looking for thoughts on my plan

i'm going to a tech school for graphic design and living at home. my home desktop is set up great with all the applications i need. so i don't think i need to go out and get a macbook pro. so i was thinking about getting a netbook for doing some research between classes maybe type up some small things if need be. and doing large projects and assignments on my desktop at home

i was looking at

this toshiba

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Toshiba-NB255-N240/14335613

this sony

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sony-10.1-VAIO-VPCM121AX-Laptop-PC-with-Intel-Atom-N450-Processor-Windows-7-Starter/14663175

this dell

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Dell-10.1-160-GB-IM10-3067SWH/12456228

any advice would be a great help thanks!

From personal experience, I would avoid a net book, and if this is in your price range, consider this setup instead:

ipad with keyboard

+

CourseNotes application (http://www.coursenotesapp.com/)

Another plus would be the variety of design related applications that are available for the iPad such as Adobe Ideas, Autodesk's Sketchbook and other note taking/productivity apps like Evernote and dropbox.

Sorry If this isn't what you were looking for, I don't know much about netbooks, but what I do know is that I love my iPad!

Good luck with your decision!

thats something i'll look into. an i able to save files like word docs and transfer them to my desktop. i dont know much about ipads

i'd get the sony, but then again, i don't know what i'm talking about.
my current laptop is a 13'' toshiba satellite with 2.1ghz dual core pentium processor, 4gb of ram and windows 7 os. it ain't horrible, but the wifi connection passes out all the time, isn't as fast as other peeps (the internet speeeeeed) and is just a general pain in the ass.
therefore, imo, dont get the toshiba.

look at the alienware m11x. its packs so much for how small it is and kicks most computer's asses. not really a netbook but it is about as light

I'm on a netbook right now, i think i have the same dell model as the one you posted a link for. I got it today through my school, every student gets one. becuase i did not purchase it myself (havent done any research on net books in general) I'm not sure what should be expected of it so unfortunatley i can't help very much. the thing ive noticed coming from using my macbook thats about 3 years old is that its pretty slow, starting up as well as running applications is a lot slower than im used to. if i were you i would look into the ipad though, its a lot cooler and possibley more functionable than this.

the dell sucks. my cousins got them and i couldnt not stand using them and they hate them now too after their first year in uni.

check out Eeepc and Asus, 2 very solid brands. Toshiba is known for bad quality.
