The worst time of the year

I enjoy fall and the things that come with it. Colder air that refreshes you. The changing of the leaves. Different flavors. Putting on warmer clothes.

But as a skier - this is the absolute worst time of the year. I look at the dusting on mountains and get a little excited. But then it melts away and I’m very quickly reminded that it will be awhile before anything accumulates. This is one giant tease of a season.

I often remind myself of something I heard my first year in Tahoe: ”Winter doesn’t actually start until January 1st”.

Please advise on coping mechanisms. Thanks.

My coping mechanisms

-getting tricks down on tramp

-mtb

-putting on my ski gear and crying that there is still 2 months till skiing

Right after ski season ends is actually the worst time of the year for me. Ski season is close enough now that I can cope

I have touched up my edges more times than I can count

Nah after ski season I feel so refreshed and fulfilled. This time of year is when my tank goes to E

Mountain bike

skateboard

Volleyball

soccer

gym

road bike

ski movie premieres

basketball

hiking

But most importantly, practicing those camera skills to clip up the homies

Fr I go thru this super blaaaahh phase where none of my other hobbies satisfy, and I’m stuck binging ski videos and podcasts til I run out ?

it really is cruel having a late fall birthday while having all your homies have winter birthdays. I just want to go ski on my Bday one day without having to go skimo-nerd it.

Every now and then snowbird opens on my birthday

See that’s the problem I used to have, and I bought way more than necessary

I’ve started buying new gear, I can’t use it yet but it helps fill the void.

Well given I need new boots, skis, and goggles and just started a new job with some decent perks I think I have some room for error.

and worse case scenario I have a bunch of skis so oh well.

The final stage of ciggie addiction. Gave those up probably 10 years ago

It sucks cause a lot of outdoor activities cant be done in the snow like mountain biking. Part way through the summer im always thinking fuck yeah im so in shape for skiing! Then october comes and fucks it up. Im considering a gym membership for a month but i hate the gym so much lol.

Don’t you love this rain. Fall is officially here.

I don’t like the gym either

Oh there’s nothing wrong with too many skis, except it’s actually turned into “work” maintaining and keeping them ready for me. Then there’s choosing which ski to use for the day omg the delays that causes.

There’s def such a thing as too few skis

I get into a sort of decision paralysis with too many pairs. Inevitably, I often end up only using 2 pairs out of my quiver.

I would rather have 1-2 pairs of skis I knew I could always throw down on then a bunch of skis I feel kind of awkward skiing.

Ive literally thought the same thing for so long. Fall is a transition season and its just brown and gross where I live. But something I try to look forward to is around mid to end of october when it does stick on the mountains high up and hiking pvc in the woods.

Joining a frostbite sailing Laser fleet to do some winter racing but it's probably gonna cut into my ski season. I'll probably still ski the days it's too cold to sail tho. Also need to buy a new drysuit which is a PITA and I already just spent 2 grand on boat stuff.

Pffft I I'll take biking in snow over biking in mud any day. Just gotta dress right and ride the right trails.

Hey, at least here in Utah, October sometimes gives us a couple big storms to get out and tour. Could be only a handful of weeks away
