Most people have heard about the Mayan's theory that the world will end on December 21, 2012. What do you guys think? Will it happen?
 
HAHA.... one question if the mayans were so smart and could see the end of the world, than wouldnt they have seen the spanish when they first came over... really that was the end of the world for them....so...
 
go to the website noob, the mayans already got way farther than we are now, they were more efficient and had better technologies, but the cataclysm took over and they forgot it all. but some lucky few kept the some of the knowledge and felt they should pass the warning along. DUH[/sarcasm]

but seriously there have been a ton of predictions for the world ending, and it hasnt happened yet. plus, the site has a whole section dedicated to why unicorns and dragons are real, i mean come on

 
Well ill be 23, i might be in my last year of college, ill probably have experienced everything ill want to in my life by then other than having a family. Good thing the only reason it stopped 12/21/2012 is because they ran out of slate to write it on.

There is some scientific evidance that the Earth will expierence some kinda new "energy" because of it being aline with the sun on that date or something but it sounds to me like a theory. nothing more.
 
this is basedon a calendar that humans made up....humans have not been around long enough to predict this shit
 
I will be exactly 20 years and 20 days old, that would be kind of cool to live for 20 years and 20 days
 
This one is definitely the most convincing in my eyes though. Multiple things/people from multiple times in history all point to this singular day. I'm not saying I believe it, but it's just pretty ridiculous that so many things and people point to the same day in the future. That'd be one huge ass coincidence.
 
i really hope it doesn't end then, i won't even get christmas presents and the ski season will be just starting here on the ice coast
 
I've seen a doucumentary on the mayan calandar and all this stuff. People don't realize that the world isn't going to end, it's just supposed to go through some sort of shift or change or something.

Which is alot more believeable to me, seeing as how the Earth is overdue for it's magnetic shift thing. (Real science right there, the Earth's poles shift every few thousand years, so north will shift to south and south will shift to north)
 
No, just all the compasses in the world will poit the wrong way.

Actually right now the north pole is really magnetic south, and the south pole is magnetic north.
 
lets just straighten things out

1. its actualy MAYA no n at the end. very common mispronunciation

2. the maya calender ends because that was about the time that the mayas believed to have abandoned their cities and spread throughout mexico.

many people assimilate that the end of their calender means the end of the world. but who really knows..
 
just one more thing

the spanish never conquered the Maya's. they slaughtered the Aztecs but by then the maya's were already taken over by another indian tribe, the totlec who traveled south. this tribe was the one that brought the sacraficial practice into the Maya's life style. before that Maya's were simple traders.
 
no no no it wont end necessarily what it is is the end of their "age of the 5th sun" and the beguinning of the 6th so whatever that means also i remember something about some division of this time into like baktons or somethign and its the end of those as well completelyis whats up 10:24 am is the reckoning itll be cool to see what really happens because theyve sniped out everything else cool shit if you ask me
 
the mayas died out anyways why believe their calender they obviously missed something considering they are extinct.
 
the mayans actually did some crazy shit, those pyraminds are like 3,000 tons each and made out of huge blocks or something, my architecture teacher showed us a movie about that, and the pyramids and so on...but i dount the world will end in 2012, i think people need to determine an end so what they are doing seems somehow significant, how that relates to the mayan civilization, i dont really know...lol
 
hell if you really think its going to end why dont you end your life now? whats the point of living a few more years where it obviously wont matter to anyone?

There were several ancient cultures that point to that date, however I dont think they mean literally the end of the world; as in armageddon. Rather the end of the world as we know it. Perhaps a polar shift, or ice age. Something. I'm not convinced, but I'll say that I wont be surprised if something does happen. I'm actually kind of excited. this world could use some change.
 
no no no. the mayas did not die out. we dont know what happened to them after they abandoned their cities or why they left, but around the 1930's and 1940s there began a revolt against the spanish. the revolt was held by who? oh yes the still existant MAYAS. they were rebels and they were rebelling against spanish rule on what they believe was their land, which it was. infsct the area that the mayas inhabited was never fully conquered by the spanish although mexico is now spanish speaking with an exception of the maya dialects still in use.
