Think You're Original With Your Song Choice, Think Again...

Well, my heart just sank super deep into my stomach. I have been stacking clips for this edit throughout my college vacation and finally had enough to piece it all together. I spent hours scanning the internet for an original unknown song that I have not heard in other peoples ski edits. I found THE perfect song. I spent roughly 7-8hours editing, finished up, and then went on NS to see recent edits posted. I have not been on NS for a bit, so I went straight to the "Video of the Day". First edit I watched was dope, along with the second... but the third edit I watched opened with the same tune as mine. I was in denial for a quick second, thought I hit the spacebar and my edit was playing in the background... until I scrubbed through the edit... Goddamn... Worst feeling in the world, probably should have checked NS before I started to edit... Lessoned learn.

I don't mind songs being used more than once as long they aren't overused. Sick of seeing gaper edits with "opposite of adults" by Chiddy bang

I'll post the edit when its done on here, you will prob see which video of the day it matches up with haha

Who honestly cares about when and where the song has been used. Yes that one Chiddy bang song is annoying as hell. But like music from Level 1 or Meathead movies, these are the sources where I find a lot of good music, and if I like a song I have every right to use that song in a edit, even if was in a ski flick or in a couple edits.

Ya man, make the edit your own. It sucks, but if you're going to post it up here people are going to give you shit for it...and that'll take away from the feedback that you'll get on other aspects of your edit. It sucks to have to cater to what other people think, but if you want truly personal feedback on your edit (aka not have people write it off because of the song) then you should find original music :/

But you were already working on this edit before that one came out. So I don't see what the big problem is.

You should have just made your edit and let it go, claimed you had no idea and moved on.

It's not a matter of copying someone else, I just want the audience to feel fresh vibes from a new song they haven't seen in an edit

but will that find if the song has been used even if the uploader didnt specify it in the about section of the video? I thought that "site:newschoolers.com" just searched the text of the website..?

Yeah this is true if a person doesn't specify the artist in the video information in the upload searching it won't do shit.

Oh, well then that's more of a personal thing, and something you'll have to figure out for yourself. I guess just try to go as deep as you can to find stuff. There are a lot of good instrumentals out there from people with 25 listens on soundcloud or bandcamp that would work well for an edit.

For instance, a kid I went to high school with:
