The United States Is Not A Democracy.

The United States Is Not A Democracy, it is a Federal constitutional republic. This explains why the electoral college system is in place, because we elect officals to make decisions for us. Thank you for your time.

It's a form of democracy, but not a free democracy like you think about in greek society (yes I know slaves and plebes couldnt vote but other than them).

So yes, it IS a democracy but its also a republic.

Like it fucking matters. We all just vote for whoever is associated with our political parties. Might as well have trained dogs become citizens to get the voter count up.

not saying ur dumb but u can vote for who ever u tink is right and if u only vote for those of ur party wow thats just retarded

Oh yeah? I can bet you a thousand bucks that well over a majority of Americans don't have the slightest on who to vote for. They only vote for whoever is in their political party... just like trained dogs.

that is one cheertastic post. and i can't believe i've actually seen that movie...a little embarassing.

true democracy can never exist, it would be far to impractical and decisions would never get made, not in our day n age anyways, far to many people. every person would have to be an informed voter. (one would assume this to be an impossibility in the US)

orveriously you have no clue you fuckin bitch th amearcian staste s fuckin bklwos my balls my balls and that;sa bout nit my balls

Thankyou, Im a very stong liberal but if there is some dumb ass democrat he aint gettin my vote

It is a representative democracy. In a true democracy, every single person would be in direct participation in the government.

good points but i had to do it

There are more than two political parties fyi. If he doesn't like the democrat, he may vote for an independent or green party candidate. And also, your point really doesn't make that much sense because when you say "they will vote for their own political party", a good percentage of Americans don't associate with any party, either because they are clueless, uninformed, or have different opinions on several different issues. So......your conclusion is falsely drawn.

No it's not. If you had any idea. Go ask around, I can safely say that the majority of people that vote, do so only because they are a part of their political party. You're just wishful thinking there buddy.

skiierman i respect you but that is just a giant assumption. Majority of people you know really means nothing....while i agree with you somewhat, you're overlooking the fact that LOTS of people are completely ISSUE based voters. If some hard-core pro-choice republican was running against some evangelical pro-life democrat, be assured TONS of people will totally abandon any previous notion of their political parties and vote for the candidate that supports the issues they are most passionate about.

Over time, certain precedents have developed where repubs are typically crazy god loving anti-abortion maniacs, and similar problems for democrats. So, when deciding which party you support, the deciding factors are the issues they support. What i'm trying to say is that people are tied to the ISSUES, not the PARTY.

What I'm saying is that a large majority of Americans are ignorant. They are ignorant to the issues. How many people do you know that watch the debates or conversations with candidates... any of that?

I agree with the ignorance statement, and the fact that its easiest for ignorant people to simply associate themselves with a particular political party. But, a lot of people, in the south for example, will blindly vote for whichever candidate is most pro-jesus, pro-choice...no matter what their party might be, EVEN THOUGH those stances are often tied to a single party.

That how our democracy works, coz as the other kid said in the thread. If we put all the decision in the hands of the ppl, no decision could be made. Because it could never make a free choice!! Thats why we choose ppl so that they can make the decisions. And if everyone believed in democracy, then there also wouldnt be any strikes against the government. coz if you believed in it, then you wouldnt argue it.

as i said earlier in the thread, my town is truely a democracy. and last time i checked, i live in the US, soooooo your wrong

Hell, it's just what they THINK is there party. People that say "im republican" but don't know jack shit
