The Stoked Thread

Come to think of it I don't believe in that sort of mumbo jumbo, that said.......I did say "ok last run we gotta get our butts over to magic hat" maybe even more than once :0

On top of that I spotted stowebum over at the brewery but I've never met him or even talked at length so I didn't say anything. Besides I didn't want my GF thinking I was a total interwebs nerd. Totally spotted him though, I mean look at that kid, can't be more than one Vermont Yeti roaming around burlington.

jokes, he seems like a cool dude.

hahahaha...3/4 of Burlington is Vermont Yeti. That goes for the chicks, too.

Phil's a college freshman. Freshman don't drink. It's illegal.

No no of course not, although he was the one asking question on the finer details of how much pressure is needed to explode a magic hat keg.

Hey here's a question for ya, how much of a good time is the magic hat mardi gras festival up there? My gf likes to party more than ski and found this to be a great reason to travel back up to burlington in late feb.

remembered why I like to give westjet my business. Had to apply a credit to my flight out west (that they gave me no hassle on last year). Called up, no phone menus, first girl I got to was really helpful and within 3 minutes I had everything taken care of and the credit back on my credit card. try that with air canada

Mardi Gras is a damn good time. It's cold, which means you just have to drink a lot more. Stick around for the night of the 23rd and 24th. I'll be back from Crested Butte the night of the 23rd and Rogge should be moved into my place by then.

Fuck. Neither Rogge nor I will get anything done. We talked about this last night, but now that I'm sober, I'm coming to many realizations. One of which is that the next couple of months are going to be a fantastic blur of awesomeness.

wow.. my Microbi prof yesterday was taking about this same race..

He was explaining on a tangent this race and how him and his buddies would do it during their ubc days.

cool.

Well boys and girls, its WINTER CARNIVAL here at MTU, the only reason i'm still at this hellhole of a school in the UP of Michigan, (besides epic pow). It's basically a summer fest but for winter, giant snow statues, speakers built into snow, strobe lights, alcohol, live bands in different campus buildings. thank god this night has come! i'm about to get ratty, you stay classy ph friends!

Back at school, and it's so nice to see my friends.

Had a great day in the park too, and picked up a few new grabs along with some old as well as dialing in rodeos again. Fun times.

Stoked for a really cool freestyle event put on by Salomon for the groms. if you can call 16 and under groms.. The first stop is this Saturday.. Jib Academy. Salomon sends a few of there pros to shred with the participants and just generally hang out.

There is also an online contest tied into this, I noticed that NS doesn't appear to be particpating with the ratings. the video clips are only a minute long each. Do the kids a favor and rate them.

Totally totally stoked on the possibility of an Apple TV with DVR and HD cable support. Also stoked on the possibility of an Apple branded television display. Imagine how fucking cool a 40" (or more) one of these would look in your living room:

It's all definitely a couple years out, if it happens. But just tell me when and I'm there. And yes, I know I am retarded addicted to Apple, I don't really care.

True....to a point. The ability to record a TV show and seamlessly transfer it to your computer or iPod doesn't exist. Obviously there are other options out there for video rental boxes, and there is blu-ray, and there are sweet LCD tvs.

The idea would be a Apple TV with DVR would be able to replace both your PVR/DVR and Blu-ray player/Netflix-type box (via HD downloads/rentals in iTunes). Plus the fact that you could stream it your your Mac/iPod. And you could use your iPod/iPhone as a wireless remote.

I'll admit the TV itself doesn't make a difference. It would just look pretty.

HAHAHAHAHA

He LOOOOOVED IT ;)

I'm stoked as hell right now jamming away on my bass to rock the casbah...fucking groovy

I spent yesterday meeting the GF's entire massive family, and it actually went really well for a change. I am actually invited back to her parent's house anytime, and was able to have sincere discussion with them (usually not the case). Of course, it doesn't hurt that her mom is a painter and her dad is an architect/photographer, so we actually had things to talk about. And they made beer-battered halibut and steak for dinner, so I will definitely be back! This is a nice contrast to the last set of parents I met, who kindly offered to run me over with a lawn aerator.

