Think about it, instead of checking your thread all the time to look at "sick" "wish I had some money" and bumping your thread. Try it.
 
The biggest gripe about gear swap is that it isn't a collection of individuals... it seems that it is more retail sellers selling either cheap, unsold or unwanted gear at 20-30% off. I don't want to sort through tons of adds of returned stuff at almost retail prices just to find the several items being personally sold that look like they have come straight out of the 80's. Sure if more people started using it, there would be better gear and better prices, but it would also attract more retail attention (much like ebay)....
 
Are you guys taking my suggestion of a Gear Swap Forum seriously? It should be done like TGR. One tech talk forum, one Gear Swap. Obviously names can change, but the idea would remain the same.

People looking to buy/sell wouldn't have to sift through all the threads about "Where should I mount my FKS185s on my 166 AR6s?" and the rest of that.

For Christs sake, if we can have an "Event Forum" and a "Camp Forum" 2 new forums replacing "Ski Equipment" can't be that hard to do. Hurry up and get on it.
 
Agreed, it would def help clear up the forums a bit to separate the two. I'm for it.

And I've signed up for the gear swap, but really never use it. Forums are just easier, and you can talk to the people directly, interact better...
 
Thank you. God. Someone finally gets it. The equipment forum is way to cluttered with useless posts. At the very least, there should be a classifieds forum and "tech talk" forum.
 
This would definitely help clear everything up. Also, we wouldn't have a bunch of people bumping threads since there really isn't THAT many actual sales all the time, but rather lots of ski equipment questions.

Also, is there any chance we could somehow add tags to the side of posts? Like a little image, if we had a sell/buy forum it would really help since people could just have the buy or sell logo next to their post.

If no logos, I think there should be at least some sort of guideline, simple as a capped "BUYING" "SELLING" "TRADING" , and if you want to list what it has to be following the buy/sell/trade :what your selling/brands , in low cap. It would organize everything way better, every thread without the proper format should just be deleted since the idea would be that almost all the recent sales will be right up there in the front page since nothing else is cluttering them.

hahaha... ding ding...... I was headed for that....... Boys and girls, in this day of instant internet nobody seems to want to take the time on here to write a classified. it's got too move fast, even if it is moving around in a big circle going no where.... IMHO!!

It's fairly certain that the ski equipment forums will be separated into info and Buy and Sell. I just wonder how long before the B&S forum will need to be divided into skis, boots, outerwear and misc - which would essentially end up being what already exists... the classifieds!!!
 
No. A gear swap forum will be enough. Classifieds don't work on the site because there is no forum portion to it. Most of this site revolves around forums, whether they are in cults or not. People are used to it and its not going to change.

It is too difficult to find (no quick link), and the format isn't as easy to edit, and even still, peoples icons don't show up with the entry, and people like to see that. I know a lot of people by their icon first, then their name. Especially if the name is something ambiguous like armadaskier2007 or something.

TGR's Gear Swap forum works very well, why has it taken NS so long to realize we need to change? Abandon the classified system immediately and start having mods move the shit out of ski equipment and into the 2 new ones. Yeah it will suck to clean the forums up to begin with, but thats what you hired new mods for right?

Just abandon the really old threads as well. Delete them all. So much of them are "where do I mount my skis" or "PE vs. AR6" as so on. All crap. Plus the search function hardly works so nobody actually can find the old ones to bump them.

Lets start over.
 
no worries. Things are changing.

The search function is going to be modified to search the actual thread content, instead of just the thread title, so it will make the search function actually functional.

I have also been a proponent of a separate tech talk and gear swap forum for along time. It will just be easier and better for everyone, IMO. GearSwap sucks. Classifieds suck. From what it seems like to me, the development of two separate forums is close. I think it will be sweet. Hopefully it will be soon.
 
THANK GOD! We really need a more, whats the word, like, broader search function. Like, if your one word off, it wont come up.
 
poor word choice on my part. By developed I just meant created. Just the word I chose to use I guess. I am sure it is really easy.
 
yeah dude, i just searched "acl recovery time" and nothing came up, but when i searched "acl" i got a thread with the title "acl recovery time period" which never came up under the acl recovery time search
 
In terms of search bar, can we make sure that you can choose between searching title & inside of threads. Some words come up a lot in threads that really have nothing to do with the actual content of the thread, and it'd be even worse than now if every search searched both title & inside content
 
word im definitely down for tech talk/gear swap forums - no classifieds or gearswap.
