This is what I think represents a true and patriotic American. I am so glad to see there is still an American citizen that I can truly admire and whom I can honestly say I am proud of. Too bad they're so far and few in between nowadays.

hey look someone makes sense!
this entire debate with same sex marriage just baffles me i dont understand why it exists

inb4 shitstorm

I really don't see how gay marriage is still up for debate, I thought our society was supposed to be the one who scoffed at our history's ignorance and discriminative behavior.

This man has, single handedly, made me proud to say I have the United states as my continental neighbors.

until the westboro baptist church speaks out again...

Pretty much as said I do not understand why this is still even an issue to debate about. This guy is a really good speaker too, and hopefully people will stop being so ignorant. Good find OP

ahahahah

but seriously he spoke very well and with great confidence..im confused as to how anyone can actually debate this anymore

Claim!

He went to my highschool and I also lifeguarded with him. He's a great dude.

He's only like a grade above me.

Oh the shenanigans we pulled on the children at the pool...

Seems like alot of Teens get caught up in COD and join the army, but im grateful for them and their contribution.

you shouldn't speak, be grateful for the men and women who serve for you can have the right I wish i could take away from you,

i dont mean to sound brash or calloused, but what is his sexual orientation? myself, i have no problems with same sex marriage, the only people giving homosexuals a bad rap is their ridiculous flamboyant minority. but that goes for any "2nd class" population, the muslims are catergorized as terrorists due to their extremist factions etc... but just out of curiosity, i wonder if his parents forced homosexuality on him like christian parents force celibacy and intolerance on theirs, or they let him figure things out for himself. its funny, because if he is straight, i doubt they had the reaction that a nuclear family would have if they found out their son was gay.

He's straight. From what he's told me his parents didnt force anything like that on him. They let him make his own decisions.

On another note, i think he's coaching both debate teams for City and West high. He's one of the better, if not the best that ive seen come out of West.

Never had a problem with same sex marriage. Got a gay uncle who is married to a man... They're both named Jim but that is besides the point. This guy is a great public speaker, I wish I could have him talk to people I didn't want to.

I know you're probably not a complete fucking idiot BUTWhy even ask if his parents forced homosexuality on him, what the fuck does that even mean? Making him be gay and engage in homosexual sex acts? I mean what are you even talking about. Why would you think gay parents would make their kids gay. You can't make somebody be gay, just like you can't make somebody be straight. Why would you assume gay parents "force homosexuality" just because some christian parents encourage celibacy. Ya, that's right encourage, the only way for parents to force anything is to lock their kids up and make sure they don't have sex.
You just have this attitude about you that leads me to believe you don't like gay people. Like you assume a straight couple would be angry if their kid was gay (which isn't the case all the time, or even the majority perhaps) so it leads you to believe "I doubt they had the reaction that a nuclear family would have if they found out their son was gay". Why would gay people be mad if their child was straight??? You act like gay people have this worldwide agenda to eliminate all non-homosexuals so the whole world can be homosexual. Gay parents don't give a shit if their son isn't gay, why would they, they are above judging people based on sexual preference, just like you, and everyone else who does it should be.

im pretty sure he was just pondering and nothing else...

and then you went ahead and pms'd all over the place..need a new tampon?

im really surprised my post recieved such a reaction. i was simply curious as to what his sexual orientation was. Im sorry if i came off as sounding intolerant, but , you cant judge my attitude towards homosexuality through a block of text on the internet. Forced is terrible choice of a word, i notice that now, and through first-hand experience i have seen families completely isolate their children due to their sexual preference. granted, i live in a rather small, conservative community, so making such a claim without fully grasping an accurate statistic or research was ill-conceived. this post is rushed, sorry. but back to thread relevancy this guy has a solid grasp on reality and was spot on about the issue. i cant wait to come back to this thread later and see some crazy responses.

you kind of can. you made it pretty clear that you think sexual preference is a choice, and especially a choice that can be influenced by other people. i think this speaks volumes about your attitude toward homosexuality, whether you intended it to or not

I'm not sure how this relates to American patriotism specifically? He is eloquent, but it's the same debate that rages in every country. He could have made that very nice speech in any Court in the world, replacing 'Iowa' with a different nation or federal state, and it would have had the same impact. No doubt, he is a true and proud liberal, and a solid advocate of same sex marriage.

pretty sure gay parents never do this. maybe a few instances, but basically never. it just makes no sense. after having heterosexuality pushed on them their whole lives and feeling pressure to hide their homosexuality, why would they do something similar to their children?

I believe that there is no true way to be American, except watching football. America is the product of 20 different types of people coming together. Everyone is unique in America. We do not have a distinct way of living, our politics are extremely different, and we eat extremely different foods. The only thing we have in common is freedom. Yet that is what makes us all different. We are not like Europe where only one religion was allowed to grow in specific countries, we all have different lively hoods, and we don't force our views on others. There is no distinct way to be American. We are a giant tossed salad (or melting pot, I'll leave that up to debate).
