The Wii "U"

Not exited about it. watching the E3 announcement right now, and its the same thing specs wise that Sony released yesterday but it is not meant to be a hand held device away from the wii. just doesn't make sense. thoughts?

Its gonna be a beast.

"Nintendo is teaming up with AMD to develop a graphics chip for its next system, which will essentially be a proprietary version of the R700 architecture. It’s CPU will be coming from IBM. Custom built and sporting three cores, this powerhouse will be unstoppable."

Meh. Same old E3 shit. Just with a new device. Just rehashes and remakes. It kind of sucked this year. I'm really only looking foward to skyrim and battlefield 3.

it has potential for a divice especially with the game developers that are hoping on board. This is only the beginning stages of it. im not super impressed right now but soon i think this will be pretty cool.

The new controller thing looks fucking awesome, but I'm not gonna get it Xbox and PS3 with their online reputations are still gonna blow Wii U out of the water.

Some shots of the hardware.

pretty confused about that cd reader. is that what the u is run from? or are the games going to come from a wii?

I can only imagine that Nintendo will release DVD style discs (like the Wii). I can also see them being backwards compatible with Wii discs. There will probably be an online store, like the current Wii one, where you can purchase games from the Wii, GCube, NES, SNES, etc...

Like when playing baseball you use the hand held screen to pitch and catch and then follow it on the big screen. It is kinda confusing, but pretty sick.

holy fuck. the N64 was perfectly fine for all our gaming needs. why do you have to make everything so complicated. there are so many variables in gaming now. fucking mosion sensing touch screens. im going to get conused. what the fuck seriously.
fuck you nintendo. fuck you.

But the R700 is like a Radeon HD 4890.. Which came out in 2008. Most processors i3, i5, i7 and Phenom II X4 processors have 4 cores. A couple even have 6 cores (i7 extreme 980x and Phenom II X6). Unstoppable? Powerhouse? Not even close.

Lulz..Thinking CPUs and video game consoles need the same amount of ram/processing power to achieve the same performances.

A computer has to do a whole bunch of shit include play games and support an entire OS and has to dedicate RAM to other processes. Where a video game console has to...play video games and do some other things that aren't nearly as complicated as the things people use PCs for.

The Wii U isn't going to come anywhere close though. OS' unless you are talking vista don't take up much ram at all. Sure you have things in the background running but it doesn't amount to a whole lot unless you have useless programs that constantly run. Sure a video game console has less to run but it still has to run things in the background.
I didn't really want to get into that though. I was just saying that if they really wanted to be a "powerhouse" why not go for the best? 6-core and at least 2gb of dedicated graphics processing ram.

Probably because that shit is still expensive and they want to keep console prices down and are probably fairly happy with the graphics capability.

Ok well I can see how 6-core is pushing it. But at least a quad would be nice and a better GPU wouldn't push up costs by a whole lot. I know I would be happier with that.
Changing the subject the tablet looks like crap if you have to hold if your a while. I just think that it's an alright idea that should have stayed as an idea.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA who the fuck knows so damn much about techie stuff? I swear some people join NS just to talk about shit

Well I had no idea what an R700 was until today- I knew what the 4000 series was though, google is a wonderful thing. I knew about processors and their cores though.
Play computer games, build computers for those computer games. Stuff is pretty easy and not overly tricky at all.

Whatever happened to just kicking back and playing video games? I don't want an ipad for a controller and I don't want to have to dance around my living in order to play a game.

Oh my God you like know stuff about other stuff that isn't skiing..it's like you have another hobby you have in the off season..Jesus Christ I had no idea people talked about non skiing shit in Non-Ski Gabber.

Aka...Fuck you.

As said, this isn't a computer I don't need you to read off specs you found on google. Running the stuff they have its still better than the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Which for a Wii console is a pretty big thing considering the last system wasn't even HD. So as a purely gaming console I think it had plenty of potential. Bumping up the GPU and adding another core would change the price much more than you would think, especially if Nintendo is trying to keep their lower price point.
