The Summer NS Glacier Park Gathering

The last idea I had for an NS get together fizzled and died. This is my other idea.

As many of you know, Glacier park holds good snow on Logan pass well into July and often times there are patches to be skiied in September. The Avalanche creek campground is located on the west side of the pass, about 10 miles or 30-45 minutes from the pass (closest place to be). The pass usually opens at least by the last week in June ( last year around the 20th), so the ideal time would be the first weekend in July.

The Plan:

Three Day weekend ( This assumes a weekend with either a Friday or a monday tacked on)

Day Before Day 1

Arrive during evening and sleep in campground

Day 1

Get up and shralp all day

Day 2

Repeat day 1, but with new jumps or old ones depending on preferences

Day 3

Taked down camp, shralp, say goodbye and head out

This meetup will fall on its face if it doesn't have a lot of people. So, I want to know who is interested. The dates are Friday, July 6 - Sunday July 8 ( the monday is July 9).

Please post your replies. This has the potential to be really fun.

Although that is a cool place, its too damn far from the flathead valley to warrant travelling there for a 3 day weekend, if I was staying for a week +, then yes. And usually by July, the Beartooths have lost alot of snow, best to go in early/late june imo.

And David, this sounds sick!!! I definately want to make plans to attend this, camping and skiing is the shit. Good idea for sure.

I would be down for this if it was a weekend earlier or later, the 7th I am attending a wedding. We should also organize a beartooth gathering in june.

Yeah, from bozeman, who the majorty of NS kids are from (i think) thats like 6-7 hours. Bear tooths are like 4 hours the other way.

I might make my way up there since I'll be sort of (but not really) in the area this summer. So basically don't count on me.

i am about 4 from beartooths and 3 from glacier so i will be schredding the beartooth before glacier if you want to set up a weekend for ns kids to meet up and shred

word dude... we should all meet at beartooth.. but i will for sure be up at glacier in the end of june and do some skiing...

Four hours is a very short drive for skiing in July. Honestly, when I go up to the pass during the summer, it is four hours round trip from Kalispell.

However, I would be down with doing an additional meet up in the Beartooths, but to be honest I have no idea where to go or what to do as I am very unfamiliar with the area.

We could do two weekends:

one around memorial day in the beartooths coughliftcough

and one in july in glacier. i've never actually been to glacier so the drive would probably be worth it...

dude, beartooth is way better, more secluded, pretty decent park and great steep shit. and its closer and less expensive.

I am going to highly disagree with the following points "beartooth is way better" and "pretty decent park(comparing to hood)". Everything else i agree, but truth be told, i ski park in the summer.

last year beartooth didnt have the greatest park but on years when there is a camp there supporting it they have huge parks

im not hyping; just making a statement based on experience, three years ago the park was amazing. Now I have never been to Hood or Whistler but there were kids at Beartooth saying that the park their was just as good as hood and whistler with better skiing and cheaper prices

i work there and it will be so worth; the drive, any money that might be spent, or anything. i am very down for hitting a feature in GNP.

so can you just go to this "red lodge international" area and buy a lift ticket for the day and ski whatever you want? or is it more rigid, like you have to be part of a camp or something?

you can go and buy a lift ticket but they like you to call them in advance and let you know when you are coming. This is because they cater to many people, racers, jibbers, bumpers, dirtbaggers, etc.... if it is a day when they only think racers are going to be there they will open earlier in the morning and close earlier since the racers like the firm snow, other times when there is a mix of people they will more than likely stay open until the snow is to soft to ski. also it is important to call because they dont keep there site up to date as to when they are open. last year had i not called we would have gone there the day after they closed.

so is this going to fall through the shitter? id really like to ski, and aadding the extra MTer's that would just make my day.

I'm down. Mark me down with me plus 3 guys at least. My friends will go. We should get Evan Tenant to go to and he could write a fatty article bout it!

i know this doesnt correspond with your dates you have but i think i will be up there for a few days with family and shit on june 26 or 27, one of those days i will plan to ski logan pass...... can you even get to logan pass right now?

not yet, hopefully by late late june, i think they have a lot of road construction from the late season flooding, so it will possibly open later than most years

Through some of the gnarliest bushwacking and avie danger you can imagine. I have never tried it, but that doesn't mean it isn't possible.

im down for goin to beartooths forsure i comin from butte so glacier isn't that far. so we should do 2 different trips

I thought he was talking about going up the bottom of the canyon between the Garden Wall and Mt. Oberlin from the road near McDonald creek, in which case it would be gnar. However, the riding bikes thing could work out if camping is permited on the snow, because you can't camp anywhere in Glacier.

Any new news on the snow removal/road construction? I will be down for almost any weekend since there will be no beartooth!
