SCHOOL 1977 vs. SCHOOL 2007

Scenario: Jack goes quail hunting before school, pulls into school

parking lot with shotgun in gun rack.1977 - Vice principal comes over,

looks at Jack*s shotgun, goes to his car and gets his own shotgun to

show Jack.2007 - School goes into lockdown, the RCMP are called, Jack is

hauled off to jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors are

called in to assist traumatized students and teachers.

Scenario: Johnny and Mark get into a fistfight after school.1977 -

Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up

buddies.2007 - Police are called, SWAT team arrives and arrests Johnny

and Mark. They are charged with assault and both are expelled even

though Johnny started it.

Scenario: Jeffrey won*t sit still in class, disrupts other

students.1977 - Jeffrey is sent to the principal*s office and given a

good paddling. Returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class

again.2007 - Jeffrey is given huge doses of Ritalin. Becomes a zombie.

Tested for ADD. School gets extra provincial funding because Jeffrey has

a disability.

Scenario: Billy breaks a window in his neighbour*s car and his Dad

gives him a whipping with his belt.1977 - Billy is more careful next

time, grows up normal, goes to college, and becomes a successful

businessman.2007 - Billy*s dad is arrested for child abuse. Billy is

removed to foster care and joins a gang. State psychologist tells

Billy*s sister that she remembers being abused herself and their

dad goes to prison. Billy*s mom has an affair with the psychologist.

Scenario: Mark gets a headache and takes some Aspirin to school.1977 -

Mark shares Aspirin with the school principal out on the smoking

dock.2007 - Police are called and Mark is expelled from school for drug

violations. His car is searched for drugs and weapons.

Scenario: Pedro fails high-school English.1977 - Pedro goes to summer

school, passes English, goes to college.2007 - Pedro*s cause is taken

up by local human rights group. Newspaper articles appear nationally

explaining that making English a requirement for graduation is racist.

Canadian Civil Liberties Association files class action lawsuit against

provincial school system and Pedro*s English teacher. English is

banned from core curriculum. Pedro is given his diploma anyway but ends

up mowing lawns for a living because he cannot speak English.

Scenario: Johnny takes apart leftover Canada Day firecrackers, puts

them in a model airplane paint bottle and blows up an anthill.1977 -

Ants die.2007 * Canadian Firearms Centre and the RCMP are called and

Johnny is charged with domestic terrorism. CSIS investigates parents,

siblings are removed from the home, computers are confiscated, and

Johnny*s dad goes on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly

again.

Scenario: Johnny falls during recess and scrapes his knee. His teacher,

Mary, finds him crying, and gives him a hug to comfort him.1977 - Johnny

soon feels better and goes back to playing.2007 - Mary is accused of

being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces three years in

federal prison. Johnny undergoes five years of therapy.

I always watch old school high-school movies like Dazed and Confused and wish my high-school would've been like that.
 
I've never seen that before, probably because its from canada. But everything is so true. Its sad that soon there are going to be kids that don't know any different.

OMG!!!! that reminds me, SADD chapter at my high school staged a car crash to represent effects of drunk driving and it was reported that people died, and they had makeup and shit on and then the school had to give grief councilling and stuff even after they told everyone it was staged. Got soooo blown out of proportion. and everyone got mad. it was a huge fiasco. hahaha
 
this is so right, high school is fucking rediculous right now, everything leads to something and gets blown out of proportion
 
I was listening to NPR over breakfast a few weeks ago, and I remember a story where a girl left the house in a rush with two slices of toast and a butter knife. She realized she had the knife at the bus stop, but the bus was there, so she put it in here backpack. In class, it fell out when she got a binder or something. The teacher saw, reported it, and it was confiscated. She was suspended, then expelled, as the school has a 'no potential weapons' policy. Shits over the line, honestly.
 
So true but the way i look at it is that the reason this happeneing is because a small percent of people cant handle themselfs in society and the rest of us have to suffer

on a softer note i love how they add in that billys mom has an afair wit the psychologist.hahahaha
 
yeah in my school you can't prank anybody. you get in big trouble for pranks or jokes. that would have been condoned a while ago
 
1977- Person skis straight into a tree and dies. People mourn for him, and are more careful when picking what tree lines are good to hit.

2007- Senny Kalvini decides to go and hit a jump that was made really shittily, extra fast. He overshoots the jump gets paralyzed, and ruins skiing for all Canadians who plan to ski at RCR resorts.
 
Christ...that shit is so true...and yeah i almost got expelled over a fucking conversation over IM last year because i said "harassing" things to this fool and his parents took it to the school. I fucking hate the school system right now, everything is so overly uptight. People need to loosen up a little bit, jesus christ, its not the end of the world if one little stupid fucking thing happens, but no, the school has to go apeshit and get kids expelled over stupid shit like that...

Yup that happened to me I almost got expelled for calling this kid a faggot on IM because his parents printed out the conversation and sent it to the school it was ridiculous...
 
hahahahaha i love that movie cause my highschool life WAS like that, except we didnt paddle kids or any shit like that...but seriously, that movie reminds me so much of highschool that i almost cant watch it because it makes me so nostalgic for hanging out with my friends that i never see any more

my school could be uptight sometimes though, so props to the thread creator for highlighting the fact that our parents' generation needs to lighten the fuck up sometimes
 
when i was in something like grade 4, i got a lecture from a teacher for taking scissors and cutting a tiny bit off of some kids hair, the other kid thought it was funny.... he was talkin about weapons an shit, freaking out
 
Wow, I made one of those sophomore year too! But I didn't get expelled... thank god. Did make it with a disposable camera and some copper wire?
 
I was interrogated for 2 hours in middle school. finally the principle was called in. he threatened to charge me with assault. what happened?

my friend pushed me, and I very lightly bumped into a teacher. I immediately started apologizing profusely. they gave me 3 days in school, 2 days after school. it was reduced to a week of lunch detention.
 
People could have a lot more fun in the 70's because rules weren't so strict. I kinda wish i had lived back then

its crazy! i thought my high school was up tight. i got a detention for leaving the cafe to get a notebook out of my locker....the teacher tried to chase me down the hall but couldnt catch me cuz she had a limp...and i was like dude relax im getting a notebook, im not gonna blow up the school or anything. she flipped out...had the detention written and a nun ready to talk to me when i got back (it was a catholic school) my friends all clapped and cheered cuz the teacher was a dumbass.

i don't know if it's so much a matter of being uptight. we live in a world where words like "terror" are used so often they have lost their, i don't know, meaning. it's used for anything from blowing up buildings to freaking walking across the street the wrong way. that, and giving kids WAY to much authority in their upbringing. when i was 10, i didn't know what was best and i was told so. now 10 year olds are asked their opinions and what kind of punishment they should get. parents and teachers aren't allowed to discipline their kids without the threat of being charged with assault and crap.
 
Good stuff. Well its shitty but.. on All Things Considered there was a segement on how all the baby boomer generation kids (my generation I think) is being handed everything. We get awards for just participating in a sport, we're babied, lots don't have jobs and are given money by their parents, I guess not growing up having to work hard for something. They talked about how this will affect this country when they are running things.
 
a kid streaks at one of the biggest high school football games of the season he gets caught

1977- everyone laughs he gets a slap on the wrist and everyone goes on there way

2007- he gets thrown into a cop car brought down to the police station put in a cell and get a court trial ends up he has to do community service and register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

After college- he goes to get a professional job pwoplw wont hire him because he is a sex offender.... his life runied for a stupid prank

real story a boulder high i dont know the details as much as other people do but its a true story
