... considering B&H is usually about the lowest price you can find (especially if you're in Canada), this is a fantastic deal. I think you may still be eligible for some Canon rebates going on right now too.

So many people talk about loving this lens; now is the time to buy it!
 
Pretty good deal. It's probably on sale because the 24-70 IS is supposed to be announced soon (rumors, rumors, rumors ofc.)
 
the IS will likely never come, reasons:

A) 24-70 is heavy enough as is, often people complain about the weight

B) as far as a "walk around" lens goes, it's pretty big, and IS would just make it bigger

C) the price of the lens is at the sweet spot, IS would just make it more expensive

D) IS does nothing to freeze subjects, and with camera's handeling noise as well as they do (just keeps getting better) and with sensors becoming even more light sensitive, there really isn't a point for it, the only thing you need IS for is something with some actual length.

IS is just not logical for the 24-70
