The unofficial "help me buy a dirt bike" thread

NS is the only forum of any kind I am a part of so here I am asking you all for advice on a completely opposite sport.

Anyways, I used to race motocross as a youngin' but haven't ridden for years. My budget is around $3,000 and I'm most interested in a 250f (yes, I am aware used 4-strokes are sketchy), but a nice 125 is also an option.

What do you think about this: https://youngstown.craigslist.org/mcy/5165667890.html

2007 KTM 250 SX-F, original owner, claims 10-12 hours on the bike, appears clean, nice garage so not some sketchy redneck. The catch is that it has not been ridden in two years. I have no problem cleaning the carb and bleeding brakes, but are there any other risks associated with a bike sitting idle for that long? That also means I won't be able to start it and test ride it when I go take a look. The asking price for that low of hours though...

sounds sketchy..who owns a bike like that and doesnt even start it for 2 years? probably something up

I used to have two KTM's that sat in my basement for years going un-started. Nothing was wrong with them except they were loud and my neighbors were pricks.

KTM's are the tit. I'd get one if I had the opportunity. Can't beat Austrian engineering.

Or try and find those Canondale's made a while back, fucking majestic.

I personally have never fucked with KTMS, 07 suszuki rm250f's and the same in kawasaki are both great bikes around those years.. The yamahas are good i would stay away from honda myself. I think Kawi, suzuki and yamaha are the most reliable and you'll find some super modded out bike from 06-08 for around 3k on kijiji

I havent road my dirtbike in over 3. The dude probably lost the time to ride it and before you know it a couple years go by and you realize you dont have a need for it anymore.

Id say go and check it out and start it up and everything make sure its mechanically sound..if you dig it then buy it!

Ktm's are lit man

KTM's are great, don't worry about a guy not riding it in years, happens to us all. Check for wear in the usual spots if you don't trust him.

Don't buy a 125 whatever you do, if you get a 2 banger, get a 250. And if not KTM I suggest Honda.
