The USA shot down Iranian Airliner killing all 290 civilians onboard

i used to have some faith in america. while a lot of fucked up shit goes on there, a lot of great stuff happens as well and i genuinely believed that the good was close enough to balancing out the bad. then i came to this thread. it's got nothing to do with the actual disaster (it was a mistake, a terrible one, but a mistake that can be gotten around, though the fact that the US has never taken responsibility or apologized is rather depressing). but almost the entire first page of responses, whether serious, joking, sarcastic or otherwise, just disgust me. i've seen a lot of ignorance, a lot of bad people saying stupid things on this site, but this thread was the straw that broke the camels back. your country can go on succeeding, failing, dividing, uniting, winning, losing, whatever, i don't care anymore, i just don't want to continue witnessing how truly fucked in the head way too many of you people are.

can please anyone read the wiki article on that thing before talking complete and utter horseshit?

and i seriously am a big fan of the US. i am just not a big fan of people (especially in this thread) that think they are cool when they disregard history, especially painful history. that act like muslims are people of second class. i hate those people, no matter which country they are from. but obviously on NS, you interact more with americans than with iraqis or people from indonesia or whatever, so some people have a wrong impression.

but its actually a nice way to have a discussion. "you simply hate america" is a very educated argument.

then go look in this thread. people straight up negating history and building a wrong opinion. there should be a debate why this topic is so sensible that noone is having a straight forward and honest discussion about it.

Oh shut the fuck up. There's nothing to discuss. There was no question, just the OP stirring the "I hate America" pot like a douche.

But I guess you just love to hear yourself bitch about stuff, so have at it dood. I guess everyone should take shitty troll threads about shit that happened over a quarter century ago as seriously as you do.

37 servicemen dying for their country is better than 290 civilians dying innocently because the navy took a chance. sorry im not trying to argue just get my point across.

haven't something like 50,000 civilians been murdered in Syria in the last 2 years? i wish someone would give a fuck about that.

Definitely isn't the first. The soviets actually shot down more Korean Airlines planes than the united states has shot down total.

Your case is TWA800, which is mysterious, but the missile theory really isn't the frontrunner. I actually remember when it happened, because I was little and the NTSB animation of the crash scared the hell out of me

BEFORE YOU ACT LIKE YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED, YOU MIGHT WANT TO ACTUALLY BE KNOWLEDGEABLE.

1)"The Iranian aircraft had changed course to approach the conflict quickly, and was reducing altitude, which is exactly what an attacking fighter would do."

Wrong, the video determines that the jet was actually never descending, rather ascending, yet a crew member couldn't fucking read a screen apparently. Additionally, no the aircraft did not change course, it was on a commercial airline course in IRANIAN AIR/WATER TERRITORY. The Vincennes had crossed into Iranian airspace in pursuit of the gun boats.

2)"The Iranian aircraft was broadcasting an IFF code consistent with an F-14 fighter jet which 100% could sink the Vincennes. "

Wrong, the completely idiotic, incapable, fucktards were scanning for IFF codes past the commercial jet. The F-14 IFF code did indeed come from an F-14....that was on a airbase far inland. The commercial jet was broadcasting the correct IFF code, yet the dumbasses on board the Vincennes didn't know how to use their multi-million dollar technology to scan the correct range.

3)"Basically, all the warning signs were there. Even though there was some confusion over the IFF code on the fighter, this was not a good reason not to fire. That would be like putting a gun to your head and pulling the trigger, not knowing if it was a live bullet or a blank."

No, this situation is like someone walking in to a store with their hand in their pocket and the store clerk shooting them with a fucking 12-gauge from point blank after yelling at them in another language. The commercial jet was never identified correctly by the Vincennes, and it was never contacted correctly.

I'm convinced the crew members involved in this decision had a cumulative IQ of a sugar ant.

Fucking dumbass kid trying to defend America.

Also, the Iranian Airbus was following a recognized air route, on a scheduled flight. The US Navy had the flight schedules for the area, but they were confused by the different time zone.

Can our government apologize for things like this? and diffuse Iran and every country that is mad at us?

All it takes is apology's and trying your best in the future not not fuck with people?

yeah we immediatly gave money to all the affected families.

It was a mistake, but a defensible one.

If i had the option of killing 100 people or letting my best friend die, i would kill 100 faceless people. Thats basically the thinking that led to this teagedy.

I agree with you on all this except for the gun to head anology, that would be a time not to pull the trigger.

I know that you fucking dumbass...
