What do you think about this. there's many arguments for both sides.

i believe that the world would be relatively safer if everyone owned a gun. although i believe at the beginning of this there would be a drastic increase in violence i believe it would decrease over the years. not to mention rape, robbery, and assault would practically disappear.

What are your thoughts on this? don't turn this into a political shoot out like all the other threads

I don't consider living in constant fear of every single person you encounter to be "safer".

...think about how many people would stop speaking their minds, for fear that they could be shot? virtually no where you go you would be without the constant threat of violence

i think that violence would just increase, think about it: if everyone owned a gun their first reaction would be to use the damn thing. people would be getting shot left right and center.

compare it to this: say they changed the the drinking age in the US/Canada to lets say 15. this generation would probably go crazy and have a blast...but for the next generation it would just be the norm. i talked to a german girl and she said it's not even a big deal, and i think it would be the same as this. after a generation it would just be the norm that everyone has a gun

excuse me while I walk into this gas station.. my car for some reason ran out of gas in the worst part of town.. but to combat getting robbed/held up you'd have to walk around with your gun drawn and wearing bodyarmour. So if everyone owned a gun i think a lot more people would be shot. Cause the guys doing the robbery would have a gun and the guy gettin robbed would have a gun so someones bound to get shot and die. Nowadays when some people get robbed they dont have a gun and they're like "just take watever" and they both get out alive.

and with my last statement...the only reason that people kill is to prove something. most of the time it's some sort of vendetta, premeditated...very little is the case that there is a random shooting where innocent people are murdered. i'm not saying that that doesn't happen but it doesn't happen often. if there is a state of stalemate then the people who would get the gratification of murdering someone no longer feels that way. it doesn't really satisfy or prove a point like they truely want it to

I think that what would happen has already been proved due to the amount of gun deaths in the United States.

It's quite silly to think that having guns decreases violence. It increases paranoia and violence, and the ability to do serious harm.

In canada, you're always pretty sure that an attacker won't have a gun. So, fight happens and pissed off people beat each other senseless, and then their buddies break it up.

If there was guns, guys start shooting, buddies start shooting, and then all hell breaks loose.

People having guns is stupid.

take switzerland for example. every ,male itizen over a certain age is issued a gun by the government. switzerland has one of the lowest crime rates of any nation, and can someone tell me the last time switzerland was at war? yeah, no one has gone to war with them in quite some time.

I am all for the population having guns. With out guns, criminals would resort to other types of weapons to do what they want. Kinves, bows or crossbows, peices of wood with nails.... The amount of crime would not decrese with the elimination of guns from the public. There have been murders, rapes, roberies for thousands of years before the invention of the fully automatic pistol. The crimes being commited would infact become more savage and barbaric simply because of the tools which people would be forced to use.

But that is not the real issue of gun control. A well armed populas is the best defence to a tranical government. In the american constitution, it clearly states that if you dont like your government and you can do something about it, you have to do something about it. The poloticians know this. And they know that if there was to be a revolution, they last thing they want is to lose power. They would want their military to be able to quickly and painlessly stop any uprising, which becomes alot more difficult if the people still have weapons. Takeing weapons away from people is one of the first things that Hitler did when he was elected into power, because he understood this simple fact.

I dont remember who said it, but this is the relevant quote on the issue. "The best defense against a tranical government is a well armed population."

drinking in Europe is alot different then westernized North American drinking, we like to go hard, go party and get drunk. europeans like to have casual drinks and the occasional night. they much more civilzized and thats why they can handle a lower drinking age. as for the gun comment. your clinically insane. honest look at the USA is a pretty good example of carry a gun if you want too and fuck that shit is scary. not everywhere but in some places. In the city im from 1,000,000 people. theres not to many streets that you cant walk down. and the downtown core is fairly safe at 2am. its peace of mind when people cant carry guns.
