The Stoked Thread

so, my dad and his buddy are in town and got rooms at half a dozen places up and down the Strip... prior to coming out here, they told me i could have their room at the Mirage again, since it's right across the street from the Venetian/Palazzo, where they're staying. last time they were out here- about two months ago- i had their room at the Mirage and it wasn't anything amazing, so i was expecting much of the same... until i was handed a keycard with a top floor room number. needless to say, i was a little startled when i got to my door (or should i say double doors) and the sign said "Penthouse". so, now i'm chillin in bed smokin out of Lele and sippin on OJ in one of four 30th story penthouses at the Mirage all by mahself. the bathroom is twice the size of my bedroom in my apartment... i have a living room with a bar and dining area... there's a pop-up TV at the foot of my bed. add to this that i'm up at the craps table, am having two dinners at Delmonico Steakhouse in three days (first was last night), am going to a couple shows, and *might* go see Perry Farrell tomorrow night if i don't go to TAO. it goes without saying that i'm STOKED!

I don't, I feel like an e-janitor. You should see the deleted threads. We can barely keep up. And then everyone bitches that their thread was deleted.

OMG TEXT VOTING SUCKSS@(*&$#(@&%%(#*&%&((#%*&()#%*%#!!!1111

Jesus.

What's more of a shit show; the Winter X-Games, or Newschoolers.com Ski Gabber for the week after?

I'm pretty stoked after an awesome ski weekend with a bunch of friends. push i finally managed to slide enough rails to dull all the edges on my park skis so now im a buttering machine on and off rails hahah

Winter Storm Watch!!

6-12" forecasted.

It's been a very long time since I skied freshies. Wednesday is going to be a good day out on the mountain.

A bunch of shit went down that finally convinced me to move away from Portland.

So.... I'm moving back to Alaska for a few months!! Fuck yeah!

I'm going to miss Josh the bartender and Josh the trainer like crazy, but I'll be back to visit. I already have a trainer in AK and doctors, and I've got a place to live (not my parents house, haha) and everything. I'm not telling very many people up there except for my close friends (even though I know I'll run in to a bunch of people I know while I'm living there) to avoid drama. I'll be going back to school at UAA for the summer and then probably moving back to the states somewhere. Whatever happens, I need this change really badly, and I'm stoked for it.

hung over as fuck on sunday mornin..

i didn't want to clutter up linds' thread but i wanted to share some hope. In her case the damage was sudden, which isn't great, but from the sounds of it hopefully she'll make a good recovery. The story i've got will just show you how crazy our brains really are. It goes that this guy went to the doctor complaining of a mild weakness in his leg. The doctors gave him a CT and an MRI; here's the picture of his brain:

dws_empty_head.jpg

The ventricles had swelled up and compressed the grey matter against the sides of his head. Despite the lack of a 'normal' brain he lead a normal life albeit with a slightly reduced IQ.

Well done, I totally put that out there.

Anyway, I skied pow for the first time in a couple weeks, and I didn't even notice the ice crust underneath it I was having so much fun. Yay!

I picked up a ND filter today and got to go play around in Gallatin canyon for a while, it was pretty cool. The light was far from ideal for what I was trying to do though, so the pictures turned out kind of shitty. But I was mostly just experimenting and shooting some film I am probably going to ruin anyway, so it was a good learning experience.

10-18 forecasted for tomorrow. So refreshes all day tomorrow, and then Thursday I hit up Pico and get to rip deep untouched powder from the storm since Pico is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Fucking right.

i am so fucking absurdly stoked i got off work to go shred @ Pico tomorrow with Steve-O and company, it's going to be XTREME!

not stoked that's gonna be 6+ hours of driving to get there, but fuck it.

So the girl I am seeing right now is having issues with a professor (married with three kids), who is blatantly hitting on her and has asked for sex. I would find this absolutely hilarious if he didn't have a family, but he does so it's only kind of funny (but still hilarious for me). Anyways, he won't seem to back off apparently, so I am tenatively being commissioned to mess with him through creative means such as mocking love poems (he has written serious ones to her). This has the potential to be really, really fun.

