The Twins

After that god awful 'april fools joke' of a start to the season, twins have been winning some games. I live in salt lake and cant really watch em( no money for mlb.tv). I know the recent lineup has pretty much been a minor league team, but how have they looked? i only see a few highlights. Let me know your opinions on the twinks and their chances this year.

p.s. ~ Canucks can eat a fat one

Well over half their main starters are on the DL. -Kubel sprained his left ankle & expected back sometime in mid june

-Mauer has leg weakness, & expected back next week

-Mourneau's wrist is sore and he's playing on and off

-Nathan's having elbow pain again

-Nishioka had a fracture in his ankle the first week (which you obviously probably know already) but he should be back before July

-Thome strained his left quad, back late june

-Span had a concussion and was placed on 7-day DL

-Perkins & Slowey should be back eventually also

They've actually been playing really well against the Rangers, for mostly newbies, things aren't too bad lately. I highly doubt they're going to make anything out of their season but their definitely showing improvement. Liriano had a no-hitter (& perfect game I believe) going through the 7th inning today. They've won 9/11 of their last games, as of now they're 9 games back and .400. NOT THE WORST TEAM AVG. IN THE MLB!!!!!!!

We play Chigago (sox) next and no matter how much we suck they're usually worse, so it's very possible we could make a comeback this season once our team gets healthy again

Funny article from the Onion about The Cleveland Indians:

"Cleveland Enters Second Month Of Complete Silence So As Not To Jinx Indians"

CLEVELAND—The entire population of Cleveland continued its two-month-long silent streak Saturday, opting to remain completely still so as not to ruin hope for the Indians, who are off to their best start in five years. “Ssshh,” superstitious Indians fan Lindsay Berowski told reporters while placing her index finger over her lips and shaking her head briskly. When asked for further comments about the team’s impressive record, Berowski located a pen and paper and wrote, “Be quiet and please leave.” According to sources, many are blaming Wednesday’s 14-2 loss to the Red Sox on Cleveland resident Paul Eutsey, who recently rose from the chair he had been sitting in for the past month to clean off the dried urine and fecal matter that had caked itself all over his body.

As of lately they've been looking really good. Everyones been stepping up. Luke Hughes, Rene Rivera, and Ben Revere have started to make an impact. Also Alexi Casilla and Michael Cuddyer who were playing like absolute shit earlier have been playing really well. Cuddyer went 6-11 against Texas with 5 rbi's. Pitching has also been really good, Baker and Liriano both took a no hitter to the 7th and the bullpen finally stepped up. If we keep playing like we have been I think we have a real good shot at making the playoffs. We're only 9 games out and have something ridiculous like 36 of our next 39 games at home.

They are on fire right now, all the guys that are filling in have gotten comfortable and are playing great...Ben Revere is a stud...and will not be sent back down, so he will be in either left or right when span is healthy, and shit you could even move Span to left or right and keep Revere in center.
Casilla has stepped up big, but is still on the edge of losing his spot, nishioka and mauer could be back up by the end of the week which would put nishi at shortstop and bump casilla to second, but if he slips up cuddy will take over 2 bag.
Im really hoping that now we are on this roll we call up Kyle Gibson soon (our star prospect in AAA ball) and get him into the starting rotation....and maybe even make a trade at the deadline for some bullpen help...Im thinking either Delmon or Kubel will be traded.
The Twins still have a legitimate chance, and I believe they are the best team in the central still...clevland will fall to atleast 500 before the all star break and I can see the twins in second place by the break.

Thats funny you say Revere won't get sent back down. Pioneer Press today had him on the front page of the sports section with a headline something along the lines of "Odd Man Out". It is going to be very tough to keep him up for the entire season. Next year when Kid Cudy is gone, he will be around. Hopefully alongside Aaron Hicks and the other OF we got on the way up.

Second place by the break is a long shot. Kyle Gibson better be a stud!! If he is what they are saying he is, he will make a major difference.

Kubel won't get traded. I don't see that happening. If anything I think we should try to get rid of Cuddyer. We won't resign him I don't think so it would be nice to get all we can for him.

Keep in mind that we are still 13 games under .500, meaning that a 20 game winning streak may or may not even put us up into the top of the division. Lots of work to be done still, and we need to play like .800 baseball for a while longer to even stay close. That being said, the Twins are too good of a team to be the very worst team in baseball and I think most everyone knew that. My prediction is a second place finish in the division to Detroit most likely. Being 10 games down at this point in the year is not insurmountable at all but I just don't think the team has anything in them to put a championship run together this year. My backup prediction would be getting swept by the Yankees in the first round, which would be a huge shock to everyone. It is highly impressive that we've gone on this winning streak with 2/3 of the lineup being minor league players, but that's what you have to do when over half the team decides to take a month off due to a scraped knee. It is almost inconcievable the injury problems the Twins have had this year, and they are by far the most injury-ridden team I have ever seen. You can't expect to win with a minor league team playing up, but the Twins are a better organization than most so it would be great to see them make a run despite the ridiculous situation the first half of this season has turned out to be.

Thanks for all the great replies. I have been hearing about revere. Hopefully we allow him to keep proving himself. and casilla has always been a player that pisses me off, but i have seen him getting a lot of hits and clutch ribbies. Cleveland finally got off cloud 9 and is playing how they should. i was able to watch twins vs rangers a couple times, the twins really impressed me. We'll just have to see how it goes. I think you guys are right that we can get .500 before break. But everyoe on detroit is hittin the ball like a beach ball right now, i doubt that can continue but they will still be near the top all season. Its getting very interesting. Go twins !!!!

See I think it makes sense to trade Kubel because he is on his contract year as well...if he continues to play well we risk losing him for nothing or trading him for at least an arm in the bullpen.

I really hope revere stays, that guy has huge potential...I just wish he had a bit better arm.

I totally agree with this, I normally would have rooted against Vancouver, but i've never been able to cheer for boston. (except sox over yankees.)

Word. I don't know how I feel about getting rid of Kubel...I know he probably has the most value right now...but is that a bat you really wanna get rid of? I mean we got a couple studs coming up right now for OF.

Screw it! Lets get rid of the entire OF minus Span. Span, Hicks and Revere out there! That is some serious speed.

i cant ever like the canucks. its ohlunds fault for breaking koivu's leg. they are forever shunned. boston does get annoying though. how the hell can they afford all these teams to be stacked? and to be honest i wasnt really cheering for anyone these playoffs, except whoever played vancouver

Stoked on another win! Hopefully we can keep it rolling! Nishioka's played really well in his first two games and I'm glad to see him back! And holy shit our starting pitching has been lights out. I also have second row seats down right behind first base tomorrow! Stoked!

That will be the outfield soon enough...i really don't think you'll have to wait to long to see it.

Man they would be able to run down any ball in the gap.
