Think About NOTHING

you would have to not think. if you're thinking about "nothing" then you're still thinking.

but yeah, i can't do it.

think about if nothing existed but then nothing would be something????? my brain just vomited, shat and sneezed with its eyes open simultaniously.

yea, i mind fuck myself daily to that question. I always imagine what would be outside of our universe, and if it was endless... it could'nt be.. its just not possible. And what was around before the big bang? something must have been there, or was it just black? or maybe purple?

^ straight up thats exactly what i think of and i try to explain it to people but no one gets it. i am glad i have found you my significant other.

i've done injury to my brain thinking about it so much. I think I read about nothing somewhere, I forget where. But It perfectly explained nothing. (lol)

i thought about this:

I think about this all the time. I watch those through the wormhole shows with Morgan Freeman and they are pretty interesting. I'm pretty sure they address this but not sure.

I don't think there is much hope of us grasping what happened "before" the big bang. There was no time before the big bang, therefore there was no "before."

kinda the same idea but this question is mind blowing to me at least
what happens to you conscience after you die? like your intuition. does it just vanish and your mind becomes nothing? like does your entire state of being cease to exist?

my mind goes a zillion miles an hour all day. two things at once and neither one of them am I truly concentrated on. I began meditating which is essentially what your talking about. Letting go of all thoughts so theres nothing, allowing your brain to relax. But like everything it takes practice and its difficult to achieve. The meditation tutorials say instead of trying to think of nothing which inevitably leads to something, try just letting the thoughts go as they enter your head.

I've read some pretty cool stories of meditation really helping people change their life and thinking. I started practicing a month ago and ended up taking a break. gotta really make a goal of doing it for a month and putting aside of a half hour to settle down and try each day. I'm gonna have another go at it soon.

Pretty much. One of the theories is that the universe will stop expanding and then gravitational forces will start pulling everything back together into one massive (but very small) black hole, there will be another big bangs and the same thing will happen. The universe accelerates outwards then starts to bring everything back together, then another big bang. My only issue is where the hell did all the matter come from in the first place?

when you die. your conscienceness (not being an actual tangable thing) dissapears. similar to things on a hard drive. imagine if your laptop is plugged in during a power surge and it fries the whole thing. the laptop is your brain and the power surge is death. the physical matter is still there but the mechanisms that power your memory thought and motion no longer work. stephen hawking recently has released a book about this go find it and read it if im not making sense.
your conscience does not exist to begin with so it cant go anywhere it just no longer processes things.

you litteraly just mind fucked me more than i've ever been mind fucked. When i read that, i could feel every blood vesel in my body pulsate. I now realize how lucky I am to think and function.

Damn these theories getting updated... I read Stephen Hawking's most recent book and this is essentially what he said. (this being my earlier post).

We are limited but the dimensions we live in and the complexity of the human brain.

That being said, imagine the possibilities of things we can't know....

Just my own thoughts, nothing of what I am about to say I have red in a book so take it with a handful of salt. As I understand matter is a form of energy, not something that can be converted to energy. String theory suggests that all particles are made up of small oscillating "strings," I interpret this as all particles are not tiny little pieces of matter but tiny little bundles of energy, a way of relating electrons (an elemental particle) to photons (another elementary particle that einstein described as being a bundle of a wavelength along with being a particle at the same time.)
You could make the argument that all matter was created from all the energy that started say a first big bang since from my understanding matter and energy are essentially the same fundamental thing. Then you could ask the question where did all the energy come from but that would just start to be redundant.
Also completely off topic but aren't you just going into high school? How do you know physics 30 material?

there was a RadioLab episode where this lady lost her ability to talk from a head injury and it's the only possible way to actually have a completely blank mind. she said you're basically just watching and having no real describable reactions. then she learned how to talk again over several years and was able to explain it. she was 50/50 about going back to it or not.

not actually possible to think about nothing when we have the ability to communicate through language i guess
