The truth about GAS PRICES !!!

The bare bones truth is this...Oil companies are making a profit of about $.15/gallon, the gas station is making a profit of about $.06/gallon (they make money on red bulls and snickers) and here is the kicker, your state and federal government are making $.60/gallon (through sales and gas taxes, this is in CA, it could be higher or lower where you live).

This really sucks. I just want everyone to know where your money is going. I sure don't see better freeways and bridges from that gas tax either. GET MAD and send a letter, go protest at your capitol...but don't blame big oil companies. If the tree-hugging democraps would let them build more refineries, we would be paying a lot less at the pump. There is plenty of oil, we just can't refine it fast enough to meet up with demand.

I talked to the guy that ran my local gas station (Sunoco) he only makes 3 cents a gallon. That is PEANUTS! The high price of gas is not dictated by OPEC they dont want to piss us off as their major consumer. It is the govenrnment (as previously stated) that reaps the benifits of high pump prices. YAY TAXES!

exactly.. how do you think they are going to pay for this war? tax us where ever they can!

thats why we need to ... BOYCOTT!

What about in Canada. We dont' have any huge war to be paying for and our roads are littered with baby pool sized pot holes. where's the money going...

At least you don't live in Europe. A gas tax is an awesome idea. Yea it sucks, but maybe it'll get people to stop driving hummers and shit.

yea but when you buy the gas, where does that 2.30 go? if the 81 cents goes to gov, gas station, and oil companies then where could the 2.30 go?

has anyone thought that the answer isnt in oil

if we push electric cars and shit

it will come

plus it will be cheaper

i'm not saying i'm a tree huger

but i do understand the concept of common sense

i understand that concept, but do you understand the concept of money? electric cars right now cost alot. but anyway electric cars, what do the electric plants produce? harmful waste products considering 90% of the nations energy is from nuclear power plants...but atleast itll be cheaper than gas so electricity is a better choice because it eliminates 1 of the 2 problems that gas faces: high price and pollution

also most electric cars have not been put to the mass production levels as gas

this of course makes them more expensive

compare a roles royce to a toyota

one is made by machines while the other is carefully crafted. If GM, Toyota, Ford, and kia all put electric cars into mass production levels equal to if not more than that of oil cars, the price would soon shrink.

Car companies have currently designed egines that can get mileage of almost 100 mpg, but gas companies will not let them market them and the government too because they wont make any money off gas sales. There is a new law that says that SUV's must get 50 mpg highway by 2011. Also, companies can make engines with materials that will disperse heat easier getting 50 mpg more than what it is already. FIGHT THE POWER

I would like to for the record state that HYdrogen and electirc fuel sound nice, but wait, we burned coal to get the engergy to produce that shit. Hydrogen Cells create more pollution. Again the simple answer is not just cars, it is that we have to rebuild the infastrucutre that we created over the last century, and it ain't gonna happen by boycotting oils. Its people who talk a load going to college, getting educated, rethinking how we do things, and they implementing a solution as opposed to bitching that they pay too much for gas

did you seriously just blame democrats for the fact that gas is over $3 a gallon? what are you retarded? the price of gas has NOTHING to do with the number of oil refineries we have. do you think there are just huge vats of oil sitting around in places but it cant be refined yet and thats why gas is so expensive? yea, you're right there is plenty of gas, experts and scientists saying that we are running out is a hugh myth. its because of people like you that this administration spends about 0 dollars on alternative energy sources. we cant keep ignoring this problem, its isnt going away.

to PAY for the gas....the other 81 cents is the PROFIT they make...read it costs money for things, when you charge more than what it's worth that means profit...

There are bunches of alternative energy soloutions that can be used, but they all consume oil to produce...at least for a bit. Once the ball gets rolling though that problem will be solved, for example, using ethanol to power all the things needed to produce ethanol and the same can be done for many alternative fuels. Personally, electric cars dont solve much like you said, because most power comes from non renewable fuels, but then...whats stopping the production of electric by a renewable source?

this is a load of shit, gas prices arent high because companies or the government are manipulating prices, its because of instability in the middle east and africa (pipelines in nigeria have been taken out and iran is exactly in our good books and iraq is just falling apart),opec is at maximum production capacity, and most importantly the US hasnt built a new refinery in 25 years. its too expensive to ship gasoline from where they have the refineries and there arent even any plans to build refineries in the states. there isnt any conspiracy these taxes that you mentioned have been there for ever and helps to keep roads maintained, paying the guys who drive the plows that keep the roads clear so you can get to the hill and fixing the potholes that they create

its def lower here in MA, but thats cuz cali gas prices are crazy. i payed 2.81 today for regular...50 bucks total, im lucky i dont pay for gas or id so be broke

Nuclear energy is actually the cleanest energy source out there right now. Windmills and solar panels produce more carbon emissions than nuclear plants do right now.

