The Venus Flytrap

I was just flipping through some old issues of Freeze and I was thinking, "Man, somebody should bring this trick back in pipe." I haven't seen anyone do it since Wilson went huge and decked out at that QP comp back East a few years ago.

For those whose balls don't hang low enough to remember the Venus Flytrap, pioneered by Toben Sutherland: flair to front flip on a QP. Never actually seen one done in a halfpipe...

Nice call!! I remember that from Parental Advisory and the WSSC or whatever it was called like 10 years ago or something. That trick was soo money, and Toben Sutherland had that shit on lock, it looked a million times better than the "whiskey flip". Someone nowadays should totally get on learning that.

oh shit! i remember that, from John Symms. he did a double boot grab, but what was the rotation?

Toben Sutherland KILLED that trick multiple times in Parental Advisory. So so sick. I can do them on my diving board and trampoline but no where near close on skis.

it can be thrown with about 10 ft of vert and some serious commitment. I've never had the balls to do one.

TOBEN FTW

he's the coolest guy ever, we should totally bring back the venus fly trap flip, and all that jazz

I remember the first time I saw Toben do one of these. I was back in 7th or 8th grade (I'm a college grad now). 13 had just come out. Totally opened my eyes. I wanted to be like Vinne D so bad, I just loved everything about his style.

Shit I used to listen to "Lady Venom" and "DaRockwilder" all day long and wish I could do 180 mutes like Vinnie did. I also used to listen to "RockSuperstar" and I wanted to do Philou's rodeo 5's. Then I went to ski camp at SMS Camp and I met Vinnie and Philou and I realized that those two were not only rad skiers, but probably two of the funniest dudes ever, particularly when around eachother ahaha, they were ridiculous.

Didn't the Schwab Brothers do them at the US Open Big Air in 2000? They were sick, taking them sooo deep.

toben at his finest

i told him about that video and he just laughed about it, i wish he would throw just one more.

I could totally imagine Dumont learning this trick. Imagine Dumont doing Venus Flytrap first hit like 20+ feet out. Saucy.

i remember watching Wilson eat shittt at the VT Open on the QP when he tried it. dude is nuts.
but yeah such a sick trick

travis steeger did one of these off a 60 foot cliff, but like switch backflip 180 to frontfilp so same thing sort of
