Thinking About Revy 2015-16

Hey all,

I'm taking next year off from school and right now I'm trying to put together a plan for the year. I want to live in Revy I think, but I also anticipate being out of the country until December. That means I wouldn't be start in Revy until January 2016.

So just a couple questions as I start to figure this one out:

Is it a pipe dream to think about subletting/leasing from January-April?

Is it true that there are effectively no jobs for a greenhorn coming in after the season starts? i.e. jobs at the mountain or just generally around town (washing dishes, bussing tables etc.)

Is anyone looking for a roommate?

I think that's maybe enough to get the ball rolling. Any help or advice you can offer is greatly appreciated.

I almost did the exact same thing this past season. I lived in the Netherlands and couldn't move towards Canada untill the end of december/beginning of january, because of a weird situation back home.

I tried to arrange a place to live before flying out, but me not being in the same area and a nine hour time difference made that quite difficult. As soon as I got there though it was all smiles, I spend one night in a hostel and found a place with really chill people. They are still living in Revelstoke and I can ask them if they have or know know something (might be a bit early though).

There is quite a large house on Leach st. (old retirement home) near the southside market which mainly consists of people skibumming their way through life. I can check if some of the same people from last winter are still living there, because they always have a room for rent for an undetermined period of time.

I didn't work at all for the five months I lived there, but from what i heard and saw it will be quite difficult to find something at that point in time and for such a short period.

I'll check and see if there are still some people in Revy that are able to help you out, but i would say just go there. It might seem that all the rooms have been rented out allready, but as soon you get there and start talking to some of the many skibums chances are you'll find something real quick.

It is an awesome town, mountain and you've rogers pass right around the corner

Super late reply, but no it isn't impossibly to find a job. Bums get fired all the time. A gravy job is tough but not impossibly. The more hours you're willing to work instead of ski the higher chance you'll get a job. I have one extra room in my house but our landlord told us no more roommates. Part time could slip under the radar, or crashing until you find somewhere.

Thanks for the offer man! I ended up finding a place with a couple of friends. We're living in the Gardens, life's good haha.

Haha oh man. The gardens. Tell Bernice Reis says to go fuck yourself haha. Don't get me wrong, me and my roomie loved living there cause it's full of ski bums, but Bernice is a fucking bitch. Don't do any work for her cause she'll find a way to not pay you. Don't expect to get your deposit back, you won't. But other than that it's great. We were 313A it was nice and newly reno'd, with some black mold in the shower that Bernice told us we caused before even looking at it lol. But if Bernice wasn't there I'd move back. I'm in Columbia park now not too far away.

When the day comes that she fucks me over, I'm gonna break that out like "oh by the way, Reis says go fuck yourself!" Shit's been mellow thus far but I'm sure something will hit the fan sooner or later. No joke though everyone who's visited has said that our spot is among the nicest they've ever seen at the gardens, so it's not as shitty as I was expecting. Counting on Bernice being distracted by the rowdier kids down the hall too hahah.

If you keep a low profile you'll probably be okay, but our apartment was directly above her on the two floors up, and our friends lived below is and had no furniture. Every sound we made travelled down lol. I love the gardens though. It's kinda like a right of passage in revy. So many ski bums have lived there at some point.