For the most part, nuclear power is a boundless, near infinite source of energy with little to no negative effects on the environment provided operators make smart decisions and maintain the condition of the plant. Nuclear waste is properly stored and sealed off from the environment so it can't do any harm.

The ironic thing is right now most ecologists and environmentalists that lobbied against nuclear power 2 decades ago now realize its advantages and have switched to push for it. It's public fear that is keeing it from being the number one energy source in the world right now, though that will change in the future.

I would be so much more worried about coal/oil/natural gas as an energy source, as they emit more carbon than anything else.

^yeah but the problem with nuclear energy is that you need a huge initial investment to build a new plant. i think that oil prices will need to get even worse before there is large scale acceptance of nuke plants.

im guessing that 2.30 goes to pay expenses to run the refineries and all the things that need money to get oil out of the ground.

Quit blaming Bush...do you kids know that if we rallied behind our president, put some decent guys in congress then we'd get things done. we could blast all the terrorist sissies in iraq, get outta there (taking some oil w/ us)...we could build refineries (which would make our gas prices go waaay down). all you tree huggers that hate Bush are the reason that my resort is closed right now (use permits cost too much for "envirnmental impact" reasons). Sack up and vote Republican. Canada is all jacked up because they are socialist liberals, which is what we'd be if we kept putting dem's in office.

You are the reason the rest of the world hates the american public.

Bush makes me embarrased as an american and should never have become the leader of our country.

What the fuck are you morons talking about. Build more refineries? there are plent of refineries to meet the need.

Oil prices are high because oil companies are smart and our goverment taxes gas. As I have said mutiple times an oil company might make 50 billion a year but our goverment spends 600 billion on defence alone.

Have you talked to any one that has been to Iraq? Basically we fucked up we created a civil war with no clear boundries and we are going to be there for a really really long time. I would be susprised if we get out of iraq by 2015.

I assure you the terrorist are not sissies ther a passionate and devout to their cause and willing to give their lives for it.

What is wrong with canada. They have the best city to live in in the world and are productive in trade and the world economy. They have very low crime rates and maintain a small millitary force which they have never been in major conflict. If that is fucked up mabey we should be more fucked up.

we are going to run out of gas eventually, higher gas price is the only thing that is going to force mass change in energy technologies. Get used to it, because its the future.

Word. Nuclear power is going to be a huge part of our society within our lifetimes.

And Giray, I believe only about 10-20% of american electricity is generated through nuclear plants, if that much. The vast majority of american power comes from fossil fuels, and american power plants alone contribute 10% of global CO2 emissions, meaning more global warming, and less skiing in new england.

^hey dark...when was the last time you had to go to a doctor? why do all of the smart people from canada come to the US? BTW, have we left Germany since WW2 (answer is no, and yes Canada, you can thank us for saving your butt)? Have we left Japan (no, still have bases there)?

If the truth be known, in our microwave mentality, we want instant results. The peace process takes years, not months and it takes a lot of blood sweat and tears (certainly not from hippie protestors, but from our good troops).

Also, thank you Canada for serving with our troops in Afghanistan.

Hey guys! Don't worry Fox News solved it for us!

Apparently it's alright to play the "blame game" as long as you don't blame the president.

Who's the idiot that said Hydrogen fuel cells give out pollution? Did you mean that they do indirectly because they burned coal to get the energy to get hydrogen or the fuel cells themselves?

Hydrogen is a clean fuel. I dont say burning because in a fuel cell it really does not burn. At the present time ~70% of pure refined hydrogen comes from natural gas and crude oil. The other ~30% comes from eletrolisis of water which uses a killo watt per ~10 gallons of hydrogen where a killo watt can produce ~100 gallons of gasoline.

So in that respect hydrogen is not as efficient. On top of that liquid hydrogen stored in a tank is extreamly explosive and highly dangerous.

