The story of how I met a great friend through NS

To understand this story, you first need a bit of the background story. About 10 months ago I arrived in Germany (I'm from the States) as an exchange student in South Bavaria. Upon learning where I was going to be living for the next year, which was luckily relatively close the Alps, I turned to NS to find out where, and how, I should go skiing often and as good as possible. After making a thread in the Germany regionals, I eventually got an answer, but just one. This member (S.Ki, give him lots of karmaz!) answered the call of a kid in a foreign land with few friends, and a desire to ski. It's important to know that I expected to ski very little, if at all this year.

After that, this kid Kili told me which pass to buy, where the best places to ski are, which trains to take and so on. After some exchanging some PM's on NS, and a few nights of late night drunk Facebook chatting, he offered to actually go skiing with me. That was when shit got real. I'm not gonna lie, going to meet some dude off the internet was one the weirder things I have experienced, but it turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made. Our first weekend riding together was awesome, and after that it seemed like every weekend I was crashing at his place and going out to rip from opening till close.

What made me happy, was that I could travel halfway across the world, and meet someone with the same love and passion for the sport that I had.

You know you're tight when you can rep this kind of outerwear together...

My message to you Newschoolers, is this. Learn to look past all the bullshit on here. All the memes, hate and random garbage, and you may meet some amazing people. Kili grew from some random guy on the internet, to being one the best friends I have made here, and has impacted my life in a huge way. We have a great thing here on NS, and keep that in mind.

I'm gonna miss this face.

Peace NS, thanks for reading, keep it real, and travel abroad. Maybe you might get as lucky as I did.

wish i would have seen this earlier man, i have been in germany for the past 2 years, and not sure if i meet NS'ers or not. But happy you meet one man. Thats awesome

I met my flatmate/best friend (he needed a place to live, we needed a roommate) through NS. Along with two other best friends.

HOLY SHIT.

Everything about this is so great. I will miss you lil guy. Haha I shed a few tears reading that aswell.Hopefully I'll visit you at Park City one day.

NS united.

Here's a video of Smuffy and me skiing. Smuff is the guy in all white and I'm the one in the Orage jacket, the one in the FD jacket is a girl so appreciate her 5s!

Obviously Smuff is a way better skier than me but because of this skiing with him was always fun.

Thanks to Ian I have had maybe the best season ever. I will miss you as a skiing buddy and more importantly as a very good friend.

Hopefully we will meet again in the near future.

Alles Gute in den USA Ian, viel Spaß beim Studieren und ich schwöre Dir ich werde Dich mal besuchen kommen. Grüß Deine Freunde und Familie von mir und bleib gesund Mann.

Did I read that wrong or did you say that you would be lying if you said you didn't cry?

Regardless, I have met some great friends through NS too all over the world. Is a pretty cool website for that.

This is how NS should be represented! Sweet to hear people on NS can see past all the bull shit and help a guy out.

I've done the same thing with Bentley from former DOS Media. Such a chill guy...

like 5 years ago went down and stayed with him in tahoe for a week and had one of the best weeks of shred ive ever had even with snapping my arm in half at the end of the trip at Alpine.

Super sick when things work out like that.

Any time someone needs a spot in the NW i'm always good for an open couch and a bottle of booze! get at me!

awesome NS bromance is awesome !!

i actually met a canadian dude, Roadrash_Skier, through NS. He was visiting belgium and wanted to go ski in one of our fridges so i arranged it so we could ski together and i could show him and his brother around a bit, it was pretty awesome that NS could do things like this :)

This story is tight man. I've seen your posts on the FB and wondered what the skiing would really be like over in the Alps. Ns is damn sick, and it is really cool when you meet people from the site because most of the time they could be a great friend if you had more time to chill with them. It's also interesting to see the story of how a post about finding places to ski and people to ski with actually came true. I feel like a lot of threads are made where people are trying to find others to ski with, but the thread just dies, or the people probably never even meet up.

Hyeah... I credit this short lapse in manliness to leaving a good friend. However, that was also the point where I realized that my entire year as an exchange student was coming to an end, and I was going to have to say goodbye to all my friends and family. So yeah, I got a little emotional. Whatchya gonna do bout it?

I met my girl through NS. She posted in the WA regionals because she was moving here and was looking for people to hangout/ski with. Replying to her post was the best decision I have ever made. /CHEESY

This is wicked awesome!!

This has kinda happened to me but not to the full extent, I sold a crew neck in summer 10? to Dollyskier67. I don't remember how or why but we started chatting and we ended up skiing together a day at Mt. Snow two winters ago.

Was kinda weird meeting someone from NS, but It seems to happen all the time now and Ive come to realize a lot of the members are just like me except we haven't been introduced.

haha nothing that's cute. Was just wondering if my German was right. And I know exactly how you feel after doing a season in Europe myself, amazing times.

Thats awesome, I've met a couple of people from NS and more might be stopping through. It does help that I live in Utah.

thats so sick. ive met a few kids from maine that on NS that i didnt even know that lived a few towns away from me. this is such a cool thing that happened to you, and made me smile while reading this

Because of a recent PM i got:

If you are coming to south Bavaria/Austria and you want to shred, know something about Skiing in Europe or there's some other shit you want to know, you can always shoot me a PM and hmu. I would be glad if I could help a follow NSer again.

cute bromance! its funny how something so awesome comes from the same place where people say 'pee in her butt' and an overwhelming amount of spiderman memes.

Hope to meet up with some NS'ers this winter because I have no one to ski with haha. If your skiing Stratton or mount snow hmu

Smuffy you went to the same highschool as my cousins go to (last name Jones)... they told me that you were going to Europe to go ski for the year. It's funny how things worked out for ya. I've met some friends from NS at my home mountain because pretty much no one skis (or snowboards) park as enthusiastically from my town compared to people from this site. I skied with them almost every time I went up there.

Haha dude thats so wild! It really is a small world. Let me know next time you're around in WNY and we can shred it

NS is awesome! I have made a lot of good friendships over the years through NS! I can really relate to the OP post! Great thread

Lets spread the NS love!
