Hey, up on thw glacier, how long does it take to get to the windlip? this summer does anyone plan on goin up and building a kicker. We'll just be cruisin the public park, which can get sorta boring, so i wanna go up there and build a kicker? Any risk involved as far a gettin passes pulled? Well, if any one has done this share yer experiences, and if anyone wants to this summer i think we should. i will be there from around the 8th to about the 23rd er sumthin.

The windlip is about a 5-10 min hike from the top of the sms/hn tow. If your american and you get to hurt on it to get yourself out, you will be fucked royally, because your out of bounds it means you need to pay for everything yourself, whether it be heli ride out, ski patrollers bringing you out, groomers bringing you down the hill... so basically don't screw yourself up out there. The windlip is a crazy place, but i've seen kids get royally fucked up there. A kid I was with when we built ended up breaking his back on our step up the last hit of the day, they had to keep all the lifts open for an extra hour or so so they could get this kid down.

If anyone here was with me how did he end up? \

Also, there are always a shit ton of jumps already built there, but bring shovels because they will at least need a little maintenance or you may end up building your own. Good luck.

all i know is the 1st double misty was done on the windlip by adam finerty (sp). it was a mega huge kicker

it doenst matter if your american or not, you are out of bounds, and thus you have to pay for rescue. its not as if canadian health care covers that.

i know a guy who was trying switch flat 9s a couple years ago on the windlip and he landed weird and blew both is knees and he roleld tot he bottom, he had to give 2 patrols all of his gear which was brand new k2s and a whoel bunch of shit, he had to give this to them jsut to carry him out, because otherwise he would have needed a helicopter

depending on how high the kicker was, i guess it could be either if you designed it right, i was thinking like going 20 or so feet down the left side of it

I remember in the first season of FreeSkier magazine they were talking about that. Some guy launched off of it going like 60 mph and flew for over 4 seconds.

well lets see here, considering the conditions have probably changed since then and im not there i honestly couldnt tell u. yr judging the firmeness of the landing fro ma picture that was probably taken at least a year ago, good one. but even if it is firm the landing is damn steep so u have nothing to worry about

i checked it out when i was at high north, but i already had so many other nice jumps to hit i didnt really care about it...

but since the public park is gonna suck, im definatly gonna head in there

well if you built one on the drop in you could have a fuckin 150ft gap or bigger.....prolly 200......thatd be so sick to hit that windlip...something lke that is what ive always dreamed abo;ut

for our step up we had to make the inrun all the way to the top of the right wall and tuck it the entire way down, it was pretty ridiculous.

i went out there 3 years ago, it was intense...the landing is steep, and it took me forever to hike it

my brother did a d 9 and just ate shit, it was hilarious

i dont understand how a step up works from looking at that picture. If you drop in from the higher wall on the right side of the pic going toward the lip, you're going at a downslope. Where's the step UP?

 
well, if you look at the big thing at the left how it looks like a kicker/wall. just build a kicker in front of it. and hey does anyone have pics of stuff they built up there. i saw some really killer ones on this site awhile back. they were in the summe.r

Blowhole is a huge halfpipe shaped trail that is between the windlip and the glacier lanes, and a step up works because you build the jump at the lowest point before the windlip begins to rise again. We had something like a 30 ft step up and a huge gap, like 60 or so, I could be makin gnumbers up though it was awhile ago. Lemme see if I have any old pics of the windlip i can throw up.

Is the windlip on the blackcomb glacier, but a short hike above the 2nd t-bar on the public part of the glacier (the t-bar that is a little higher up than the crowded main one)? I went to the glacier in the summer a while ago, but with a race camp (Brown and Brown, represent!), so we really just skied gates and Hollywood cirque. I skied there in the winter once too, and I think I skied the windlip on a heinously foggy day, so I'm a little disoriented...

Just get a sled and bring some buddies. If you whack yourself, just have your friends dump your broken carcass in the sled and push you down the mountain to the inbounds area where you can tell the patrol you hurt yourself in the pub park. Much cheaper than a heli.
