They are FORCING us to Timeline

Why has NS collectively decided that deleting one's facebook is somehow "elitist"? I'm not trying to be "edgy" in deleting it, I'm simply not satisfied with the direction the site is going. Not to mention it's a huge time sink; I'd rather be skiing, reading, sewing, cooking, hanging with friends, or shit, just watching the clouds roll by.

inb4 pointless flaming

It's a huge time sink if you allow it to be a huge time sink. Why can you not do all the things listed while still using Facebook?

This. Facebook being a time sink isn't a sad statement about Facebook, its a sad statement about the user.

I don't disagree. Facebook is a simple path of least resistance; "I could go split wood.... or I could get on facebook". It's just too easy; so in deleting it, you're removing a path of least resistance, and making it harder not to step up and do fun, productive, and inspired things. I'd say that's a noble goal, not one making me somehow inferior to the ascetic, iron-willed facebook monks, the ones limiting themselves to only the occasional log in.... the true master race, I bow before thee.Actually, if anything, it sounds like those of you who maintain your facebooks almost as a testament to your iron wills are on the high horse. Let's face it, we all think we're right, and all strive to be better than other people by some measure; as our society seeks to quantify EVERYTHING. Why not step out of the loop and quit labeling people for doing things that don't concern you one bit? We all bleed red.

They dont concern me. Im just amused by people who proudly proclaim that they are off Facebook like its some sort of weight off your back. Especially on NS since if you have no self control on Facebook, chances are NS is consuming your life as well. This isnt elitist, its the truth.

Equally sad are the kids who find it necessary to post on here how dumb their Facebook friends posts are. Either ignore them, or unfriend them. Simple solution.

You want to know what's worse than Facebook/Twitter? Smartphones. People are always on them and it drives me fucking crazy when people (my friends) are on them while eating. Can't we show just a little basic fucking etiquette or try and have a conversation instead of avoiding awkward silences by looking at useless bullshit on your phone? I don't understand what type of family they were raised in but that is certainly not how I was raised. Sorry for that random rant, it just reminded me of one of the things that is sending society in the wrong direction (socially).

I don't understand why people feel the need to delete Facebook. Do you have no self control? You don't need to be on it 24/7. I have Facebook, but I don't really use it that much. I use it to keep in touch with friends who don't live near me anymore, and it's great to set up trips/events quickly and easily. I set up a ski trip with 5 of my friends on Facebook the other night in about 10 minutes - rides, who's bringing what, how we're paying, transporting skis/boards, etc. Taking the time to call everyone separately and figure that out would have taken a lot longer. You don't have to use Facebook simply as a tool to stalk people and look at pictures. I realize that most of this site is in high school and you see your friends every day, but when you get older it's nice to be able to keep in touch with people and see what they're doing by making a few clicks or having a quick conversation in FB chat without making a 20 minute phone call (there is definitely a time and place where phone calls are better suited than Facebook, but for a quick what's up, what are you doing this weekend, how's life kinda thing, it's just super easy to chat on Facebook, plus it's fun to see pictures so you know what they're up to).

Just my $.02

so you dont like the FREE updates on the FREE social network. if you hate facebook so much, you are allowed to leave.

in other words. shut the fuck up.

So instead of just never going on it, you make it damn near impossible to talk to people who you don't come in contact with regularly. Makes sense.
