The talent pool in summit county

dude when you're that good you dont need to spend money to compete and you dont find people to come film you.....it all comes to you.....if you build it they will come so to speak
 
def not a huge talent on the east coast at stratton there r sooo many sick parks well built, etc sick rails and iv only seen a few crews of guys who actually throw down big on the big jumps and watnot..me not included haha

What about Ryan? He told me he threw down a Screamin' and landed first try, but that's all I've heard or seen out of him. (I hope he doesn't see this thread for a while. HAHA!)
 
look at hugo harrison, doug coombs, pretty sure mike wilson, i am also sure there are plenty of east coust kids who can charge just as hard as anyone else. Either way, west coast kids will always be better at jumping, and east coast kids will always be dirt at rails
 
If I had the camera I would film for anyone who could throw doubles and wasn't sponsored. Because if you are that good then you deserve the sponsorship.
 
I wish people would quit it with this doubleflip claiming, its got to be one of the most annoying parts of skiing. OH I CAN THROW A DOUBLE I SHOULD BE SPONSORED!!!
 
i'm not taking away from russ whatsoever, i'm saying that this double flip claiming is stupid. if "blablabla" is really all that good let there skiing show everyone, stop counting how many doubles they can do and posting it on newschoolers
 
when i started this thread i wasn't tryin tpoclaim 4 any one i was just curios if there are as many good skiers at other resors as there are at keystone...and i mean locals
 
What pisses me off is that the park kids get all of the attention. In my opinion it takes a shit load more work and talent to throw down outside of the park and there are too many good skiers who don't get any attention who slay outside of the groomed jumps. Look how long it takes people like Wiley Miller to get their name out there? Im pretty sure he road for 4frnt for years before he was finally given the recognition he deserves. Its good to see comps like the coldrush to bring these skiers out into the publics eye.

exactly! so many guys can kill it in the BC that will never get sponsored because they dont ride enough of the park. im not rippin on any park rats, but thats just how it is. park riders get more recognition.

Unfortunately, getting sponsored isn't about how good you are, per se, but about how many kids you can make buy a product. And since backcountry skiers are less visible, it follows that they have a harder time getting sponsors. I agree that there should be more comps like coldrush to bring some visibility to that side of the sport.
 
Exactly. Sponsorship isn't based on how good a skier is, its based on how strongly they can show product. Look at Kye Peterson years ago (this is not meant to hate on Kye by any means, he rips). Kye was one of Rossignol's most visible younger skiers. At the time, he wasn't up to the level of the bigger park pros (when he filmed mostly park) such as Tanner Hall, or CR Johnson, but he rode at the bigger competitions and had a lot of influence wherever he went. Therefore most of the skiers at Keystone will not get the recognition some say we deserve, because some of us don't enjoy competing, or want to spend the time filming.

Skiing is a mountain sport and backcountry skiing is the best way to really get into the mountains, which is why I think it should get more attention. Skiing the backcountry is where I really see myself going and I would obviously like to end up being a pro skier like everyone on this site, but unless the sport changes a bit, if you want to get anywhere you have to ski the park a bunch too.

have you ever been to a51? there are plenty of "why am i not sponsored" kids

and that was a pretty lame generalization of pc. they are mad humble and cool out there from what ive seen.
 
there are shitloads of rippers at any mountain with sick terrain. alta, jackon, baker, squaw, whister etc. shitloads of people who are retarded good.
 
It's definitely easier to hike a park or pipe than hike the backcountry. I love the backcountry more than park scene, but the powder isn't always there.
 
the scene in qbc is doo dope all the kids are super nice and humble but throw down soo hard
 
You definitely are. I, on the other hand, am not. Since my arse is black and a lovely shade of blue and purple in some areas.
 
yeah but most of those kids out there are from out east. last time i went to breck i was blown away by the amount of good skiers there. i mean i consider myself one of the better people at my mountain (definitely not best but i mean i can hold my own) and i went there and felt like i should not have even been in freeway hahaha.
 
and just cause you do double flips doesnt mean you should get sponosred, not saying that russ isnt sick casue he is, i was at the stone and he was throwing down..... but what is all the hype about being sponsored any way, were all out there to have fun, not to impress sponsors...right??

Russ (and others) throw it down and deserve to be recognized outside the "Talent Pool of Summit County". (I don't exactly thinks he wants to though. He needs to be since his gear is so haggard. HAHA!)

I think almost everyone wants to be recognized in some kind of way whether is be by pros or local ams. But there are the few who do it for the pure hell of it.

 
It isn't really that they need to be better known, it is also that being a skier is expensive and getting gear for free would be really nice for some of these people.
 
So its all about being sponsored? That seems to be what everyone cares about. Whats being sponsored mean to you? Free gear or money to pay the bills?
 
I'm not impressed by kids chucking down in the park anymore, having gone out in the BC and seeing how different it is, I have mad props for wiley miller and such, and thats where I want my skiing to go.

Just because someone throws it down in the park doesn't mean they don't throw down in the back. Though I never saw Russ in the back. Isn't he from AK though?
