something very different. We can solve problems in the most logical fashion, and are able to take in large amounts of information to adapt to all types of problems. I live in Buffalo Ny, and we have a constant debate over our urban infrastructure (which is terrible). In my design class we designed a logical rejuvenating solution to our city's problem in a month that would put some state officials to shame that were working on the same problem. IMO I can take on almost all business problem and have no problem kicking any business students ass.
Case in Point, University at Buffalo has one of the better MBA programs in the country. Why do you think that you have around a 3.5 to get into the program if you are a business major and I know a couple engineer's that got in with a 2.6.

this is what I hat about engineers. they are cocky fucks who think they're better than everyone at anything. even stuff they know shit all about "oh, let me do that for you. I'm in engineering, so I'm obviously better at it then you". fact being, engineers are absolutely NO better at problem solving than any other major (except some arts ones), just no other people go around spouting their mouths about how they think they are the best. You think you could determine the genotype of a plant in a more logical way than a biology major? no, you couldn't. you think you could find the the composition of an unknown chemical better than a chem major? no you couldn't. my car is making a squealing sound, you think you could figure out it's the timing belt slipping faster than a mechanic? no you fucking can't. engineers are absolutely no better then the rest of us, the only thing you're for sure better at is getting all retarded when you drink. oh, and it's been proven, you CAN'T out drink anyone else. you're just too brick headed to realize when you've had enough then start barfing all over the place.

bottom line

"I'm an engineer, so I could do it better then you"

fuck you, you can't. go tell me what the best way to tie a noose is, show me how best to use it.

i mad

1.) not sure why this makes him a "liberal"

2.) there's a great american myth about valuing equality, and when it shows through like that, it tends to shock people back into remembering it. granted, even a cursory glance at american history would show how true the myth is, but it's there, and i guess we like it. idk about europe and the rest of the first world, but that's the stuff that really gets us going, i think.

Yes. I completely disagree with divorces aswell. You marry someone you love. It should'nt be made in haste at all and you don't ask the big question if there are any doubts in your mind at all. Sorry but I'm highly conservative and I do not agree with gay marriage what so ever

reminds me so much of atticus finch.,

props to that kid. the people behind him you could tell were getting into it. i havent heard anyone say a speech that empowering and moving since gregory peck lol

If you're going to treat people like shit.... Expect some of the same back. You're entitled to your opinion, but not the right to tell me who I can and can't marry (fortunately in CANADA its a constitutionally guaranteed right).

And there's no way you can cite the bible as a way to call gay marriage wrong - selectively interpreting religious texts to support your own biases and prejudices is pretty fucking hypocritical. On that note, you can do whatever the fuck you want, and I'm not going to stop you or give you shit for it unless you try to fuck with me. I expect the same treatment.

I have friends who practice a wide variety of religions, and none of them have an issue with me being gay. I have a deeply christian friend who is completely supportive of me, and I respect his religious background.

Truth is, your way of thought is not always right. Sometimes, you need to adapt and change. There are 6 billion people on this planet and we can ALL coexist. Pull your head out of your ass.

At least you're consistent. Doesn't make you not a fucking idiot though.
And to the guy I misjudged: I just figured you were one of those "idiots" meh bad.

if you are overly proud to be from any country and talk about that all the time you have to find a new hobby. seriously who the fuck would hang out with this kid.

Listen asshole. I'm not treating you like shit... If you wanna get married to a dude and suck eachothers dick be my guest. DO NOT TAKE MY RELIGION AND TWIST AND WARP IT! It is solid, set in stone truth. Always has been always will be. Also do not call me ignorant, do not try to change my opinion and do not compare me to some Christian guy who makes exceptions in his faith. I've always had these opinions and I always will. And the great thing about America is the wether I am right, or wrong(yeah ok) I am allowed to have my opinion. This is why the forefathers established this country... They wanted to escape religious oppression in England amoung other things. So please you can marry your boyfriend in Canada I don't give a fuck. I don't live in Canada thank god. But please, remember it has been voted unconstitutional in the country over and over again. Thank you for listening.

Unfortunately, having your feeling hurt isn't grounds for the revocation of a groups constitutional rights. So..... Sucks for you.
