The Wallisch Project

I was pretty disappointed with Kyle Decker's filming. Cinematography wise I was constantly thinking "why would you chose that angle? why didn't you have a close up or a follow cam here?"

Tom was sick though. I just have a problem with Kyle Decker's style. What did you guys think

Usually you shouldn't make a thread bashing someones filming style especially on NS. That's not cool.

Unless it's Kanye. Bash away.

Totally disagree. Look at level 1s shit sense decker left. A big step down from the past for sure.

kid, in two years the sammy C project will come out. I thought I'd give you a heads up because you're living in the past

The filming is indeed not perfect, but it's still really good. And the dificulty of some of the rails in the movie is extreme

You just gave me a reason to watch it once again. There are no words to describe how wrong you are.

i think his filming is a little bland but it's also reliable in that way, you know he's not going to blow a shot by going overboard with some artsy fartsy angle, they're usually just straight up shots with safe angles

I only watched TWP once so cant comment on it. However when you're filming alone, like was said before me you have to get the shot. While its great to have the flexibility to get artsy fartsy, to do that you need 2 filmers: A cam gets the safe shot and B cam can get artsy wit it.

Filming a project like that by yourself is no easy task so I think this thread is unwarranted. If he had a second filmer with him though, thats a different story

your a fool for many many reasons,

1) not everyone is homosexual and needs to see up the skiers butt when they ride (Warren miller)

2) Decker probably does more in 3 days then you've done all year on ALL major levels of sociological, spiritual and emotional life.

3) In an industry like this one, the ability for him and twall to make the movie for two years basically on their own was arguably unprecedented.

4) Every piece of art can be better, most of us learned this in 2nd or 3rd grade, depending on our learning speed.

If you were worth the time I would spend more of it.

Considering he didn't have an entire crew in tow (as far as I know), you're totally right. If you're filming with 3 or 4 cameras and angles, if you're trying something funky with one angle and it gets messed up, all is not lost. That's not true for a single camera film crew

could have included a bit more stair-skiing to show that wallisch really has all aspects of the sport dialed

Obviously Kyle didn't film every shot by himself. There are like 7 other people credited for videography in the.. credits

Phil Casabon's keynote Skier was the best single skier movie ever made in skiing. No one can touch the level he's at even with his super raw home made edit quality. Original and entertaining in every way others aren't.
