The Zune, destroyer of the iPod

looks pretty sweet, i'll have to check that out when it is released. i still think that the ipod will sell better tho, just because people know about them already, and might be a little skeptical about the zune. but it does look pretty dope, and is made my microsoft

theyve had a few different things like these but the fact of the matter is ipods are too main stream for anything to come in and make even a dent in sales

wait about 1 year so there can be different generations of this, nothing hits it off the 1st time. Theres 5 generations of iPods...

The only thing the Zune has over an iPod is that cool brown colour. Other than that, it doesn't have shit. hahahhahhah

Obviously you haven't heard about it. You can share songs and photos through WiFi connection or w/e. You get either 3 plays or 3 days to use them (whichever comes first). Its pretty cool, theres videos on youtube about it.

I dont see it happening, the crative zen was spose to be the ipod killer and that never happened. The fact is that ipod is just to popular to ever truely be destroyed

i think it has the potential to kill the i pod if microsft uses a better program to run it other then media player i tunes is just so user friendly

No, but I could care less about either of those. I like being the guy with the "sick ipod thats not from apple" as people say.

It won't sell more than the ipod because an ipod is your generic mp3 player and is so mainstream that nobody will recognize the microsoft one

Anybody actually used the new WMP? It doesn't suck. I know, shocking. Shocking but true.

That thing looks cool and all but it's not "better enough" than the ipod to do any real damage to the market.

1) how can anyone say the Ipod OS is better then the Zune OS? its not even released yet

2) Zune doesnt use windows media player to upload songs

3) The screen on the Zune is almost 50% bigger, same sized device.

4) microsoft has actually gotten its shit together lately. look at IE 7 and vista

Let's overlook the rest of the shit you wrote and focus on these two:

IE 7 STILL isn't as good or stable as Firefox. Don't believe me? Go check Cnet. Sure, their reviews are consumer level crap, but that's who IE 7 is built for. Security wise, it's STILL fucked.

Vista? The OS that's years behind as far as schedule, and once released, will STILL be feature incomplete, STILL be insecure, and STILL trumped as far as useability by OSX 10.4, which by the time Vista will be released will be obsolete, thanks to OSX 10.5, aka Jaguar? It isn't even a legitimate step forward from XP anymore.

I hope you don't build your own computers or reformat your Windows system more than once for every copy of Windows of you buy, because Vista will only let you transfer your copy from one computer to another. This includes re-installs due to "major" hardware changes.

As for this Zune POS, no one knows exactly what the fuck it does, how the fuck it works, other than it uses yet ANOTHER microsoft spawned solution for online-content distribution, and it once again is overly complicated and potentially the weak link. As for Wifi song sharing, I could just as easiy just go "hey you have to hear this song" and offer up an earbud, as mentionned in most media covering this player. Besides, if you want to see how the Zune will probably pan out, go find the Toshiba Gigabeat player and see how well that sold. Don't know what I'm talking about? That's the fucking point. It failed, and the Zune is 99% of what the gigabeat was, and is built by Toshiba.

They better fucking get it right if they want a snowball's shot in hell of getting even a 10% market share.

Want to kill the iPod? Make an mp3 player with comparable features, comparable storage capacity, comparable battery life, comparable performance, good firmware, and sell it for half as much as a comparable iPod with a better warrantee. Trying to make something marginally better (which will probably have issues especially with the first gen) is not the solution. No one cares that your new player has two occasionally useful features the iPod doesn't because when it comes down to it, it's not a fucking iPod, is it? The "k2 Fujative" strategy is the solution.

By the way, I know it's possible, because I bought my 20 gig Iriver H10 for 200 cdn at future shop when the 30 gig iPod sitting right next to it was going for 500. If you accept a smaller markup, you'll get your market share established. Really simple.

At least, that's how I see it.

as i have siad before windows and gay and bill gates takes it up the ass from his wife.....therefore nothing good can come from them. People jsut ahte on apple now because it became popular, poeple hated on it ebfore because they didn't undertsand it.  bascially eveyrone is fucked and i am drunk ,s o you should all be drunk mother fuckers.     even if zune does destroy this version  of the ipod apple has been working on thier pda shit for the past 10 years, seriosuly, they ahve stopped it form prodcution at leats 3 times, so when it blooms it will be tight as your mom's virgin pussy.

when will you guys get that killing the ipod isnt about features. every mp3 on the planet that came out recently have more features at a better price. they dont give the status symbol the ipod gives, they dont have itunes and they dont have the marketing that apple has.

hahah look at the vids that come on it when you buy it

Short Films

5 Boro: “A New York Skateboarding Minute” (Skateboarding)

Radical Films: “Kranked — Progression” (Mountain Biking)

TGRTV The North Face (Skiing/Snowboarding)

haha, theres also a lot more vids and music, most of them ive never heard of

jd you are correct. one thing that will kill all other mp3 players is when one will play all formats of digital music. to me that is the one thing i would look for over all else. that and if its got wifi why not make it capable of browsing the internet, the wifi in th ezune is no better than if it used bluetooth

How does Window Media Player suck exactly? I've been using it for a few years because it works just fine and is just as user friendly as itunes, winamp, real, etc...

then you obviously have no ear for audio quality, cuz itunes sounds like shit. wmp isn't any better either...but, then again, most people don't care.

The Zune's wifi connection has the potential to be amazing. Unfortunately you're only gonna be able to use it to view other peoples Zune music, not sync your zune with your computer. It's going to be using Microsoft's Live Anywhere software which should be pretty sweet, based on how sweet Xbox Live is. I would buy a Zune if it worked with macs.

I must admit, that does look like an excellent peice of hardware, but the moment that the Zune hits the stores, since Apple literally have a monopoly of the portable media player market, it'll just keep its massive consumer base happy by releasing something new. This new iPod might not absolutely smash the Zune on features, but I reckon since that Zune thing's gonna be pretty pricey, it won't have to. All it will have to be is cheaper than the Zune and an improvement on the latest iPod, and the market's back to square one.

microsoft has the money that they can compete with the iPod I think. Especially after they work in the zune and xbox 360 compatibility.

If only it worked with a mac. I'd buy it right now.

I find it interesting how everyone thinks the ipod is untouchable.

The thing is, everything... whether it be a trend, product, civilization, technology, or even a small toshiba hard drive wrapped in plastic and steel.. eventually falls away into obscurity or non existance shortly after it reaches its most successful days.

There have been previous attempts to superceed the ipod. Lots have failed, bet eventually something new will come around and become the norm. This might be it, this might not.. but id give it a fair chance. Remember when the dreamcast came out? It failed in competing with the playstation. Remember when the xbox came out... it did not fail.

I remember when the xbox came out. It failed miserably for a while, and then built up a little steam, but never "took down" the PS2 which still had better sales numbers. If the 360 beats the ps3, it'll be because the latter is too expensive.

it doesnt matter if the Zune is better than the ipod, because a lot of MP3 players are better than ipods, its all about image and marketing.

The thing that has to happen to "destroy" the ipod is for a product to come out that is not nessaraly 10x better but similar. Im a long time apple buyer but if I saw a mp3 player that had all the same features but for 2/3 the price now thats what id buy. All that will happen with this is alot of of big show and then nothing will come of it, why? because they are trying to make something better when they havent even established something similar.
