First of all horrible analogy, secod you assume because someone can't make a "proper" turn they are out of control, which is not the case for many non-racer background skiers, if it was there would be a large number of collisions in the park. Once again to reiterate, what Henrick said is all too true, but why does he need to discriminate and make people feel bad, why does he have to hate, obviously he isn't a very chill person.

"Hate" is a pretty harsh word and I don't think he is saying he hates anyone, he is just pointing out the obvious fact that some (not all) park skiers can't buy a turn to save their lives.

You guys are all right that skiing is about having fun, no matter if you are dropping big faces in AK or skiing on a green run in New Jersey.

If you are happy with making crappy turns and never really learning how to carve a ski, well then more power to ya!

 
im just gonna say park is about jumps and rails, nothing inbetween the two, big mountain or whatever is about carving. people who are good at big mountain people can suck at rails and spins, and park peaople can suck at nig mountain. wierd how that happens

i think it kinda comes down to being in control. i dont care who you are or what pro you are bombing a diamond switch is NOT in control. while many may be able to stay in control without "proper" technique they will falter. You are not the only person on the hill and when you endanger those around you that is NOT cool, even if you are the almighty tanner hall or whatever pro is your fav.

some racers may be assholes but guess what so are many park rats. there are cool racers in fact a lot more than you may think and there are a lot more asshole park rats than you may admit.

i started skiing taking lessons, after i was able to parallel turn i hit the park and didnt really come out except for moguls. then i hit high school and joined the race team. i improved so much from just my first season. i didnt improve on just skiing all mountain and speed but in the park to. racing raised my game in the park 200% and it improved my confidence to be able to ski wherever whenever whatever the circumstances.

i think people will figure it out. eventually, like snowboarding, people will find their own niches within the sport. there'll be jibbers, and big mountain riders like there are now, but the truly best will have the full package. skiing needs a terje haakonsen.

Funny.. my racer goes bigger better air than his brother who is a park rat. My racer beats his freestyle brother in skier cross every time. My freestyler has the nasty attitude, the racer is chill. - It's all good and it all really doesn't matter because they have so much fun just skiing!!!

to each his own indeed.i think when kids learn how to race first they get structure beaten into them.then they can either keep on racing or start snowboarding or park skiing.and normally kids who race arnt into it half as much as their dads are.so if they quit,its actually building character by going against the grain

I just have to say one thing to the park rats that cant acctually ski. You have little to no chance of getting big in the industry. Your not gonna get good video segments if you can't ski its that simple. Your gonna have a way harder time landing tricks and contolling your takeoffs. And you may break your neck on the way to the park who knows?

Didn't the US basketball team just lose a bunch of games because of exactly what your ficticous Larry Birdsaid? I am pretty sure they did, so maybe Larry should actually say that.

The biggest problem with people that only learn how to turn enought to get to the park is safety. They are the ones that have a much higher chance of injuring themselves, especially on the bigger jumps. If there are lots of injuries, the big jumps will be taken down by the lawyers.

Look at that MTV Made with the snowboard girl. They sent the completely wrong message by getting to turn just barley enough to get to the box.

The more people that learn and ski/board like that, the more injuries there will be. That will put terrain parks on the chopping block at many areas.

These "kids" are having fun. Isn't that the what skiing is about? If Henrik wants to be so high and mighty as to put down kids that arent as good as he is, or say that he is better at skiing away from BC jumps than "most of the pros out there", then let him. If a kid wants to hang in the park all day, and that's what skiing is for them, that's great. That is what makes skiing what it is: deciding how you want to do it, you're not on a team, you don't have to do anything. You can ski, without people judging you for doing something wrong. All these people that decide to criticize on others who "can't ski" need to get off their high horse and realize that skiing is about fun, not who is the best. Whew.

Actually backcountry skiing is reasonable to get into. You just have to live somewhere halfway decent and be willing to hike. Harlem to park skiing thats retarded.

ya man, like where i ski, if u dont ride park, there is nothing else to ride thats worth it...i dont mind actual skiing from the odd time, but i ski east coast skiing, so its almost 0 powder for me and all ice and park conditions...

i ski park becasue its what i love to do....i am there almost every day of the week in my semi-short ski season becasue i love the sport and i love to have fun and chill with my friends on the hill...im in it for the fun and the experience....i can still do normal skiing decently, becasue thats what i started as...as average skier.im not going to try to be something im not and start doing perfect carves and do extreme knee extensions becasue thats not who i am as a skier.

people need to stop hating us park rats becasue they think that we are no good becasue we dont ski powder runs and big mountain including cliffs...well im sorry but where i am i dont have that lugsery and freedom on the hill...so i have to put up with kids in leashes attached to there parents, and chinease people that come baraling down the hill and run over my brand new chronics after i busted my damn ass for the WHOLE AND I MEAN WHOLE summer to afford them....so dont give me this shit that park skiers and no good to the sport and that we cant do anything else...