Oh yeah, his youngest daughter is a year older than me. So maybe this is just funny in a morbid, despicable way, but I will take it.

That's awesome for you, mocking people through poetry creates a sort of snobby nerd pride that isn't possible to create any other way.

In other news, I skied 8" of fresh snow after enduring since the 11th with nothing. It was also in an area I've never been before, and this place hadn't been skied forever, which made the day all that more amazing.

I took today off, but all in all, I'd say around 18 inches fell up at Killington/Pico.

Doing dawn patrol up at Pico tomorrow. It should be ridiculous with all untouched snow. Definitely a tree day as well as the winds are a whipping up there tonight. There will likely be deposits in places of close to 3 feet.

Woke up at 2 am to hike Stowe w/Phil around 4:30 am. First tracks. Beat every single person in existence to the top. Turned on my ipod shuffle and the That's It That's All soundtrack kicked in. Props to Phil for front flipping the waterfall. Fucking epic!

The best part was tearing down under the gondola around 7 am. 3 guys were hiking for first tracks and around halfway up the slope we went tearing past them. Those dudes were pissed. Get up earlier if you want first tracks.

Wowww, 4:30 a.m... Karma for that!

Stoked that my turn has finally come; after 3 years of patience, I'm going for an interview at 3 P.M. today, to potentially move from supervisor to more of a manager...not really sure why they're holding an interview, they know what I'm capable of/what I'm like...oh well, will soon find out.

Apparently he's convinced they are in love now, so the situation has gotten a little to real to be funny anymore. The advances are totally unabashed, so I'm not really sure what he's up to--I am somewhat perplexed when it comes to figuring out the psyche of a 50+ year old man trying to pick up his 19-year-old student. So that is a major buzz kill, and I really don't want to have to get involved in this on a serious level.

^ it wasn't THAT bad...the only one that really got me was;

"If you find out one of the employees is drunk, what do you do?".

I'll let you guys guess, then I'll tell you the answer.

P.S. GOOGLE NOT PERMITTED!

Niiiiice.

Me and Ian scored first tracks at Pico this morning by hiking.

Unfortunately the high winds had utterly and completely FUCKED the snow though. I take it that did not happen up north more?

Jesus christ, I remember leaving the bar and heading home, but nothing after. Good lord. I wanted to cry when I woke up. Sucked it up and drove out to the mountain hoping it would subside on the drive. Kinda did, Jack in the Box helped. Good day skiing though, we finally got fresh. Slabs cracking off everywhere in the BC made hiking a bit sketchy, but rewarding.

so "the kingdom" came on netflix.....ya know jamie foxx running around saudi arabia. and then im watching the extras and the director keeps asking questions to his stunt coordinator....and im like "dude dex just shut up hes the stunt coordinator"............dex?

yes, dex from aspen extreme is peter berg whos now a big time movie director? ive been hiding under a rock apparently.

It didn't destroy it, but it definitely took its toll. Upper waterfall had about +10" on it, but under the gondola was mostly windblown. Check the first 3 pics of me tagged on facebook. Those are the upper section. Here's the video of the bottom half. It was all windblown pockets, but well worth it.
I bet it was my buddy Christian who stole first tracks from you at Pico:) He skins before teaching 7th graders.

May have been him we ran into. He had arrived at the same point when we had started skiing down. There were 2 guys. One on teles, and one that had a lockdown heel (may have been alpine touring as well).

Pico was for the most part ruined. There were sections of the mountain that had NO snow on them and you could see grass and rocks. There was some okay snow in places, but overall it was the consistency of cement and very slabbed.

Killington side fared better with the snow not being as beat up. It still was far from pow though and took a lot of work to slay.

No one ever does avy control at Stowe. It's far too steep.

Steve, this summer get a GPS and go hiking where the Long Trail goes around Kmart. When you see any orange tape, go immediately up the hill, and rip the tape down. There are lots of backcountry stashes. The guys who cut them rip down the tape as well. The rule is if you can't find it w/o tape, you shouldn't be back there.