So in conclustion at the present time gas is safer and more efficient than hydrogen hence no fuel cells.

1) I didnt say the U.S. should adopt socialized health care.

2) I live and was born in Colorado.

3) Smart people from Canada? If you are refering to professors and scientist there is a lot of exciting research going on in Canada. The scientist that do come to America teach in our universities because we have advanced facilities. Which I might add are becoming outdated because lack of goverment funding.

4) Sure we still have a small contengent force of millitary personel in Germany and Japan but these were much different times. Theses were organized armies with goverment backing and united. Once the fighting ended we worked with their goverments. The fighting force in Iraq is not organized and consists of several cells with no clear leader.

6) Our goverment lied to us about Iraq countless times. WMD's, Inspectors, legnth of war, cost of war, UN support, motives, ect.

7) 94% of Americans were for going to war after pearl harbor. 22% of Americans were for war in Iraq after 9-11.

8) The rest of the world hates you and knows more about American foerign policy than you. This is comming from six months living in Budapest and traveling around Europe.

9) When I suggested the US act more like Canada I was refering to foerign policy not Socalized health care/college.

In conclustion Iraq was a mistake. Not going to war with Iraq which might have been unavoiadable but the way our goverment handled itself is outrageous. Bush is the worst president of modern times and embarrasses me as an American.

With out UN support the war in Iraq is out of control and continues to be a burden on our already struggleing economy, leaving us unable to deal with real problems. Korea, Iran (which was our ally on Desert storm I and II which we gave billions to) Is now treating to destroy Israel and the rest of the world.

Partisonism is bring down our country drawing a line between republicans and democrates creates a void in our country. It also forces the senate to vote partison which if there is a majority in the house that matches to the exectuitive branch effectially makes a dictator ship.

Stop thinking republican/democrat and start thinking what is best for our country and the rest of the world.

You are very right, however would you want a neculear plant in your town? Most of America would say no. After chenorable and Three mile island people are hesistant aboutneculear power.

Nuclear power is safe and efficient but the american people are hesitant and only time will change their minds.

Helath care should be socialized. Helathcare cost wll cripple the US economy worse than anything else on the horizon. It is an issue that must be solved, and is more important imho than energy prices. Healthcare cost have been consistenley increasing over 20% for a while. Thats insane

I dont know it is a tricky subject. When I was in europe my friend broke his leg being a dunk bastard, beside the point, but we went to the hospital and waited for about 15 hours at which point they told us we had to go to a hospital across town. Having no car we had to take the bus. Anyway after jumping though about 100 hoops we got him to see a doctor. 2 weeks later he was having surgery in Budapest. When he got back to the US his doctor just about shit a brick he said it was the absolutly worst surgery he had ever seen. It is the the competivive nature of us health care which keeps it the best in the world. Also many jobs include health care which inspirest people to work.

Tricky subject and I feel the answer lies somwhere in between.

Yeah my parents and all my family live in the UK, so I know the downsides buy GM is strapping almost 3000 per car health care, and my dad's helathcare cost rose 50% in 2 years, its crippling small business and still hurting large comapanies. Its so insane that something is going to break, and if they change it, I figure they won't go to some middle ground unortunatley, it will be a large swing one way, But the plan I see as fairly effective would be you get government serivce, then can buy insurance to upgrade to a different hospital. Provide basics services to all, and then use insurance as like and upgrade, so that we still have competition, but also have our bases covered. Britain is moving towards this, and I think Ultimatley any country where law suits ooccure this must happen

Ya I thought about that like different levels of health care. a socialized system for all and a capiltist system for people that want better care.

The only downside I see is that it will create a gap in society between rich and poor people. It could really divide our country and be very bad.

what the fuck are you talking about? WE HAVE REFINERIES. i didn't read anyone else's posts, but if you've said this, then sorry. anyways, the problem isn't refineries, it's the amount of oil we have. the amount we have won't satisfy us now, and sorry, but it never will.

socialist Canada is jacked up? wtf? once you get to college, you can take some economic theory classes and learn that CA operates as a mixed economy just like the US and just like almost all democratized countries. next time take that cock out of your mouth billy.

oh and if you were referring to canada's health care system when you said 'socialist,' don't worry, it's in a lot better shape then people belive it to be.