Actually hit some larger jumps today, and got some jibbing accomplished despite eating a large taco on a flat down that wasn't as slippery as the day before.

Just watched The Shawshank Redemption, which is the best movie ever. Ever.

yeah i had an ex's step-dad tell me he would unscrew my nuts with a socket wrench if i ever wronged her. (he was a mechanic)

... i was speechless.

took a whole week off work to go to california.

got to ride with sean and lesley. they got to see me break my thumb. then rode with the girl at heavenly on saturday. super fun mountain, would totally go back, has tons of rock and tree jibs.

my life has taken a sudden turn that i did not see coming back in november. earlier today i asked the soon-to-be inlaws if i could steal their daughter. her move up here in a couple months and the big day next summer. they said yes.

I had such a great weekend. And now Valentines Day and Pres Week are approaching, which are money maaaakers, woo!

I'm dreading pres week. But at the same time it's a good week. The money during that week is real good, but the shit I have to deal with is not so much.

I move to Burlington tomorrow... and my roommate is Adam. We're going to be getting high everyday, playing video games, and eating ice cream (joking).

Stoked on the move. Once I'm there, I'm going to only hang out at the birth place of Phish.

Rock on! how long have you been seeing her?

I'm stoked on people who crack high end computer software. Big ups to them!

I had my first day of flight school classes today. Not stoked that the paid vacation is over, but at least I finally have responsibilities...my life feels more meaningful, I suppose.

In other news, I'm still alive.

here's the story (buckle up):

geography has been our biggest problem. im from washington and shes from california. we met at a swim meet when she was 13 and i was 16. we exchanged email addresses and kept meeting up at big travel meets for the next few years. i moved down to california for college and we started dating (she lured me up to her house and seduced me). we ended up splitting up because we were still two hours away and i had no car (i used to ride the amtrack up to her house on the weekends). we dated other people for the next few years and had some extremely awkward meetings with our respective gf/bf in tow.....and yet all the while kept our secret texts/emails going.

this past december she took the big leap and said hey were both single lets make things happen again. things went real quick from there. she came up here for a week. we started talking about how permanent we want to make it. then i just went down there for a week. i asked her parents for permission and they said yes (neverous as fuck walking into a room with them.....inspected their ceiling for a while before i could speak). i called my parents tonight to tell them (only talked to mom cause my dad was night skiing at alpental).

weve known each other for 8 years now. im 24 and shes 22 (two year and one month difference). were not officially engaged. but have explained the situation to both parents and they support it. i plan on selling my kidney and liver to purchase a ring sometime fairly soon, officially ask her when she comes up here in march, and then were thinking about a tahoe wedding next summer (2010). shes finishing up her fifth year in college and it would be a few months before she could move up, but whats a few months after 8 years?

we both swam our whole lives and like snow, lakes, ocean, and any form of water. i really couldn't be happier spending the rest of my life with her. really. shes amazing.

^Fuck yeah Will! So stoked for you.

I'm up at 2am with three classes tomorrow after reading 50+ pages of very tedious stories about race and society, writing 5 pages of personal narratives, and still need to read 70+ pages tomorrow morning and write a short piece on my first racial experiences (um, what? A white male in Montana? Are they joking?). But I'm motivated to do it, and loving these Writing classes. I think I finally found what I was looking for in school, and whether or not I can make it afterwards as a "writer" doesn't matter. I'm stoked on what I'm doing in school for the first time in about a year, and it feels glorious.

Maybe it won't last, but my world is at a tired peace right here. Stoked.

Congrats will!

are you serious about selling organs for a ring though? cause thats kiiiiiinda fucked up :P

Nice!

Stoked that I just ordered everything for my first flash setup, and it should all be here by friday sometime. Now I just need a flash umbrella (you know, for shade) and an outgoing person to help me inconspicuously get fill light on candid shots downtown! Haha....but really, that would be rad.

Pandora just played a song that I had not heard in years, but absolutely LOVED.

Realized I still love the song.

Artist - Strung Out

Song - Too Close to See

I am fairly pumped right now.
