The Zero Spin Hype

It has been brought o my attention, that the zero spin, is not as difficult as it is made out to be. I think there is a lot of hype abut how difficult the zero spin is, but in all seriousness, how many people do you see fall on them? I think they appear to be harder in the ski industry only because they have been made out to be, like 4 years ago. Things have cahnged since 4 years ago.

Now on the other hand, huge zero spins (and im not talking even 50-60, i mean lik at least 75+) can be very difficult, props to Andy Mahre, as well as taking zerospins to the bottom of the landing on a big jump, props to Lolo Favre.

Don't get me wrong, I think zero spins can lok sick and I will do them on occassion, but I do think that they are highly overrated, and this should be recognized in the ski industry.

These are my thoughts, What are yours?

Peace out, Napolean.

for sure. i think its more of a commitment thing. they are scary, but they are pretty easy to progress on. but like in the back country they are sick. or over hips.

word to that. Zeros are gnarly and need to be done more often in comps and shit. thats my opinion though

^did you not read what he just said? i agree, i started messing around doing those and they were pretty simple, but in the BC it would be sick

its just like any other trick in my opinion. at first, they might be difficult, perhaps more so than some spins, but once you get the hang of it, they can be very natural and done on practically any feature.

yeah, i think it's mostly a mental thing that makes zeroes difficult. They shouldn't be more difficult than taking off and landing switch with a spin, but for some reason they are.

I think it adds more variety to a bag of tricks then the usually switch spins. I think it really goes back to the big debate about switch 10s vs styled out tricks.

Zeros are deffinatly easy, but you feel accomplished when you drop a 55+ footer, in the bc i havent even tried but it has to be way fuckign hard.

BC zero's would be sick. but they have to be somewhat difficult otherwise every little guy who watches the rest of us go down the hill would be doing them.

Meh...

I have already moved past them.. I am all about the "switch reverse Zero spin".. some people keep tryin to tell me that I didn't invent it and its actually called a "straight air".. but they are just haters.

weee^

I actually think they are fun to do, but doing something like 50 or 75 feet sounds pretty scary to me. I 'd really like to see someone stick it off of a cliff..id be rowdy for sure!

they are just respected haeaps cause of the fact that u never have a full look of the landing. u can only see it out of one eye. i think its just a balance thing

yeah, i've been pulling the switch zero spin for a few seasons now, except i just started adding the no-handed safety grab.

not difficult but scary and hard to make them look very nice.....mike wilson in yearbook, those were some sweet zero's

wilson's so sick...what happened to him this season, is he around? I've been kinda out of the loop, but still haven't seen anything about him.

There not quite as difficult as they have been made out to be ..... but on anything over like 60 they get to be a pretty techy trick

i dont find them actually difficult to do theyre a lot of fun to do, i also think lolo and colby have the best zeros considering that colby guneaed that large keystone gap with one, i agree with ian's original thoughts

I do know what you mean about it not really being the most difficult trick out there.

As well, zeros are only cool if they are done HUGE. Massive jump, go big, done in BC, something like that.

I think that the actual mechanics of the trick are easy, but what is really hard is making it look really good. It's really hard to not flail at all in a zero, so when I see someone do one with complete absence of motion, and it's super big I think it looks dope.

Not a difficult trick, but making it look good makes it difficult.

who cares how hard or easy it is to do. it looks amazing when it's done right by people like laurent favre. and i'm sure it is pretty damn tough to make one look that good.

It was the first trick i learned, tho i am still scared before im doin a zero on huge jumps. Its a very nice trick when its done on huge jumps, I love it :)

they are pretty cool if you make them look good. i.e no rolling down the window and with a grab held as long as humanly possible.

My friend did fakie unnatural cork 720 in a big air comp and he lost to a zero spin. I was like WTF?!

i agree...i can do zeros with ease and people say that they are hard...try them a few times and just keep looking over your shoulder...thast the key...and u will have em 3rd try(or around there)

I like zeros, they are way hard. I have been doin them off cliffs and stuff lates and it fooken hard I tell ya. I don't ride park so I don't know how easy it is, but I have serious problem with them in the bc.

speaking of switch landing in bc I wanna see a switch backflip landed. In the freesking nationals somebody threw one off a cliff it looked sick but he didn't come close to landing it.

pretty sure your right with that, but only if your speaking english because double negatives are used in spanish

they are scary cause you cant spot your landing at least they way i do them

kunkling on a zero is the worst thing ever

How 'bout zero's in the pipe Cosco? They are fucking hard as hell. Busting a 10 foot zero out T-Rain style isn't in everyone's back pocket. I saw him do it at the VT Open....2 years ago and it was possibly the sickest thing ever. For anyone wondering, I am referring to a zero in the pipe as taking off switch, and landing switch.

That would be a switch 180 then wouldn't it? Anywho, I love zero spins because it's the only switch trick I know how to do as of now. So yeah, I think zero spins are wicked sick and techy if done off larger jumps and motionless with a grab.

no one ever said they werent cool...thats obviously a personal opinion....but i said that they are overrated....and i alsos aid that is till thinkt ehya re sick when done well
